Chapter 513: Seems Like I’m Wrong
"No..." Wendy’s forehead beaded with cold sweat. She was very uneasy, and her hand was tightly grabbing onto something.
"Wendy... Wendy..." Michael’s voice was anxious yet gentle, as if wanting to give Wendy some reassurance.
The voice by her ear gradually woke Wendy up from the nightmare. She opened her eyes and the orange light by the bed was warm and soothing.
Taking a deep breath, Wendy looked at the room in detail, then looked at Michael’s familiar face before she snapped out of the nightmare.
"Nightmare?" Michael gently wiped the perspiration on Wendy’s forehead and helped her to sit up. Reaching out to take the cup of water at the side table, Michael realized that it was empty. He then poured a cup of warm water for Wendy.
Wendy took the cup and swallowed a big gulp of water. She felt better.
Michael took the cup from her and placed it back onto the side table.
"I’ve been having the same nightmare. This child would be growing bigger, and eventually he’ll grow up looking like Clement in the end," Wendy took a deep breath after she said this.
Michael reached out to hug Wendy, letting her lean her head on his chest and comforting her as he said, "You’re thinking too much, it’s giving you pressure. Don’t overthink, the child is ours. This has nothing to do with anyone else, do you understand?"
Michael lowered his head to kiss Wendy on the forehead.
"Michael, you’re really able to accept this child?" Wendy had already asked this question many times. It would have been really very difficult for her to imagine in the past that Michael would actually be able to accept such a thing.
"Yes." Michael kissed her hand. He said sternly, "Wendy, loosen up. This isn’t as bad as you imagine it to be."
"Michael, what if Jake and this child grow up to be like you and Christian? What do we do?" It was the first time that Wendy was asking him this question.
"You’re really thinking too much." Michael did not know how to react, but he continued, "How could this even be possible? I’m not my father. I will treat the two children the same. I will shower them with love and make sure they grow up in a happy family. They wouldn’t grow up to be like me and Christian."
"Mm." Wendy nodded her head. Although she knew all this and trusted that Michael would keep his word, she was still afraid deep in her heart.
Otherwise, she would not be having nightmares every night.
Michael certainly knew Wendy well. He once again kissed Wendy on the forehead and helped her to lie down. He said, "It’s only past three right now, go back to sleep.
At 10 in the morning, we’ll go for a check-up at the hospital."
Wendy’s health wasn’t in good shape, so she had to see the doctor often.
"Okay." Wendy lay down and Michael tucked her in. Seeing that Wendy had closed her eyes, Michael lay down and stared at the ceiling, his mood a little dull.
He did not wish for Wendy to continue like this. These daily nightmares couldn’t go on. However, he did not know how to help Wendy relieve her stress. Unfortunately, it was only possible for Wendy to walk out of this completely after they knew the outcome of the paternity test.
Hearing that Wendy’s breathing had stabilized, Michael checked that she had fallen asleep before closing his eyes.
...
After waking up in the morning and having breakfast, Zess sent the two children to school while Michael brought Wendy to the hospital for the pre-natal check-up.
Michael was helping Wendy fasten her seatbelt when she said, "You don’t have to personally take me for the check-up, I can go on my own. The baby is only more than a month old. Apart from the nausea, I feel okay. If you’re worried, getting a bodyguard or something to accompany me would be fine too."
Wendy was worried that with Michael keeping her company every day, he would neglect his work.
"Now that you’ve reminded me, I’ll get another helper for you," Michael said. "I should get you a chauffeur too, for your convenience when you go out." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"I can drive, and I don’t need someone to take care of me either," Wendy felt a little exasperated but she smiled a little. "You know it, I don’t like to have too many people at home. It’s enough having Zess around to do the cooking and the chores."
Wendy thought of the time she was pregnant in the past, when she had cooked and did the laundry by herself. She also often stayed up at night to complete her designs when she was eight to nine months pregnant, when she was about to go into labor.
At that time, she was able to handle it all. Now that everything was much better, she was sure she could handle it this time.
"I’ll be worried whenever I’m not at home," Michael said. "How about this, I’ll get you a chauffeur when you go out. As for the helper, if you really don’t like it, I’ll not get one for now. But if there’s a need to, you must tell me, okay?"
"Okay." Wendy nodded. She smiled as she shook her head. She knew there was no point arguing with Michael.
