Chapter 216: Let’s Divorce Then

Wendy slowly shook her head when she thought about that possibility. "No wonder I kept running into that man. I thought he was some pervert. But he was actually sent by you," she said. "Michael Lucas, what do you want? You want a divorce but also want to maintain your image as a devoted and passionate man? So you arranged to have such photographs taken and when they are made public, everyone will think that I was the unfaithful one. Not only would your persona stay intact, but you’d also get sympathy. Am I right?"

Michael found Wendy’s outburst more and more absurd.

Over the past two or three days, Wendy’s misunderstanding of him has deepened too much, so deep that Michael could not explain himself.

Because no matter what he said, Wendy no longer believed him.

Her mind was already made up. He was good to her because of the persona he wanted to maintain, and he really did have a relationship with Yonina Collins.

When Wendy saw the way Michael remained silent and kept his head down, she felt more certain that her assumptions were right.

She picked up the stack of photographs and flung them at Michael. "If that’s the case, then let’s divorce!" she shouted. "I don’t remember you anyway. And you’ve had to go against your conscience to treat me so well for these two months."

Michael heard the word "divorce" from Wendy’s lips, and he was a little confused.

"No way!" Michael rejected immediately. "I will not agree to a divorce. Don’t you even think about it!"

"Are you afraid that it’ll damage your persona and cause your company’s shares to plunge?" Wendy thought of how she had helped him sign that deal despite her eyes and felt like a fool.

"I have already told you, that’s not true." Michael was never good at explaining things. Faced with Wendy right now, he felt even more helpless than usual.

"Let’s get a divorce. Don’t worry, I won’t fight for your money." Wendy took a deep breath and tilted her head up. She would not allow herself to be looked down on. "But the children are mine. Don’t even think about fighting with me."

"Mommy..." Leah and Jake had just returned home. Leah arrived with a smile on her face, but the moment she heard Wendy talk about divorce, her smile froze.

She ran to Wendy immediately and pulled Wendy’s sleeve. "Mommy, what did you just say? Why must you get a divorce?"

Leah had just found her father and had a complete family. She did not want her parents to divorce.

"Leah, Jake, what do you think of us leaving this place together?" No matter how angry Wendy was, she forced herself to smile in front of the two children.

Leah shook her head vigorously, as if shaking any slower would cause them to divorce. "No, I don’t want you to divorce," Leah said. "I want Daddy and Mommy and Jake, for all four of us to be together forever."

Then Leah started to cry.

Michael’s heart broke when he saw Leah’s tears.

He held her in his arms and comforted her, "Don’t worry. Daddy and Mommy are not getting a divorce."

Wendy also did not want to continue this topic in front of the children.

Jake was a lot smarter than Leah and knew that things had become rather complicated now.

He saw Wendy holding her car key and went to hold her hand. "Mommy," he said, "I want to eat your roast chicken. Could you make it for me?"

Wendy rubbed Jake’s little head, glanced at Michael, and nodded silently.

Wendy put down her car key and took a deep breath. Then she turned around and walked into the kitchen.

Zess looked at the situation and quickly followed, saying with a smile, "Wendy, let me give you a hand."

In the living room, Leah continued to cry.

She was afraid that her daddy and mommy were really going to divorce.

Michael was flustered. He did not know how to comfort Leah. He could only keep trying to pacify her, assuring her that Daddy and Mommy were not getting divorced.

In the kitchen, Zess kept glancing at Wendy’s face.

She could tell that Wendy was really very furious. But Zess still asked boldly, "Wendy, what happened between you and Mr. Lucas?"

"Nothing," Wendy replied. She did not want to talk about it.

"Actually..." Zess bit her lips, wondering how best to persuade Wendy. "Mr. Lucas has been very good to you all this time. If you have any small disagreements, you should thrash it out and resolve them. See how big your children are now. Wouldn’t it be nice to live in harmony as a family like you used to?"

Wendy stopped washing at the sink for a while.

Jake entered the kitchen and smiled at Zess and said to her, "Zess, could you go and play with my sister? I’ll help Mommy."

Zess looked from Wendy to Jake and then sighed before walking out. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Mommy, let me help you." Jake was still too short. His fully extended arm barely reached the things on the kitchen counter.

He turned around to bring the little stool over. He stood on the stool and helped Wendy wash the vegetables.

"You should go and play too. I don’t need your help." Wendy looked at Jake and leaned over to carry him off the stool.

She could guess why Jake had come in and why he had asked Zess to leave.

Her son was mature beyond his years, but it still was not right for her to mention divorce in front of her children.

Leah had always yearned for a father. Though Jake did not say anything, he had also been happy over the past two months.

"Mommy...," Jake muttered as he was lifted off the stool.

He ran over to the kitchen door and shut it.

Wendy became a little confused when Jake shut the kitchen door.

"Mommy, I want to have a chat with you."

Wendy saw the seriousness on Jake’s face, and her hands slowed down. "What do you want to talk about?" she asked

"About you and Daddy." In all seriousness, Jake asked, "Why did you and Daddy argue today? Can you tell me what happened?"

"Those are adult matters. You won’t understand." Wendy tried her best to control her emotions and remain calm. She did not want to affect her son.

"Well, let me tell you something then," Jake said. "When you met with that accident,

it was because the brakes were not working. In order to save you, to reduce your impact as much as possible, Daddy let you crash into his car.

"Unfortunately, just as your car was about to stop, a huge truck crashed into you.

"I also lost my consciousness, but my injuries were light. But you almost lost your life. When you finally woke up, you had lost your sight and memory."

Wendy lowered her eyes after hearing what Jake had told her.

She no longer knew if she should believe Michael, but she naturally believed her son.

Jake continued, "That car accident was no accident. Someone had set it up on purpose."

"It was a set-up?" Wendy frowned.

Until now, nobody had mentioned that car accident to her.

After Wendy was discharged, she had been busy with the designs and she had been out shopping with Winnie these past few days. Wendy had been unable to recall the past, and nobody brought it up, so she also did not think of finding out more about it.

Jake nodded his little head and said, "It was set up by Yvonne Taylor."
