Chapter 500: What Are You Up To Now?

"Then you will draw while you are bedridden," Christian said in a cold and heartless tone.

"Haha..." Zen could not help but laugh as she heard what he said. And yet, her tears started to flow down to her cheeks as she laughed.

So this was the man whom she loved wholeheartedly for so many years. She knew all along that Christian did not love her in the slightest. He was such a cold, emotionless, and heartless man. Zen started to doubt herself, wondering why she ever fell for him in the first place.

Suddenly, she believed in retribution. She must have been a terrible sinner in her previous life for her to have met with such retribution in this life. freewebnovel.cσ๓

"What if I told you that I’m not going home with you ever again?" Zen just wanted to get as far away as possible from him. In the past, she was so eager to stay by Christian’s side, but no, all she wanted was to keep her distance from him.

"Do you think you have a choice?" snorted Christian. Indeed, she had no choice at all. Even though Christian was far different from how he was in the past, Zen could still not defend herself against him. In Christian’s eyes, she was still the woman under his control at all times.

"Mr. Lucas," the assistant walked into the ward and whispered to Christian. "I met Miss Tanner’s attending doctor just now when I was completing the discharge procedures for her. He does not recommend for Miss Tanner to be discharged in such a weak condition. He even mentioned that she might suffer a miscarriage if we insist."

Zen was a distance away from Christian and even though the assistant’s voice was quite soft, she could roughly hear what he said. Zen was terrified. She was so afraid that Christian would force her to be discharged regardless of the consequences. She had nothing left and she did not care about anything else either. All she cared about now was the child in her tummy and she was willing to do anything to keep the child safe.

"Christian," Zen spoke in a soft tone, trembling with fear. "Please. I’m begging you.

Please don’t discharge me from the hospital. I don’t want to lose this child.

Moreover, this is your child too. You are the one who said that you wanted a baby in the first place. That’s why I am carrying this baby anyways."

The assistant felt sorry for Zen. He could not help but sigh as he wanted to plead to Christian for mercy. "Mr. Lucas, why not-" Before the assistant could finish his words, Christian shot him a fierce glare. He was so terrified that he did not dare to say anything more.

"Christian, if you insist on discharging me from the hospital, I won’t continue living if I lose this child. Then I will draw the fashion design for you in hell!"

Zen spoke desperately when she failed to gain Christian’s mercy. She had no choice but to threaten him with her own life, despite already knowing that Christian did not care about her life at all. However, he still needed her to do the design for him.

Therefore, he would not let her die just yet. Never did she expect that her threats would work.

Christian did not say thing more. He turned around and instantly walked away, his assistant following after him. After watching Christian walk further away from her, she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. All of a sudden, she felt so weak and she collapsed on the bed.

After Christian walked out of the ward, the assistant looked at his expression with caution and asked, "What do we do now, Mr. Lucas?"

"What do we do now?" Christian’s eyes were flickering. He seemed to have something on his mind. After a while, Christian said, "Get me the press." He seemed to have an idea. Since Zen did not wish to be discharged, then she would stay in the hospital.

"Now?" The assistant was confused. "Call the press for a meeting where?"

"Now. To this hospital," said Christian in a cold tone.

The assistant looked at Christian, who stopped all of a sudden without going any further. He was so confused and asked, "Why are we asking the press to come to the hospital?" Christian did not explain further, only giving another glance toward the assistant. "I will get it done right away," he said hurriedly.

...

Before Zen could put her mind at ease, Christian walked into her room again. Zen was so nervous to see him come back, she pulled the blanket tight against herself.

"What do you want from me now?" she asked with fear laced in her voice.

"Since you do not wish to be discharged, you may stay in the hospital to recuperate," Christian’s tone had become so gentle all of a sudden.

"What are you up to now?" Zen was so afraid that her voice trembled as she spoke.

Christian brought some porridge toward her and smiled, "You are unwell, so I made you some porridge. The doctor said that you have to eat something even if you don’t have an appetite. You have to eat something for the sake of the child. I made this porridge especially for you based on the doctor’s recommended recipe."

"What are you talking about?" Zen was more terrified after she saw the porridge Christian brought in for her. She thought that there must be something wrong with it. The sudden change in Christian was a little suspicious to her. How could he become so gentle and considerate all of a sudden? Moreover, he had never cooked porridge for Zen before.

"I know that you blame me for the incident. I blame myself too. I blame myself for not taking good enough care of you and for nearly making you experience a miscarriage."

Christian walked towards Zen and sat beside her. He opened the container and scooped a spoonful of porridge to feed Zen. However, she did not dare to eat any at all.

"Did you put poison in the porridge?" Zen reacted instantly. How could it be possible for a ruthless man like Christian to bring her porridge and even feed her personally?

It was so strange.