Michael instantly called Mr. York and instructed him, "Find a chauffeur immediately, the kind that is stable and can drive for long periods of time. It’s for Wendy."
Seeing that Michael was diligently arranging everything for her, Wendy could not help but feel the warmth blossoming in her heart. Having a husband who was so caring and thoughtful, Wendy felt really very contented. As she touched her tummy, Wendy’s smile deepened.
She prayed silently in her heart: Baby, you’ll have to be more assertive, you must be Michael’s child.
Michael normally drove fast. But now, he was going much slower. He was afraid of getting into an accident.
Upon reaching the hospital, Michael carefully brought Wendy in. After a series of check-ups, they waited for the doctor to speak to them.
Unexpectedly, Wendy saw a familiar figure. It was Zen Tanner. Zen’s tummy was huge. She was more than seven months along after all.
Zen did not expect to see Wendy here either.
Holding a slip in her hand, her gaze paused on Wendy’s face for a moment, then turned to Wendy’s tummy. Zen wanted to speak with Wendy. But she had just walked two steps when her bodyguard stopped her.
Seeing that, Wendy’s eyes darkened but she did not say anything. Michael studied the two bodyguards and asked coldly, "Christian’s men?"
Seeing Zen nod, Michael’s expression darkened a little.
"Seems like the news online about Christian being a good man and a good father is all fake," Michael laughed mockingly and said, "I thought that you being so dead set on staying by Christian’s side has touched him. Seems like I’m wrong."
...
Zen lowered her head upon hearing Michael’s words. She was ashamed of facing Wendy. Because of Christian, she had betrayed Wendy. If she were Wendy, she’d abhor herself.
Zen’s arms hung straight by her sides, and her fingers grabbed onto the hem of her skirt, fidgeting uneasily.
Michael didn’t say anything wrong. They were right to see her and Christian as a joke.
"You’re pregnant?" Zen looked at Wendy and said this after some time.
Seeing Wendy nod, Zen finally smiled toothily, "Congratulations." Zen’s voice was filled with sorrow. She owed Wendy too much, and she had did her wrong. But the only thing she could do now was to wish her well.
Thinking about her own situation, Zen took a look again at the two bodyguards beside her and lowered her head as she said, "I... I need to go for the check-up.
I’ll make a move."
As she spoke, Zen turned and started to leave.
"This is the place to do the check-up," Wendy spoke out coldly. "Where are you intending to go for the check-up?"
"I..." Zen actually did not know how to face Wendy, that’s why she wanted to leave. With her back facing Wendy, she hesitated, and then turned around once more.
Michael took a look at Wendy’s expression. He actually knew that Wendy had not been able to let go of this friend. He had initiated the conversation with Zen earlier on for Wendy’s sake.
Zen was clearly in a bad place now.
"It’s hard for you guys to meet. Have a good chat," Michael said softly into Wendy’s ear. "I’ll deal with these two bodyguards."
Michael did not wait for Wendy to say anything and strode towards the men watching over Zen. He regarded them with cold eyes and said frostily, "My wife would like to chat for awhile with Ms. Zen, let’s wait by the side."
The bodyguards exchanged glances. They knew who Michael was. Although they were Christian’s men, since Michael had spoken up, they did not dare to raise any objections. After all, Michael was not asking for anything unreasonable.
"Do you need me to call a few more people here?" Michael laughed coldly as he said.
"Do my words bear no weight?"
"No no..." The bodyguards immediately said, "Let’s wait by the side. As long as Mrs. Lucas and Ms. Zen stay within our sight, it’s fine. We hope that Chairman Lucas can understand that we’re just doing our job. ." frёewebηovel.cѳm
Michael did not say anything more but grunted in response.
"Go ahead and chat," Michael whispered to Wendy. "Who knows, you might even obtain some useful information from Zen."
If they could convince Zen to betray Christian, it would be much easier for them to deal with Christian. Of course, it wouldn’t be so easy to convince Zen. Otherwise, she would not have betrayed Wendy for Christian.
However, Zen was not doing well now. It was also good for Wendy to chat with her and understand her current situation.
Wendy actually could not bear to hate Zen. Unfortunately, the men whom they were respectively in love with were just not on the same side.
Wendy didn’t seem to mean much to Zen. After all, their friendship of many years had come to this stage where even chatting was seemingly awkward and a little dreary.
Both Zen and Wendy did not say anything, but they walked towards a corner where they could be alone.
