Chapter 399: This Is Your Home

"But why, there’s nothing inconvenient about this..." Mrs. Lucas trailed off when she saw the solemn look on Wendy’s face.

She cleared her throat and looked a little more serious as she reprimanded Michael, "You rascal, you should have called home before coming back during meal time."

"Sorry, Grandma." Michael kept his head low. He did not dare look at Wendy in the eye. He did not know how to face Wendy. If he had known that Wendy was coming back to the mansion, he would not have come back. Because he knew his appearance would dampen Wendy’s spirits. The only thing he could do now was to avoid disrupting Wendy’s life.

Michael nodded towards Mrs. Lucas as he said, "I will come back again in the next few days to visit you. Take care, Grandma." Michael turned to leave.

"Michael!" Looking at his retreating figure, Mrs. Lucas could not help but feel worried and anxious. Michael could usually read between the lines. But this time, he couldn’t understand what Mrs. Lucas’s intentions were when she called him earlier on. Asking him to come home today was because of Wendy. Otherwise, Mrs. Lucas would not have taken the trouble to arrange for them to meet.

However, Michael did not stop after Mrs. Lucas called out to him. He neither wanted nor dared to disrupt Wendy’s life. The guilt he had accumulated over the years had made him the way he was.

With a heavy heart, he walked towards the main door.

Mrs. Lucas was anxious. She stood up and wanted to hold Michael back. But when she looked at Wendy, Wendy had her head lowered and she was eating slowly in silence.

Seeing that Michael was walking further away, Mrs. Lucas could not hold back anymore. She instructed the helpers loudly, "Stop Michael from leaving!" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Instantly, they rushed towards Michael and blocked his path. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Mrs. Lucas hobbled over with her cane. Wendy sighed as she saw the anxious Mrs.

Lucas. She didn’t know what to say. The relationship between her and Michael was complicated. What’s more, it was a crucial period for them. It was not a good time to discuss their relationship issues.

When Mrs. Lucas got to Michael, she turned back to check on Wendy before she pulled Michael aside. They walked a little further so as not to let Wendy hear their conversation. Mrs. Lucas hit Michael with the cane with just enough force to knock some sense into him. She would not bear to whack her precious grandson that hard.

"What do you think you are doing? Can’t you tell I said that on purpose? And you walked out without even turning back. Why? Do you really loathe the sight of Wendy?"

"Grandma, this is between the two of us. Let us settle it ourselves, alright?" Michael said in a low tone with a hint of sorrow.

Mrs. Lucas knew her grandson well. She heaved a sigh and said to Michael. "You really think I want to meddle in your relationship? It’s because you can’t settle it on your own. If you had listened to me and wooed Wendy back, there wouldn’t be so many issues now."

"Grandma, the issue between us is not as simple as you think." Michael said with resignation. "To tell you the truth, I went to Rheinsville City a few days ago to look for Wendy. She already has a new boyfriend and their relationship is going well. I don’t want to come between them anymore."

"New boyfriend?" Although Mrs. Lucas had always been in Lake City, she did hear some news about Wendy in Rheinsville. She said, "Do you mean the guy named Todd Lewis?"

"Yes." Michael nodded.

"Are you silly? Wendy and Todd have known each other for so many years. There was a period of time where they were even working in the same company. If Wendy was really interested in Todd, they would have been an item long ago. You won’t even stand a chance," Mrs. Lucas scoffed.

"Grandma, how do you know about Todd?" Michael was a little taken aback that Mrs.

Lucas had her radar on for him.

"You can’t settle your own issues on your own. So I had to step in to help you keep an eye on things." Mrs. Lucas continued saying, "I have gotten someone to investigate Todd. If Wendy’s new boyfriend is someone else, it is possible that Wendy has moved on. But if it is Todd, I highly doubt so."

"But Grandma, I saw them dating happily with my own eyes. They were laughing and having a good time." Michael felt miserable whenever he thought of Todd and Wendy together. He had no one else to blame this on. He was the one who pushed Wendy away.

"Didn’t Yonina and you laugh over something before too?" Mrs. Lucas questioned.

"What do you mean?" Michael frowned. He did not understand what Mrs. Lucas was driving at.

Mrs. Lucas sighed. "I’m an old lady. But I’m not senile. I can tell that you don’t love Yonina. Initially, when you insisted on having the engagement party with Yonina, I thought it was because you wanted to take responsibility since Yonina is expecting your child. But I realized later that your feelings towards Yonina was neither love nor responsibility. It was friendship. If Yonina has your child and you are forced to separate with Wendy because of that, you would have hated her. But you didn’t.