Zen pushed Christian away purposely and placed her hands on her tummy to protect the baby. Zen wanted to say something more, but the assistant walked into the ward at the same time. He was holding onto some drawing paper and other art materials. He took a small table from the side and put it on the bed. Then, he placed all the art materials on the table.

Zen’s frown deepened. "Christian, are you really going to force me to draw the fashion design for you while I’m in the hospital?" Zen lowered her head and looked at the drawings. It was the drawings she drew previously. There were even unfinished designs in the pile of materials. "I have already told you that I can’t draw anything for you right now in my current condition, not to mention any artwork that is compatible with Wendy’s," Zen was on the verge of desperation.

"I am only going to say it once, so listen carefully," Christian’s tone had suddenly changed drastically again. In a cold tone, he said, "The press will be coming soon.

We will pretend to be a couple who had a tiff over something previously in front of them. You are so enthusiastic that you insisted on working on your artwork even though you are in the hospital. I am so worried about your health that I don’t let you continue. Therefore, you are angry with me. Understand?"

"What are you talking about?" Zen was confused after listening to what Christian said. What was Christian up to now? "Why is the press coming here?" asked Zen.

"Because I asked them to."

Before Zen could ask in detail after Christian finished his words, she heard noises outside the ward. In the next moment, Christian changed into a different person. He looked so helpless and caring while scooping a spoonful of porridge to feed Zen.

"I know that you blame me. I blame myself too. However, you should not ignore your own health and the child’s safety no matter how much you like designing.

Fortunately, you were rushed to the hospital in time. Otherwise, the child would have been in great danger. Listen to me, Zen. Please stop drawing, okay? Even if you want to continue with your artwork, could you do it after you’ve given birth? You may continue with your artwork after that. I promise that I will not interfere then, okay?"

Christian’s sentences were similar to what he had said previously when he first came into the room. Had he actually been rehearsing how to be affectionate with those words?

...

The reporters barged into the ward soon after with cameras flashing at both of them.

Zen blocked the lights with her hands unconsciously.

Christian put down the bowl of porridge and stood up instantly to intentionally block the lights in front of Zen after noticing what was happening. "This is a hospital. Could you stop taking photos now?"

"Mr. Lucas, is the child in Zen’s tummy yours?"

"Why is Zen being hospitalized? How many months along is the child now?"

"Mr. Lucas, do you like Zen? Zen’s baby bump is already so big, yet you have not declared her identity to the public. Are you trying to protect her or do you refuse to accept the truth?"

"Were you feeding her porridge just now? Do you care about her a lot?"

"Do you care about her or only about the child in her tummy?"

"Mr. Lucas, would you prefer to have a girl or a boy?"

The series of questions struck Christian all at once. Christian frowned and pretended to be a little angry about it.

Christian then stopped the reporters and said, "I am sorry, however Zen nearly suffered from a miscarriage a while ago, so she is unwell. Please don’t disturb her. If you have any questions, you may ask me later. I will try my best to answer them for you."

How could the reporters let go of such a good opportunity for gossip? All of them refused to leave the ward. They still wanted to snap more photos and ask Zen about more details.

"Miss Tanner, the rumors mentioned that you like Mr. Lucas very much. Is the child you’re carrying Mr. Lucas’s flesh and blood? Also, you left DR Group previously and had gone missing for quite some time. Are you resting at home because of the child?" one of the reporters daringly approached Zen to ask her about it.

Zen had not come to her senses yet. Her face was so pale at that moment. She took a glance at Christian and recalled what he said previously. She took a deep breath and snorted, "The child is mine. It has nothing to do with anyone else." This made them sound like a couple bickering with each other out of anger.

Upon hearing her response, Christian placed his hand on her shoulder. "Are you still angry with me?" He said helplessly. "I did it for you and the child’s sake. Look at you!

You still want to continue with your drawing while you are in the hospital. Do you think I am so poor that I can’t feed you and the child? Do you think I need you to work so hard for our survival?"

After hearing what Christian said, the reporters focused their vision on the materials on the small table on the bed. The table was full of design materials.

"Miss Tanner, why are you working so hard at the moment? You are indeed a role model for modern women."

"Miss Tanner is indeed a career woman. You continue to work even when you are pregnant."

"I am sorry, everyone. Zen is unwell now. Could you go outside first? I will accept your interview. You may ask me anything later," Christian knew that he had achieved his goal. Therefore, he instructed his assistant to chase them out of the ward. "Everyone, this way please..." smiled Christian as he looked worriedly at Zen from time to time, "As long as you all don’t disturb Zen from resting. I will treat you to lunch later," Christian said affectionately.

If it wasn’t Zen, who knew what kind of person Christian was, and how he treated her in the first place, she might have fell for his affection again. However, the more she thought about it, the more frightened she felt. What was Christian up to now?

Soon, Christian went out of the ward with the reporters. The ward fell into dead silence again. Zen took a deep breath as she gazed at the door. Zen could clearly hear the conversation going on outside of her room.
