Chapter 385: Are There Any Good Men Left?

After waiting for 15 minutes, Yonina got a message from Christian: [Go find the gynecologist Chuck Young.] He didn’t mention anything else aside from that, not that he needed to as Yonina and Michael immediately knew what he meant. Hence, they requested Dr. Chuck Young to help examine Yonina.

Michael still had to pretend that he hated Yonina’s guts as he knew that Chuck had been paid for by Christian.

"So you’re not only a liar, but also a snitcher?" Michael grabbed Yonina’s arms with a strong force. "Aren’t you simply incredible?"

Yonina pretended to be scared, not saying a word.

Chuck observed Michael and Yonina’s interactions with each other silently for a moment, then he smiled and said, "Come with me, Ms. Collins. I’ll put some stitches on your wound first."

Yonina nodded immediately, yet Michael still refused to let her go.

Chuck said, "Do you want to come in, Mr. Lucas? Or would you prefer to wait here?"

"Go in together? Hell no!" Michael glimpsed at Chuck and let go of Yonina. "I wish her nothing but death!"

Chuck cleaned up the wound on Yonina’s face and put some stitches on it.

After he walked out with Yonina, he said to Michael, "Mr. Lucas, I can’t do other body examinations since Ms. Collins is pregnant, so I need her to stay in the hospital for a while. I think she’s showing some signs of a threatened miscarriage, so you need to take extra precautions if you want to keep this child."

"What? Threatened Miscarriage?"

Unfortunately, Winnie and Mrs. Lucas arrived at the hospital and heard what the doctor said. Winnie screamed, "Why does Yonina have signs of a threatened miscarriage? Did anyone hurt her?"

Winnie strode towards Yonina, held her hands, and looked at her worriedly, "Who hurt you, Yonina? Tell me and I’ll seek justice for you."

"Ms. Quinn, I..." Yonina glanced at Michael timidly, but she refrained from saying anything further.

"What are you so scared of? Tell me who did this to you," Winnie said while glaring at Michael.

She yelled at him, "Didn’t you know that your wife got bullied? How come you didn’t do anything to protect her?"

She raised her hand as she wanted to slap Michael.

Michael grasped Winnie’s hand as he was still pretending to be mad and pushed her away.

"How dare you throw a tantrum in front of me?" Winnie said. "I’ll make it very clear to you, Michael. If something happened to my grandchild, I’d eat you alive, and I wouldn’t give a crap if you’re my son or not."

If it weren’t to trick Christian into believing him and Yonina, Michael didn’t want to drag Winnie into this drama at all.

Before he could say anything in response, a swarm of reporters barged into the hospital and started throwing questions at him.

"Mr. Lucas, what happened between you and Ms. Collins? How did Ms. Collins end up in the hospital?"

"Mr. Lucas, we have sources telling us that it was you who beat Ms. Collins. Is that true?"

"Mr. Lucas, how could you beat Ms. Collins? She’s carrying your child!"

"Was the fight between you two about the bid earlier today? Can you let us know what happened?"

...

Michael didn’t even have to think to realize that it was Christian who tipped the reporters about him and Yonina being at the hospital.

’Seems like Christian is pouring gas on a pit of fire,’ Michael thought.

It was likely that Christian had already won the bid, yet he still had no plan to show any mercy to Michael and was still seizing every opportunity to destroy him.

"Sorry, I’m not answering any of your questions!" Michael yelled at the reporters staring at him.

...

The reporters turned to Mrs. Lucas and Winnie after Michael refused to answer any of their questions.

"Ms. Quinn, why are you in the hospital as well? Is it because you’re feeling sick? Or is it because Ms. Collins is in a dire situation?"

"Ms. Quinn, is Ms. Collins really going to lose her baby? Is that why you came to the hospital with Mrs. Lucas?"

"Mrs. Lucas, Ms. Quinn, would you mind briefing us on the situation? We’ll provide any assistance you need."

...

Obviously, Mrs. Lucas didn’t like to be cornered by all those reporters.

Michael walked to his grandmother’s side and pushed away the reporters standing in front of her. He told the reporters with a threatening voice, "I’ll say this again, we won’t answer any questions related to our privacy! I’ll give you 30 seconds to get the hell out of here. Otherwise, I’ll ask my lawyer to contact each of your companies!"

Michael’s threat worked as the reporters harassing him and his family.

"Fifteen seconds!" Michael yelled while glaring at the reporters.

"Eight seconds!"

"Five seconds!"

The reporters started to leave the hospital as none of them wanted to completely piss off Michael, and as the reporters all left, the hospital became much quieter.

Michael knew that those reporters wouldn’t leave him alone. Instead, they would try to get information from other sources.

Michael was a hotshot entrepreneur in Lake City, and any gossips about him would be the headline of any entertainment news section. Thus, they wouldn’t let this incident slip. Besides, Christian was responsible for spreading all the gossips.

Chuck glanced at Michael after the reporters left and asked him, "Mr. Lucas, do you think it’s necessary to have Ms. Collins hospitalized?"

