Chapter 263: Wait For Me To Come Back
The flight from Lake City to Rheinsville City was a long one of about ten hours.
Wendy sat alone in the window seat and watched the plane fly higher and higher. ƒreewebɳovel.com
The Lake City beneath her feet was getting farther and farther away, and her mood, too, was getting lower and lower.
Subconsciously, Wendy took out her cell phone.
On the screen of the phone, there was a picture of her and Jake together with Leah.
This photo was taken in Rheinsville City at the time.
Michael said he was going to take them to get a family portrait taken together, and at that time, Wendy was thinking that after the family portrait came out, her phone screen saver would have to be changed to a different photo.
But unfortunately, it was not possible to change it at the moment.
Wendy’s finger slipped over Leah and Jake’s little smiling faces, but her eyes were a little sore.
This time, she was going to HG as a favor she owed.
She also thought about whether to take the two children with her.
Obviously, taking Leah and Jake with her to Rheinsville City wasn’t a good choice.
Wendy will be busy and definitely wouldn’t have time to take care of them.
She secretly thought in her mind that she had to get the project on track quickly so she could come back sooner.
Wendy gently kissed the phone screen as it moved to her lips.
Afterwards, she opened the phone screen and flipped out the photo album.
Inside, there were pictures of Michael.
Wendy’s finger rubbed the photo bit by bit as she softly murmured, "Wait for me to come back."
The long flight was finally over, and as soon as she got off the plane, Wendy ended the flight mode.
Immediately, several text messages came in on her phone.
Zen sent her one saying everything was fine.
And Michael texted to call when she arrived.
Seeing Michael’s text message, Wendy smiled.
She immediately dialed Michael’s phone number.
The call was quickly answered, and Michael seemed to be waiting on the other end of the line.
"I’m already here." Wendy said in as relaxed a tone as possible so as not to worry Michael, "It should be getting dark in your area."
There was a time difference between Rheinsville City and Lake City, and it was morning in Rheinsville City.
It must be night in Lake City.
"Did it go well?" Michael held the phone tightly and wanted to hear more of Wendy’s voice.
"Mommy, Mommy ..." When Leah and Jake heard Michael answer the phone, they immediately ran over and both reached out to pick up Michael.
Michael just said a word to Wendy before the phone was grabbed by the two children.
Michael was helpless, but couldn’t grab it back, so he went over and said, "Put her on speaker."
Leah immediately pressed the speakerphone with her little finger and said in a choked voice, "Mommy, are you in Rheinsville City yet?"
"Mommy’s here. Are you crying again?" Wendy heard Leah’s voice and it became a little sad.
"No no ..." Leah did not want Wendy to worry and immediately smiled and said, "Lynn is not crying, Lynn is just, just a little missing you ..."
Eventually crying again, she immediately handed the phone to Jake and said to him, "Jake, you talk to mommy for a while. I’ll talk to mommy later."
Leah had promised Wendy to behave and not cry. Now she was crying again, she felt she was so useless that she couldn’t dare to face her mommy.
Jake reached for Leah and said, "Mommy just got off the plane and should still be at the airport, so if you don’t talk to Mommy some more, she’ll have to go back before she can talk to you on the phone."
"Then I’ll talk to Mommy more." Leah immediately reached out and wiped her tears,
then cried and laughed as she called out to Wendy, "Mommy, you have to take care of yourself over there alone. Lynn will be good."
"Lynn is so well-behaved." Wendy had just finished speaking when a phone call came in.
Wendy was dragging her suitcase with one hand and holding her cell phone in the other.
She looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Todd calling.
She put the phone to her ear and said to Leah, "Mr. Todd is calling. Mommy has to hang up now. I’ll call you tonight when I get back, okay?"
"Okay mommy, bye." Leah sniffled and tried not to cry.
However, the moment the phone hung up, she cried again.
Michael was so distressed by her crying that he reached out and hugged her and said, "Daddy will tell you a story, okay? What story does Lynn want to hear?
...
Wendy picked up Todd’s phone call.
"Caroline, you’re off the plane." Since Wendy was on the phone, she must have arrived, and Todd said, "Mentor and I are waiting for you at the exit."
"Mentor’s here, too?" Wendy knew Todd was coming to pick her up today, but she didn’t expect Timothy to come too.
However, it made sense.
After all, this time, it was Timothy who had asked her back over and over again.
"Caroline ..." Todd had already seen Wendy and waved at her with his phone.
When Wendy saw this, she hung up the phone and walked over in stride.
Todd reached for Wendy’s suitcase and said, "Let me help you carry it."
Wendy’s memory of Todd was only from the days after the accident, so she was a little shy and said, "No, I’ll do it myself."
"What’s the point of being polite to me?" Todd took Wendy’s suitcase and said, "I’ll take you home first and then take you to eat."
"Don’t bother, I’ll just eat something on my own." Wendy was a bit nervous.
"That won’t work. This meal is Mentor’s welcome meal for you. You can’t let Mentor down." Todd smiled and looked at Timothy and said.
"Yes, you have to honor Mentor at this meal today, anyway, it’s also an apology from Mentor to you." Timothy knew how much trouble this matter had caused her. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Even now, he felt quite guilty in his heart.
"You are too kind." Wendy followed Todd towards the airport and shook her head with a smile on her face to say, "You are not at fault for this matter. I don’t blame you."
"No matter what, the meal still needs to be eaten. If you feel too tired from the flight, then it’s okay for you to go back and rest for the day. I’ll drive to pick you up for dinner tonight." Timothy said.
"I ..." Wendy saw that she couldn’t refuse, so she nodded her head and agreed, "Okay, thanks to Mentor then."
The place where Wendy originally lived was a fancy apartment.
Todd took out the key, opened the door, put the suitcase inside and said, "I don’t know how much memory you have recovered. Do you still have any memory of this place?"
When Wendy stepped into the place, there was indeed a sense of familiarity. But the memory was not very clear.
On a hunch, she went into the master bedroom and asked, "Is this the room I was in before?"
"Yes." Todd said, "We sent someone to clean the apartment yesterday, so you can stay at ease. If you need anything, you can call me anytime. I don’t live far from you and it’s just a few minutes away by car."
Wendy nodded her head and politely said thank you.
"No need to be so polite with me." Todd was not used to Wendy acting like this, so he patted her on the shoulder and said, "We used to be good friends, so even if you can’t remember the past, you can’t be so formal with me. We have a lot of work to do together next."
"Okay." Wendy nodded her head slightly.
