Chapter 212: Just Like His Father
Wendy had also received an envelope at the same time.
Someone had rung the doorbell, but when Wendy answered the door, she found just the envelope lying on the floor.
She picked it up. Out of curiosity, she opened it.
Inside was a stack of photographs.
Wendy could recognize the man in the photographs as Michael immediately, but she did not recognize the woman.
Perhaps she did know who that woman was but had forgotten.
The photographs were all of Michael with the same woman.
Looking at the photographs, Michael did not seem too intimate with that woman. They were simply photographs of them having a meal together.
Wendy looked outside and did not see anyone.
She frowned. She did not know why someone would leave these photographs at her door.
Wendy’s first hunch was that Yvonne Taylor was the woman in the photographs.
Until now, Yvonne Taylor was the only woman Wendy had been able to recall.
However, Wendy could not recall how Yvonne Taylor looked like.
Wendy tried very hard to remember only to discover that she simply could not recall anything.
Winnie had mentioned that Michael used to have a lover. Wendy was not sure if that lover was Yvonne Taylor or not.
Wendy was also not sure if the woman in the photographs was Yvonne Taylor or not.
Wendy’s cell phone rang, interrupting her thoughts.
She went back inside and picked up her cell phone from the sofa. It was from Winnie.
Wendy answered the call and immediately heard Winnie’s voice. "Wendy, shall we go shopping? I saw the latest fall collection. Let’s go look at them."
"I..." Wendy looked at the photographs in her hand. She was really not in the mood for shopping.
"Come with me. I haven’t given you any presents yet. I’ll give you whatever you fancy today."
Clutching on to the photographs, Wendy suddenly thought maybe she could ask Winnie. freewebnovel.cσ๓
"Alright."
Wendy hung up and went to change into a skirt, applied simple make-up, grabbed her car keys, and left the house.
She had just gotten into her car when she received a call from Michael.
Wendy pursed her lips. She hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Wendy, are you at home now?" Michael thought that it might be better for him to talk directly to Wendy.
Hence, he intended to go home.
"I am on my way out," Wendy said. There was no joy nor anger in her voice. "What’s the matter?"
Wendy was sure that Michael would not tell her the truth.
He had been avoiding all her questions about their past.
When Wendy asked Michael about Yvonne Taylor, he admitted that Yvonne had once tried to chase him but did not return her feelings.
However, Wendy had noticed then that Michael was reluctant to discuss that matter further.
That was how it had always been with him.
Whenever the topic about Wendy and Michael’s past came up, Michael avoided it like a plague. But Wendy did not want to avoid the topic anymore. She did not want to continue being a fool, guessing things.
Since nobody wanted to tell her, she could only ask Winnie.
It did not matter whether Winnie told Wendy the truth or not. All Wendy wanted to know was who the woman in the photographs was.
"Where are you going?" Michael gripped his cell phone tightly when he heard that Wendy was going out.
His reasonable mind told him that Wendy would not be unfaithful to him, but he was also too afraid of losing her. In all the photographs, Wendy had been in a cafe, a hotel, and inside a room with the same man.
Any man would be angry when shown such photographs.
However, Michael trusted her. He only wanted to know who was behind this. He wanted to know who was trying to mess up their relationship.
"I..." Wendy became a little hesitant.
She knew that Michael was not on good terms with Winnie.
If she told him that she was going to meet Winnie, Wendy was not sure if he would agree to it.
Furthermore, Wendy felt a little more guarded toward Michael after seeing those photographs.
She took a small breath and blinked. "I was going to do some window shopping," she replied.
Wendy continued without waiting for Michael’s response, "If there is nothing else, I’m hanging up."
"Come home early." Michael started to panic. He held on tightly to his cell phone and said, "I will be home early today. I have something I want to talk to you about."
"Okay."
Wendy ended the call and drove off.
Michael immediately called Mr. York’s office and said coldly, "Track where Wendy is now."
Today, Winnie was not late. She was already waiting for Wendy at the entrance of the shopping mall.
Winnie saw Wendy from afar and shouted, "Wendy! Over here..."
Wendy walked over in long strides. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"The fifth level of this mall has only expensive custom-made brands. There is one that I really like, and they told me that they have new arrivals today and asked me to take a look." Winnie smiled and continued, "Sorry to make you shop with me again."
"I don’t have anything to do at home anyway," Wendy replied with a smile, but her voice sounded a little low.
Winnie stopped walking. She turned back to look at Wendy’s face and frowned.
"Wendy," she said, "Is something bothering you? Why do you seem unhappy? Do you not like shopping with me? If you didn’t feel like going out, you could have said so. I don’t mind. I just wanted you to shop with me to see if there is anything you like. If there were, I wanted to give it to you as a present."
"I..." Wendy rubbed her face subconsciously. "Is it that obvious?" she asked with a forced smile.
Winnie nodded solemnly.
Actually, it was not that Wendy’s expression was obvious.
Winnie had planned to say that if Wendy agreed to meet her today.
She had said that to fish information from Wendy.
Wendy lowered her head a little and pursed her lips.
She looked around and saw a dessert shop.
"Shall we sit in there?" she asked Winnie.
"Okay." Not only did Winnie agree, but she also deliberately patted Wendy’s shoulders and said, "You can tell me anything. I might not be able to help you solve your problem, but I am older than you and have more experience than you, so I should be able to give you some advice."
Inside the dessert shop, Wendy found a table in a corner, ordered a dessert, and looked down in her seat.
A look of satisfaction appeared in Winnie’s eyes when she saw Wendy’s dejected look.
However, the moment Wendy looked up, Winnie quickly switched to showing Wendy concern.
Winnie let out a sigh. "Wendy," she said, "what is it? Tell me about it."
Wendy took out the photographs from her bag and showed them to Winnie.
Winnie took the photographs and faked a look
of surprise at the people in the photographs.
"Wendy, where did you get these from? Don’t tell me Michael still kept these photographs at home, did he?"
Winnie looked furious as she hit the table with her hand. "That Michael is really too much! He is getting along fine with you now, but his mind is still filled with such thoughts. He’s just like his father. Makes my blood boil!"
When Wendy first looked at those photographs, she had not felt much emotion. But after Winnie’s outburst, Wendy’s heart suddenly became anxious.
