Chapter 144: Had Jill Seriously Fallen For Michael?

Wendy was getting hungry, and Michael and Jill had walked out of sight.

She packed her things and decided to go for lunch. The dining area was huge, so she didn’t think she would run into them in the company cafeteria. Besides, Michael usually ate in his own private room. She just had to find a table in the corner, and she probably wouldn’t run into them. or so she thought.

On the way to the cafeteria, she would hear Some comments about Michael. But this time, the comments included Jill as well.

"Hey, did you see that?"

"See what?"

"The boss is having lunch with Corrine’s assistant. And they seem to be enjoying each other’s company too."

"I saw them! I just came back from the cafeteria."

"Jill even put food on Mr. Lucas’ plate. They seem rather close."

"What?! I’ve just started shipping Mr. Lucas and Corrine, but now he’s changed target? You’ve got to be kidding!"

"I almost couldn’t believe my eyes either. But it’s all real. You can go to the cafeteria and take a look yourself. The two of them are seated in the main dining area. If you go now, you should be able to see them."

"Why are you guys making such a big fuss? They’re just having lunch together. Haven’t you eaten with a member of the opposite sex before?"

"AHEM! We’re talking about the president of the company here! Have you ever seen him eat with any woman alone? And he’s actually doing it right in the middle of the company cafeteria! But since he’s always been devoted to Miss Swift, I think it’s Jill who’s trying to seduce him."

Wendy knew that Michael and Jill were having lunch together, but these comments made her rather unhappy.

She felt that Jill’s behavior had given everyone else the wrong impression and everyone who didn’t know better now saw Jill in a bad light.

Jill had come with her to Lake City, so she felt that it was her duty to make sure she didn’t end up ruining Jill’s reputation. Timothy would reprimand her if he found out.

She coughed quietly and said to the bunch of gossipers in front of her, "Didn’t Mr. Lucas set a policy against employees gossiping? If this goes on, I will have to tell him about what you’ve just said."

The group immediately shut up when they heard her voice and apologized.

"M-miss Swift, we’re really sorry, we won’t do it again."

"Sorry, Miss Swift, we’ll ... we’ll get back to work now."

The group left quickly. She was just warning them to scare them, but she wasn’t going to report them at all.

She spotted Jill and Michael immediately after stepping into the cafeteria.

Both were seated in the main dining hall and were at a rather conspicuous table.

She didn’t want to run into them, so she lowered her head and tried to walk around them.

Jill had been on the lookout for Wendy all this time. That was precisely why she had chosen this table in the first place. Now that Wendy had arrived, it was time to put on a show.

She gave Michael a kick under the table and gave him a knowing look. Then she put some food onto his plate and purposely sounded as gentle as possible, "Mr. Lucas, you really should eat more since you’re so skinny. You know, men don’t always look nice when they’re just skinny. Having a little meat makes you nicer to touch and hug."

Wendy didn’t react to the first bit, but the last sentence caught her attention and she nearly stopped walking. That sounded really suggestive. But she soon picked up speed again and tried to walk further away from them.

Jill noticed Wendy’s reaction, so she decided to sound even more suggestive. "You look like you’ve got a pretty good figure, actually. Do you work out regularly? Do you have abs? Can I touch them?"

This time, Wendy froze in her footsteps.

Jill’s seat was facing Wendy, while Michael’s back was to her. Jill whispered to Michael, "She’s just behind you and she’s suddenly stopped walking, so I think my words have finally managed to agitate he."

Michael nodded very slightly and deliberately cleared his throat as he sounded like he was being put in a difficult position, "Er... I don’t think that’s a good idea." fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Wendy nearly scoffed out loud. Not a good idea?

He should have just told her no outright!

To her, Jill was still like a child. She had just graduated from university while Michael was a full ten years older.

Wendy thought that Jill had decided to drag Michael along for lunch just for fun, but it now looked like Jill was seriously trying to go after him. But even if Jill didn’t know any better, surely Michael should know better, right?

"A lot of the guys I met in university liked working out, so it’s not like I’ve not seen muscular bodies before," Jill continued. "But I was just curious about the body of someone who’s always working in an office."

"So... you’ve never had an older boyfriend before?" Michael’s question was equally suggestive.

"Psh, I can’t even get a boyfriend" Jill sighed heavily. "I was stuck on campus all day, so l only had my peers to choose from. But those classmates of mine were all so childish. I honestly didn’t think very much of any of them."

Wendy knew that Jill had never even had a crush on any of her peers, but she didn’t know it was because she felt that they were too childish for her. But it was true that there weren’t many outstanding people around Jill’s age.

