Chapter 226: Not Allowed To Step Out Of The Mansion
"I don’t care how you think about this. You are responsible for today’s matter."
Michael said coldly. "Apologize to Wendy!"
"Apologize?" Winnie thought she heard the biggest joke of the day. Suddenly, Winnie started laughing hysterically and crying at the same time. She turned around and picked up the phone she threw aside earlier on. Shoving it into Michael’s hands, she shouted, "there is no way I will apologize. Didn’t you want to call the police? Go ahead. Send your mother into prison with your own hands."
Michael looked at Winnie’s red eyes and her current emotional state. He raised his hand and rubbed the space between his brows. "Mother, what have you become? Why are you like that?"
"I said, call the police!" Winnie raised her hand and smacked onto Michael.
"If you don’t apologize for what you have done today, I will really call the police." Michael said with a serious tone. Her act had already exceeded Michael’s tolerance level and it was not the first time Winnie was making things difficult for Wendy. With her current state of mind, it would not be surprising if Winnie escalated further.
Wendy looked at Michael and saw how he reacted when Winnie shoved the phone to him.
She felt that his threat this time was for real.
Earlier, Michael was just trying to scare Winnie. But this time, he would really call the police. She stood up and walked over to Michael, "Don’t call the police."
"Wendy, after how my mother treated you, you are still defending her?" Michael knew that Wendy was stopping him from making the call because of him. But her thoughtfulness heightened the guilt within Michael.
"Stop your pretentious act. I don’t need your pity!" Winnie pushed Wendy aside. "I resign to fate if I really got sent to prison by my own son."
Wendy took two steps back as she lost her footing with the push. Michael reacted and reached his arm behind Wendy, holding on to her by her shoulders.
Winnie loathed at the sight of the couple.
"Mother! You really think I wouldn’t call the police?" Winnie’s action triggered Michael’s frustration once again.
Seeing that Michael really did call the police, Wendy immediately reached over and pressed the hang-up button to end the call. Wendy shook her head at Michael, "You can’t call the police."
"Wendy..." Michael wanted to reason with Wendy.
"This matter cannot be let known to the public. Once you call the police, there is no way to mellow it down. You are a popular figure in Lake City. If the news about you sending your own mother to prison gets out, it will affect you as well as any future business collaborations. Your image will be ruined if others start thinking that you are heartless enough to even send your own mother to prison, what else towards business partners? Once that image anchors in the industry, you will lose a lot of potential clients." Wendy looked at Michael and analyzed objectively. "And, she is your mother. I know you will feel worse than me."
If he had really called the police, he would have to be the ’unfilial son’ in the public’s brutal gossips. At times like these, it was unfortunate that not every wrong could be made right.
There were many factors to be considered as well. Michael just wanted to uphold justice for Wendy but Wendy had to analyze and think about the consequences of righting the wrong, especially when anger got ahead of Michael.
She snatched the phone from Michael and held it in her hand. She did not say anything after.
Michael shut his eyes and clenched his fists.
After a long silence, he opened his eyes and ordered the bodyguards, "Send my mother back to the mansion. Without my permission, she is not allowed to step out of the mansion at all."
"Michael!" Winnie could not believe what she just heard. "You are imprisoning me?"
"This is the lightest punishment for you." Michael said coldly. "Send her back!"
The bodyguards heard Michael’s instructions and moved towards Winnie to escort her back to the mansion. Winnie struggled vigorously. Given her status, the bodyguards did not dare to oppress her further so as to avoid injuring her.
Michael retorted, "Just do as I said. No matter what you have to do to get her back to the mansion, I don’t care. As long as she gets back there."
With Michael’s words, the bodyguards did what they had to do.
At this point, Winnie knew that there was no further room for negotiation. The good thing was that Michael did not call the police in the end, though she did shout at Michael to call the police just to spike him. If she really got thrown into prison and words spread, Winnie would the laughing stock and Lily would be the first to ridicule her. But of course, she would not end the day just like that.
Winnie let out a cold laugh and said to Wendy, "Wendy, I actually pity you for living in the fairy tale you and Michael had recreated. Are you really unable to remember the past or you are just not willing to? 1601 Cumulus Street, Building 1, Apartment 5. If you want to find your memories back, go have a look."
Cumulus Street... This address sounded so familiar to Wendy.
"What do you mean?" Wendy asked.
Just as Winnie was about to reply, Michael said, "Take her away."
Winnie merely looked at Wendy and gave a laugh as she was brought away. After Winnie was out of the room, Wendy waved off the men who abducted her. They quickly got up and scrambled out of the door. freewebnøvel.com
The room was peaceful once more. The Cumulus Street address kept hovering in Wendy’s mind. She could not hold back anymore and asked Michael, "Where is that place?"
Actually, Wendy already had a hunch where that place could be. Winnie mentioned to her before that the place she was staying at now was not the same place as before. And according to Winnie, the previous place was humbler than the current. freewebnovel.cσ๓
This added on to show that their relationship was not good in the past.
"Wendy..." Michael did not know how to break the truth to Wendy. He had kept it from Wendy for so long as he did not want Wendy to find out about the past. But now, Michael could not hide it any further. He lowered his head and said with guilt, "That is where we used to stay."
"Just as I thought..." Wendy was not surprised to hear the reply from Michael.
Michael did not know what else to say. After a long break, he said in a low voice, "I’m sorry, Wendy."
Wendy did not know how to face Michael either. It had been an emotional roller coaster for her. It was true that she wronged Michael in the beginning because of Winnie. But even without Winnie, the problems between them already existed.
Wendy looked at Michael who was solemn. She raised her hand, wanting to give some pats on his shoulder to comfort him. Her hand hovered above his shoulder but did not land. She let out a sigh and remained silent after.
Michael thought Wendy would not give up on this opportunity to probe further but unexpectedly, she did not say a word. He raised his head and he felt more guilty than before when he looked at Wendy. Maybe, he should not selfishly prevent Wendy from getting her memories back. She had the right to know what happened in the past.
He took a deep breath and said in a serious tone, "Wendy, if you want to go to the address to have a look, I can accompany you there."
