Chapter 177: Leah And Jake Are Twins
Michael had no idea what Todd had talked to Wendy about when they were alone.
The question grew stronger in his heart.
Wendy heard footsteps coming and she asked, "Is Michael coming in?"
Then, Wendy heard another set of footsteps. She knew that everyone had come back into the room.
Michael responded with a short "mm". He then lowered his chin and took a closer look at Leah.
Leah, noticing his stare, lifted her head and smiled as she looked back at Michael. She sweetly called out, "Uncle Michael..."
"Good girl, Leah," Michael greeted. He looked at the obedient Leah, growing even fonder of her.
Yet he grew more suspicious too, looking at her. She was such an adorable kid. Why wouldn’t Todd, as her father, bring her along with him?
Michael looked at Leah and took another look at Jake. The two children seemed to be at the same age.
A sudden idea popped into his head, terrifying him.
’It’s impossible! Leah is Todd’s daughter,’
Michael thought. He looked at Wendy, forcing himself to calm down. If what he thought was true, it meant that Wendy didn’t want him to know from the very beginning.
After a while, Michael lifted Leah up. He smiled, asking, "Leah, have you eaten breakfast? There’s a place that serves delicious breakfast near the hospital. Shall I bring you there?"
"I’ve already eaten. Grandma brought us to have some breakfast before coming to the hospital," Leah replied.
"Should I bring you out to walk around then? I remember you like soft toys. Do you like Barbie dolls? Should I bring you to go and get one?" Michael asked, looking for an excuse to bring her out.
"Really?" Leah exclaimed in surprise, beaming in excitement the moment she heard ’Barbie doll’. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Yes," Michael answered. He then looked at Wendy, saying, "Leah and Jake have been staying in the hospital for the past few days. They haven’t had a chance to relax. Jake hasn’t fully recovered yet so I won’t bring him with me. Leah should be bored. I’ll bring her out for a walk."
There was nothing wrong with what Michael was saying.
Everyone had been around Wendy for the past few days and it wasn’t a good idea to be in the hospital all the time.
"Please take good care of her then," Wendy replied courteously and distantly.
Michael didn’t like Wendy behaving so courteously with him. If what he guessed was true, Leah was his daughter. But Michael wasn’t certain yet.
The reason why he wanted to bring Leah out alone was to ask Leah personally. Jake was too smart. If he were to come along, it would be impossible for him to get an answer. It was even more impossible with Wendy around. The best way was to ask Leah alone.
However, Jake tugged Michael’s shirt and looked up at him, saying, "Daddy, I want to go too."
Michael had no choice. Why was his son always going against him?
"You have yet to recover. I’m worried that you might catch a cold if I bring you out," Michael said.
"I’m well now. I’m not really sick," Jake insisted.
Michael looked into Jake’s eyes and realized that Jake was suspicious of him bringing Leah out. He really wished that his son wasn’t as smart then.
Just as Michael was trying to figure out what to say, Wendy spoke, "Your Daddy is right. Jake, be a good boy. You can go out when you are fully recovered in a few more days."
"Mommy..." Jake wanted to say something but he gave up after glancing at Wendy and Michael.
"What kind of toy do you like? I’ll bring it back for you," Michael asked, looking at his son. He wanted to entice his son, offering a bribe.
However, Jake was in no mood for toys. He replied calmly, "It’s okay."
"Uncle Michael, I know what Jake likes," Leah said cheekily.

Michael carried Leah in his arms and left the hospital. He helped her put on the safety belt after they got in the car. In a gentle voice, he asked, "Leah, what toy do you like?"
It shouldn’t be difficult for Michael to find out things from Leah without Wendy and Jake. The reason why Michael had wanted to bring her out alone was that he wanted to ask her some questions. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"I like Barbie dolls and all kinds of soft toys!" Leah replied excitedly.
Leah had dimpled cheeks, and her eyes twinkled like starlight when she smiled.
Michael looked at her adorable face closely and realized that her facial features looked just like Wendy’s. Wendy had dimples when she smiled too. But Michael hardly saw Wendy smiling even after being married for so many years.
Michael thought of the past and regretted what he’d done and how he’d behaved with Wendy back in those days. If he could turn back time, he definitely wouldn’t have been so cold to Wendy.
Fortunately, they were still alive and Michael still had an opportunity to make it up to them.
"What about Jake?" Michael asked.
"Jake likes Sudoku and Lego," Leah replied frankly. She then added, "But Jake doesn’t play with toys much. He prefers reading. Jake is very smart. He knows many things. He hasn’t gone to kindergarten yet but he can read. He even taught me to read and write. But I’m too dumb. I have to learn many times before I can remember."
"You’re not dumb. Jake’s just very smart," Michael said as he smiled. He added, "When you grow older, you will be as smart as Jake. It’s just that you are too young."
"But I’m as old as Jake," Leah said, pouting.
Michael’s heart began racing. She was as old as Jake.
Michael continued to pursue further, "You’re the same age as Jake? Were you born on the same day too?"
"Yes..." Leah turned to look at Michael innocently. "Don’t you know? Jake and I are twins. I heard that Jake was born 15 minutes before me."
The word ’twins’ landed a heavy punch at Michael’s head, even though he had already suspected it. In short, it meant that both of them were his children.
But Michael still found it astonishing. So Wendy had been pregnant with two children back then. Why hadn’t they found out about it?
Michael thought about what had happened five years ago. He had never been to any of Wendy’s check-up appointments then. Wendy had already been pregnant for four months when he’d found out that she was carrying.
On top of that, Christian had been the one who had arranged for the first check-up.
No wonder none of them knew that she was pregnant with twins back then.
Michael couldn’t resist giving himself a tight slap, recalling the past. He had been a complete ass. He hadn’t known his wife was pregnant, much less with twins.
Leah saw Michael slapping himself and she exclaimed in surprise. "Uncle Michael, why did you hit yourself?"
Michael came back to reality and saw Leah frowning. He immediately smiled, explaining, "Leah, I am actually your dad. Do you know that? You should call me ’daddy’."
"Huh? Why do you want me to call you daddy too?" Leah asked in confusion.
"What do you mean?" Michael asked.
"Uncle Todd told me to call him ’daddy’ too when he brought me to Lake City," Leah explained, frowning. She added, "I didn’t understand why Uncle Todd wanted me to call him ’daddy’."