To put it more accurately, the people closest to Jill were way too outstanding, so they all paled in comparison. Her father was a famous top designer, so his daughter had been treated like a princess as a result. freeweɓnovel.cøm

Most of the boys who had tried to get close to Jill were more interested in her family wealth and influence than in her. Jill wasn’t interested in those overly eager and materialistic men. But Wendy still felt very uncomfortable with the way Jill was talking to Michael. These did not sound like appropriate topics to talk about.

Had Jill seriously fallen for Michael?

Wendy pursed her lips as she remained standing where she was, wondering if she ought to just walk away or share the table with Jill.

She didn’t want Jill to get together with Michael.

Their age gap was wide, and it would make their relationships very complicated. But while she deliberated, Jill pretended to look like she had just spotted Wendy and started waving to her. "Miss Swift, you’re here! Come and eat with us!"

Now that Jill had spotted her, Wendy had no choice but to join them.

She walked over and smiled. "You guys are almost done, aren’t you?"

"Not yet. I’ve been chatting with Mr. Lucas all this time." Jill smiled brightly like a cute and innocent young lady. "I’m surprised that it’s so fun to talk to him." She even smiled at Michael and said, "Didn’t we have fun?"

Michael had purposely put on a straight face and coughed quietly when he saw Wendy walk over. He looked more like he had been caught doing something naughty as he averted Wendy’s eyes and replied simply, "Yeah."

"Looks like we’re on the same wavelength!" Jill seemed even happier now.

Wendy realized that she had to join this table.

She had to watch over Jill and make sure she never got too close to Michael. Otherwise, Timothy was going to hold her accountable for it.

Wendy got her food and sat down next to Jill.

"Having fun, huh? So, what were you guys talking about?"

"Nothing in particular," said Jil. "Mr. Lucas was Curious about whether I’ve had any boyfriends in the past, so we were chatting about this for a while."

That was the last thing Wendy had heard before coming over too. She glanced at Michael, but he immediately lowered his head and looked guilty.

The more he behaved this way, the more Wendy began to frown.

He quickly explained, "We were just chatting casually."

Chatting casually? Wendy kept her eye on Michael and asked, "So, what else did you guys casually chat about then?"

"oh, we were also talking about his abs..." Jill replied. She leaned closer to Wendy as she asked rather suggestively, "Wendy, does he have big abs?"

Jill grew up in a more liberal city and was all right with talking about such things openly, but Lake City was a more conservative place, so Wendy didn’t think it was a good idea for Jill to go around talking like this.

She thought about how she should explain this to Jill.

"Jill, we’re in Lake City. Talking about things like that will cause others to misunderstand you, do you know what I’m trying to say?"

Of course, Jill knew what she was trying to say. In fact, she was doing this in hope of making Wendy misunderstand her.

"Oh?" Jill put on an innocent expression. "I didn’t know Lake City was such a conservative place."

"In any case, it’s better for you not to talk like that," Wendy observed Jill and it seemed like Jill had approached these topics with no other intention, so she felt a little less anxious now.

If Jill wasn’t aware of how misleading or suggestive her words were, then that wasn’t too hard a problem to solve.

Wendy looked back at Michael and her voice became a little stern. "Jill is young and grew up in a much more liberal city, so I’m not surprised that she speaks her mind freely like this. But you’re much older, so I’m sure you know what’s appropriate and what’s not."

Michael cleared his throat and gave the same reason as before, "We’re just chatting casually, really. She’s like a younger sister to you, isn’t she? So, she’s like my younger sister too. I don’t think there’s anything wrong in having a casual chat."

"Michael Lucas!" Wendy began getting a little angry at his flippant attitude. "On my way here, I heard a number of employees gossiping about the two of you!"

"Who did that?" asked Michael. "Tell me their names and I’ll fire them immediately."

"Is this a problem that can be solved by just firing people?" Wendy was so furious. "I’m warning you, Jill is only 23 this year."

"Wendy, don’t you think..." Michael pursed his lips and looked a little strangely at her, as if Wendy was making a mountain out of a molehill. "Don’t you think you’re overreacting?"

"Agree," Jill chimed in.

Wendy put her utensils down with a loud clang.

How could they say that she was overreacting?

Jill quickly hooked her arm around Wendy’s and smiled as she coaxed her, "Wendy, why are you getting so agitated? Or... are you jealous?"

She was purposely trying to agitate Wendy. Wendy pulled a long face and glared back at Jill.

"I’ve told you before that I will not get back together with Michael. So, there’s nothing to be jealous of..."

"Then why are you so angry?" Jill let go of Wendy’s arm and held out her utensils with a smile. "Tuck in, the food’s getting cold."