"It could also be that you slowly became less hateful towards Yonina and fell in love with her. But you are brought up by me. I am clear what kind of person my grandson is. You would not fall for someone else so quickly.

"And I can tell that you still have feelings for Wendy. I wasn’t sure at first. But a few days ago, you called and asked me to visit Yonina in the hospital with Winnie. From that point on, I realized I was right."

"Grandma, you’ve been keeping tabs on me." Michael had to give it to his grandmother for being so perceptive.

"Gossip about you and Christian were all over entertainment tabloids. I don’t even need to investigate in secret." Mrs. Lucas chuckled. "To be honest, although Christian is my grandson as well, he was brought up by Lily. I would never let Lily be Mrs. Lucas as long as I’m still alive. She’s not qualified to be Mrs. Lucas.

"Christian is malicious and he is not a righteous person. If he were not as ambitious, I would acknowledge him as my grandson. But his appetite for fame and power was too much and he even wanted to wreck your relationship with Wendy. He feels too much hate against the Lucas family. I can’t accept him. So, you don’t have to hide things from me. I have my means. I know what’s happening and I will support you."

Mrs. Lucas understood why Michael did not tell her about the issues with Christian and Yonina. He did not want to put Mrs. Lucas on the spot and make her worry. After all, Christian was also Mrs. Lucas’s grandson. Her two grandsons were fighting against each other. How could Mrs. Lucas take such a blow at her age? But little did he know that Mrs. Lucas was actually aware of everything.

"Thank you, Grandma." Michael’s eyes turned red as the tears started to form.

Mrs. Lucas patted Michael’s hand. She heaved a sigh and said, "I have two questions for you. You have to answer me honestly."

"Go ahead." Michael nodded.

"Is Yonina really expecting your child?" Mrs. Lucas asked the first question.

Michael shook his head. "Nope."

Although Mrs. Lucas knew that their relationship was fake, she had been worried that the child was really Michael’s. After all, Michael was indeed framed by Christian.

It would not be surprising if Yonina had gotten pregnant after that night. If the child was out of the equation, it would be easier to handle the rest.

"Second question: Do you sill love Wendy?" Mrs. Lucas needed to hear it from Michal directly.

Michael nodded without any hesitation. "Yes."

"Then that settles it." Mrs. Lucas grabbed Michael by his hand. "Come back in with me."

"But Grandma, while I still love Wendy, it doesn’t mean that she feels the same."

Michael was still not confident on this. "I have hurt her too deeply. If she doesn’t love me or even hates me, I deserve it. I owe her too much. The best thing I can do for the both of us would be to stay out of her life."

"Why are you being such a dork?" Mrs. Lucas got anxious. "After all that I’ve said, you still don’t get it?"

Mrs. Lucas took a deep breath in resignation. She continued, "Let’s put it this way. It doesn’t matter if Wendy and Todd are really in a relationship. They are not married yet, right? Then you woo her back. I am sure you can win her back, yes?"

Michael wanted to reply with a no. He did not have the courage to woo Wendy back.

He did not want to be a huge burden to Wendy by doing so. But when faced with Mrs. Lucas’s angry and frustrated stares, he swallowed his words.

"Don’t say anymore. Today is your best chance. You have to make use of the opportunity. If you miss the chance today and she returns to Rheinsville City, there is nothing more I can do to help." With that, Mrs. Lucas pulled Michael back towards the dining room.

When they got back, Wendy was just sitting there waiting for Mrs. Lucas to come back. She didn’t continue eating as it was awkward for Wendy to be eating alone without Mrs. Lucas.

"Why are you not eating?" Mrs. Lucas returned to her seat and hinted to Michael with her eyes that he should sit next to Wendy. She said, "Michael said he was going back to the office It’s time for lunch anyway. Even if he has some work to do, he still needs to eat. So I pulled him back here. Wendy, you wouldn’t mind, would you?"

Wendy shook her head. "This is your home. It is not for me to decide." In the past when Wendy was still married to Michael, she hardly came back to the mansion.

They only came back a few times in a year as the only person who welcomed Wendy in the mansion was Mrs. Lucas. Moreover, with the current state of affairs, Wendy was like an outsider.

"Wendy, I don’t like it when you say that." Mrs. Lucas put on a stern face. "Can’t you feel how I have been treating you? No matter what your relationship with Michael is, or whether you are still my granddaughter-in-law, you will always be my granddaughter to me. This is your home. I’d be really heartbroken if you drew a line between us again."