"Hospitalized for what? It’s not like she’s a newborn baby!" Michael said angrily.

Winnie hit him on his shoulders after hearing what he said. "What the hell were you talking about? Yonina is at risk of getting a miscarriage. How could she not stay in the hospital?"

Winnie then turned to Chuck and said with a smile, "Of course, we’ll have Yonina confined. Could you arrange it, Doctor?"

Chuck kept gazing at Michael as if he was waiting for him to give him the go-ahead.

Mrs. Lucas still hadn’t figured out what exactly was going on, but she was shrewd enough to get that Michael wanted her to pretend to side with Winnie since he asked both of them to come to the hospital.

Mrs. Lucas then said, "I don’t care what kind of fights you two are in, but Yonina is carrying my grandchild. I won’t allow anything to happen to her."

Michael lowered his head and said timidly, "I understand, Grandma."

Then he turned to Chuck and said to him, "Please get a room ready for her."

He then said as he pretended to look fed up, "I have some unfinished work at my company. Got to go now."

Chuck adjusted his glasses as he watched Michael walk out of the hospital.

He then started arranging the papers needed for Yonina’s admission to the hospital.

After he finished all the work, he sent a message to Christian, telling him that everything went smoothly.

What happened at the bidding event went viral in Lake City.

The state of Michael and Yonina’s relationship and the wound on Yonina’s face had both become the headlines of the entertainment news.

As for Yonina, she had been admitted to the hospital, and Winnie chose to stay there with her as she was concerned about her health.

To some extent, there was a silver lining to this incident as Winnie became more and more mentally stable when she was spending time with Yonina.

Winnie truly cared deeply about Yonina, and she had been praying that both Yonina and her baby were safe.

As for Mrs. Lucas, she didn’t stay in the hospital for long as she got tired easily.

However, she didn’t have to be there anyway as long as the reporters saw that she was there.

As for Wendy, she saw the entertainment news headlines popping up on her phone.

...

It was 7 AM in Rheinsville City.

Wendy picked up the phone beside her after her alarm went off.

She remembered that the bidding took place yesterday.

More accurately, it was in the evening in Rheinsville City when it was daytime in Lake City.

So naturally, Wendy wanted to catch up with the news in Lake City after she woke up.

After clicking into one of the news apps, the headline of the economics section was about the bidding that took place in Lake City yesterday.

The title was, "Bidding for Second and Third Tier Cities Held in Central Square".

Wendy clicked onto the news, and the article was about how the bidding went.

However, she couldn’t find any result of the bidding. After all, it would be a couple of days before the result was finalized.

At the end of the article was an online poll, which included 11 companies. Readers could vote for any company that they’d like to see win the bidding.

Of course, an online poll was no indication of how events would unfold. The decision lay on the experts to choose which company was the most suitable.

However, people who didn’t vote in the poll couldn’t see its up-to-date result.

Wendy thought about it for a moment and cast her vote. The page was automatically refreshed, displaying the most updated result of the poll. freewebnσvel.cøm

Michael was leading with 1,100,009 votes. Christian followed closely with 903,252 votes.

The person in third place was far behind Christian as he only had around 300,000 votes, and those who were behind him couldn’t even get six-digit votes.

The result wasn’t unexpected as Michael and Christian had the best chance of winning the bidding.

Although Christian’s DR Group used to be at the brink of bankruptcy, he had people transfer cash into his account, and his company stocks bounced back after the dip.

Some of the stockholders of DR Group counted on Christian’s company to make a profit.

Wendy skimmed through the comments. They were roughly divided by those who supported Michael and those who supported Christian.

Other than the bidding that took place yesterday, there wasn’t anything worth reading in the economy section, so Wendy browsed the entertainment section instead.

To her surprise, the headline of the entertainment section was, "Michael Lucas’ Fiance, Yonina Collins, Admitted to Hospital Due to Threatened Miscarriage".

Wend frowned and clicked onto the article without hesitation after seeing the title.

The article described how Michael and Yonina engaged in a fight in his office yesterday, with the former slapping the latter. It reported that Michael suspected Yonina of leaking confidential information to DR Group.

As for Yonina, she was admitted into the hospital because she was severely injured.

There were a couple of photos in the article as well.

One of them showed the slap mark on Yonina’s face. Another showed how disdainful Michael looked while wrapping his arms around Yonina’s shoulder. Christian was in the third photo, and he had a bruise at the corner of his lips.

There were much more comments in the entertainment section than those in the economy section.

"What the heck? How could Michael hit Yonina? Isn’t Yonina pregnant with Michael’s child?"

"What a horrible person Michael Lucas has become! He had not only abandoned his wife and stolen his brother’s woman, but now slapped his pregnant fiance that hard?

I can’t believe I used to think of this man as a good guy."

"Oh my god! Oh my god! I used to be a fan of Michael too! He used to be so in love with Wendy! What’s going on in the world? Are there any good men left?"

"Stop with all the tantrums, everyone. Are you just conveniently ignoring why Michael hit Yonina? I always feel that there’s something sus about her, and I reckon that she might’ve done it on purpose."
