Chapter 214: Don’t Get Too Close To My Mother
[To the above commenters, why are all of you so naive? All of you must be women.
Let me tell you, Michael Lucas is just selling this as his persona. Don’t you know that Michael Lucas and Collins Group’s daughter were supposed to be betrothed? There was even news that their wedding date was approaching. If Wendy Stewart hadn’t returned, Michael Lucas would have married Collins Group’s daughter.]
[But Michael Lucas did not marry Mr. Collins’ daughter in the end. Isn’t that because he still loves his ex-wife? Also, Wendy Stewart had disappeared for five years. After so long, it isn’t unreasonable for Michael Lucas to marry another woman.]
[All of you are so naive. Do you know how many new fans Michael Lucas managed to win from his persona as a devoted and passionate man?
[MC Enterprise has been depending on Michael Lucas’s persona to improve their corporate image and their share prices have been rising over the years.
[Also, donating all that money in his wife’s name is also part of his image, isn’t it? I have to say that Michael Lucas has been very successful in creating his persona.
[Except that Michael Lucas did not think that Wendy Stewart would come back alive.
[I bet his original plan was to create this nice persona and then announce his remarriage and form a strong alliance with Collins Group.
[Unfortunately, not only was Wendy Stewart still alive, but she also returned. If Michael Stewart does not win her back and live with her, then the image he had created would go down the drain.
[Michael Lucas is a man of high social standing. Someone like him would definitely place his company’s profits and his own image first.
[All the love and passion were all created to fool all of you young girls.] ...
Winnie sat across from Wendy and was studying Wendy’s expression very carefully.
A smile flickered across Winnie’s eyes as she watched Wendy’s face gradually lose color.
She could guess what was on Wendy’s mind.
The comments on Michael’s Twitter were posted by someone Winnie had hired.
She did that for Wendy to read them.
If not, why would Winnie have brought up Michael’s Twitter?
Wendy’s hand that was holding her cell phone was shaking slightly.
She took a deep breath to try to calm herself down.
Was Michael so good to her purely for his company’s profit and his own image?
Was everything he did a show for others to see?
Wendy looked back on the past two months she had spent with Michael. She recalled all the little details.
She did not want to believe that Michael had an ulterior motive for being so nice to her. But, if there were no ulterior motive, why would Michael be so reluctant to tell her about their past?
Whenever Wendy brought it up, Michael would always avoid talking about it or not give her straight answers.
Was he afraid that she would regain her memory?
And Wendy also knew that she had spent five years in Rheinsville City, but could not remember what had happened there. But she knew that she must have been extremely disappointed in Michael and even hated him.
So why did she return to Lake City again after five years?
The answer was obvious: revenge.
Images from last night’s dream appeared in Wendy’s mind...
"Wendy? Wendy?" Winnie called her several times. Getting no response, Winnie tapped Wendy.
Then Wendy jolted back and said "um" reflexively.
Winnie smiled and said, "Stop thinking about these things. Come on, go shopping with me. I said that I want to buy you a present today. You must choose a few nice clothes and accessories or something."
Wendy was no longer in the mood to shop anymore, but it would be inappropriate for her to leave now.
Thus, she could only nod, get up from her seat, and enter the shopping mall with Winnie.
Wendy was feeling depressed while Winnie was overjoyed.
Winnie was really generous and bought a few outfits for Wendy.
After their shopping trip, Wendy went home with a few shopping bags. She was surprised to find Michael already waiting at home.
Before reaching home, Wendy’s heart was already heavy. When she saw Michael,
her heart started to panic.
She entered the house and placed her shopping bags and car key on the table.
"Why are you home so early?" Wendy asked. She sat on the sofa and looked up at Michael.
Wendy was trying her utmost best to control her emotions, but her voice still came out cold and distant.
"I told you I have something I want to talk to you about today," Michael replied. He poured a glass of water and held it in front of Wendy.
She accepted it with a flat thank you.
She drank some water and placed the glass on the table. "What do you want to talk about?" she asked.
"I’ve cut some fruits," Zess said, holding a plate of fruits as she walked out of the kitchen. She placed it on the table. "Mr. Lucas, Wendy, please have some."
Michael looked at Zess and reminded her, "Zess, it’s time for you to pick up Jake and Leah from school."
Zess looked at the time. It was still too early to pick up the children. But Zess was not dense. Her eyes looked from Michael to Wendy, and then she smiled and nodded. "Alright, I’ll go now."
Zess walked away. Wendy watched her, and her eyes looked down slightly.
She could tell that Michael had deliberately made Zess leave them alone. That meant what he wanted to talk about must be something important. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Could he be showing his cards to Wendy now?
Wendy took a deep breath, panicking a little.
She reached for a piece of fruit and put it in her mouth, trying to keep her emotions in check.
Michael sat down across from Wendy. "Who did you go out with today?" he asked.
Wendy swallowed the piece of fruit in her mouth, looked up at him, and was silent for a while before answering, "I went out on my own."
Winnie had said that Michael had instructed her not to tell Wendy about the past.
If Wendy told Michael that she had gone out with Winnie, she was afraid that Michael’s relationship with his mother would worsen.
Actually, Wendy could also tell that Winnie had told her all those things on purpose. But she had promised Winnie not to let Michael know.
Since Wendy had promised, she would keep her word. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Were you out with my mother?" Michael saw Wendy’s reluctance in being frank and had no choice but to get to the point.
Wendy was surprised that Michael knew. Her first reaction was that Michael was investigating her.
Wendy furrowed her eyebrows and asked indignantly, "Did you send someone to follow me? Are you investigating me? Do you not trust me? Or you’re just faking your kindness to me?"
"Wendy..." Michael closed his eyes at Wendy’s reaction. He felt a little helpless and said, "Don’t get too close to my mother. She..."
"She will tell me about our past, right?" Wendy suddenly let out a sardonic laugh.
"Michael," she asked, "Is Yvonne Taylor really merely a sister to you?"
"Didn’t I explain this to you already? Yvonne Taylor will never appear in our lives again. You don’t have to worry about her or be suspicious of her."
Michael could not tell Wendy that Yvonne was dead.
Wendy had yet to recover all her memory. If he told her that he had killed Yvonne, he was scared of how Wendy would think of him. And even if he did tell her, she would not believe him either.
Michael also did not wish for Wendy to think of him as a murderer.
