Chapter 204: I Can Join You At The Mall

Wendy Stewart did not have to remain warded this time and headed home after collecting her prescription.

The difference was that Michael Lucas prohibited Wendy from returning to work at the office.

Wendy had been pushing herself at work recently so resting at home was a good change.

It was exactly four in the afternoon when they left the hospital.

Leah and Jake Stewart would be dismissed from school at four thirty, so Wendy wanted to pick them up from school.

Turning to Michael who was at the wheel, she said, "Let’s go pick Jake and Leah up from school. I’m sure it would make them happy to see us waiting for them at the school gates."

"With your body in this state, it would do you good to rest at home. Let me pick them up later," Michael suggested as he was still worried about Wendy.

"I’m okay, this isn’t work after all," Wendy insisted.

After some thought, Michael agreed.

Shortly after arriving at the school gates Jake and Leah stepped out of the school building carrying their backpacks.

Jake, who was the more observant one, noticed Wendy and Michael immediately.

Grabbing Leah’s hand, he exclaimed, "Leah, Mummy and Daddy are here!"

"Really?" asked Leah scanning her surroundings. Soon after, she noticed Wendy waving at them.

"Mummy!" Leah exclaimed as she leapt into Wendy’s arms. Looking up, she could not contain her happiness as she asked, "Mummy, why are you here to pick us up?"

"Because I missed you both!" Wendy she ruffled Leah’s soft hair and asked, "Are you happy to see us?"

"Of course!" Leah blurted, nodding her little head furiously.

Jake looked on at the picture of bliss before him, a smile appeared on his face in response.

He had wanted to hug Wendy as well but did not want to vie for the spot with his sister.

Michael stretched his hands wide, announcing, "There’s still a hug up for grabs here."

Jake threw a quick glance at Michael without hiding his dislike.

Michael’s stretched arms were left dangling in mid-air awkwardly as he commented, "Oh come on, Jake, don’t leave Daddy hanging here in embarrassment..."

Michael was obviously joking. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Nonetheless, it was enough to earn Michael a hug despite Jake’s clear preference.

Leah laughed at this, "In the past, we could only hug Mummy. Now that we have Daddy with us, we can each hug one!"

"Is this your child? My daughter tells me about an adorable pair of twins all the time and even blames me for not making her more beautiful! Seeing your family in person, I can see why she says such things," commented a lady in her thirties as she held on to an envious little girl’s hand.

"Your daughter looks very lovely too," responded Wendy who was flattered to have heard such compliments about her children.

Turning to the man beside her, Wendy had to admit that her children’s good looks were contributed by him.

"Mummy, why didn’t you find a better-looking daddy? That way I would have been more pretty," complained the little girl who was now pouting.

"Well, if I had found a better-looking daddy, then I wouldn’t have you!" laughed the little girl’s mother with a tinge of helplessness in her voice.

"We’ll be off then, goodbye," said the little girl’s mother.

Only after the pair were a long distance away, did the lady realize how familiar the couple was.

When she turned back to see, Wendy’s family was long gone.

It was the first time Wendy and Michael came to pick their children up together.

The exuberant twins pleaded their parents to go shopping as a family, something they had never done before.

However, with his concerns about Wendy’s health in mind, Michael firmly refused.

It was a good thing that both Jake and Leah were understanding children who did not insist any further.

The next day was Saturday, so Wendy naturally had no intention to show up at the office. freёwebnovel.com

Even if she wanted to go, Michael would nag at her.

What surprised her was that Michael was still at home when she woke up.

Jake and Leah had woken up much earlier, and Michael was playing with them.

"Good morning. Zess has just warmed breakfast up. Have some food after you wash up," Michael instructed, looking at Wendy.

"Why are you still home today? Aren’t you going to the office?" asked Wendy.

Michael placed a wooden block down to complete what they were building. Relief washed over him, and a smile spread across his face.

Turning to Wendy, he responded, "Didn’t the kids ask to shop at the mall yesterday? I won’t be going to the office today, so I can join you lot at the mall."

"You don’t have to. I can manage on my own. You should go ahead with your work," Wendy urged, knowing how much work Michael had. "You don’t have to take time out just to follow us to the mall."

"Work will never end," said Michael. "I’ve taken over a substantial amount of the market by now, so taking a day off won’t make any difference."

Wendy thought about it and agreed that Michael should take a break since he had been buried in work for such a long time. It would be lovely to take time out just to breathe some fresh air and relax as a family.

Wendy had her breakfast and dressed up. She specifically chose a dainty dress and took extra care with her makeup.

Wendy and Michael then left the house holding hands with each one of their twins.

Their family looked lovely together, and wherever they went, many heads turned.

In the mall, many passers-by could recognize who Michael and Wendy were. Some even wanted to take a picture with them.

As a food lover, Leah was easily bribed into taking photographs whenever someone offered her a lollipop.

"Mummy!" Leah raised her cotton candy in effervescent joy. She raised the stick of cotton candy towards Wendy. Due to her tiny stature, the cotton candy was out of reach from Wendy’s mouth. "Mummy, try the cotton candy! It’s so sweet!"

Bending over, Wendy took a bite before reminding Leah, "Don’t eat so much though,

we don’t want you to get a cavity."

Leah nodded obediently.

Wendy’s family strolled around the mall and stepped into a clothing store.

"I’ll go over there to take a look at some clothes," announced Wendy as she noticed a pretty dress and wanted to take a closer look.

Leah and Jake hurriedly tottered behind her.

"Michael, what a coincidence! What brings you to the mall?" Winnie Quinn’s voice rang aloud. She did not expect to meet her son here and was all smiles upon noticing him. She continued, "Every time I call you, you’re always telling me that you’re busy, and you’d refuse to say anymore! Now that we’ve bumped into each other, come keep me company as I shop! Speaking of which, it’s been years since we’ve... "

Winnie had not finished her sentence when she spotted Wendy in the corner of the store. The smile on her face quickly disappeared.

"Michael, what do you think of this?" asked Wendy as she excitedly held a red dress in her hands and walked over to Michael.

When she noticed Winnie beside Michael, the atmosphere grew awkward instantly.

She did meet Winnie after she had lost her memory, but there were no pleasant encounters to speak of.

Despite knowing that Winnie is Michael’s mother, Wendy did not know much else about her.

Although she was Michael’s wife, she could not familiarly regard Winnie. Nodding politely at Winnie, she greeted, "Hello, Mrs. Lucas."

"Of course, you’re accompanying her. No wonder. Why else would you have the time to come to the mall?" commented Winnie without hiding the bitterness in her voice.

"Mom, I’ve honestly been busy these days. I could only take time out today," explained Michael.
