When the police received the call and realized that it was from a four-year-old child, they exclaimed kids nowadays were getting smarter.
The kidnapper was Yvonne and she requested to get in contact with Michael Lucas. Of course, they knew who Michael Lucas was since he was just at the police station the day before. And what thickened the plot most was that the kid’s mother was actually Corrine. This made the case a tricky one. They managed to dismiss the case yesterday and thought that would be the last of these two influential characters. But who would have known, after just one day, they were both back at the police station for a different case?

Before coming to the police station, Michael thought of coming here to understand the situation better and see if there was anything he could help Yvonne with. But upon arrival and seeing Wendy, he knew there was no way he could get Yvonne out of this. Of all things, Yvonne tried to kidnap Jake. Jake was Michae’s son, after all. Luckily, Jake was smart, otherwise, he would have been in the hands of Yvonne by then.
Michael did not trust Yvonne on this matter.
With the bad blood between Wendy and her, there was no way she would be so nice to the son of an arch-enemy.
With the blessing from Michael, the police officers wasted no time retrieving the surveillance footage. They transferred the footage onto two tablets and passed one to Michael and the other to Wendy. "Please have a look for yourselves."
Wendy watched the footage showing Jake coming out from the school gate and flagging a taxi by the road. Yvonne rushed towards Jake and, indeed, she carried Jake out of the car.
Shortly after, she offered Jake snacks. From the footage, it was enough to show that Yvonne had the intention to kidnap Jake.
Wendy looked at Yvonne and then turned to Michael. She said coldly, "Now that you have seen the footage, Mr. Lucas, are you still going to bail Yvonne out?"
Wendy knew for a fact how well Michael treated Yvonne in the past. She could close one eye when Yvonne tried to take her down. But now that she had intended harm to her son, she could not tolerate any further.
"Michael, it is not what you see..." Yvonne reached out to grab Michael’s hand and tears started to roll down her cheeks. "This footage is doctored by Wendy. It’s..."
Michael flung her hand off his and looked coldly into her eyes. "Yvonne, I am utterly disappointed in you." When Michael received the call earlier, he had come to the police station in view of the promise he made to Harold. After he saw the footage, he had completely lost any hope that it could be a misunderstanding. He thought that Yvonne might be just fooling around just to get even with Wendy. But this time, she tried to kidnap Jake.
Looking at Yvonne, Michael questioned angrily, "What were your intentions, Yvonne? You trying to kidnap Jake, who are you trying to get even with? Is it Wendy, or is it me?"
"It is not what you think, Michael."
Michael had enough of what Yvonne had to say.
Seeing the situation, the officers took the opportunity to ask, "Mr. Lucas, how do you want to handle this?"
"Do what you need to do and prosecute the case as required. You don’t have to be cautious of my existence." Michael glanced at Wendy and said intentionally, "The kid she tried to kidnap is my Son."
With Michael’s final statement, it gave the police officers a clear direction of how they should handle the case.
It never occurred to Yvonne before that the person she called in to help herself would be the person who would instruct a heavier sentence on her.

Harold was her last line of defense. But she had used his name way too many times that now Michael had become immune to it. He looked at Yvonne and spoke coldly, "Yvonne, let me make it clear that the guilt I have towards Harold has nothing to do with you. I have tolerated your nonsense and let you do as you wish because that was Harold’s last wish before he passed on.
"I have done all I could for you and I don’t owe you anything."
"Michael..."Yvonne wanted to go on.
The police officers were caught in a war of gossip. But being officers, they had to be partial and fair. The officers looked between Yvonne and Jake as one said, "Yvonne Taylor will be charged for attempted kidnap since she did not succeed in doing so. According to the law, she will be detained for thirty days for counseling."
As for Yvonne, she was having the worst luck. Although she did attempt to kidnap Jake, it was not successful and Jake was unhurt. Under normal circumstances, she would be detained for at least five days and up to a maximum of thirty days. But since Michael had already given his stance on the matter, the police officers went with the highest level of penalty for Yvonne.
The officers looked at Michael and Wendy, "Do you agree with this penalty?"
"I’m good as long as it is done according to the law," Michael said without hesitation.
On the other hand, Wendy was unsatisfied with the penalty. She would have preferred for Yvonne to be locked up forever and to not be released ever again. But since the officers had already stated the consequences, she could only agree to it. She trusted that the law was fair and just.
After the case was wrapped up, Wendy held Jake’s hand and left the police station. Michael was a step behind them, gazing at them from behind. They were his wife and son, but now none of those statuses held up. Michael could not help but reminisce back to the time when they got married eight years ago. He had never loved Wendy back then. In fact, he hated her so much that he would torture her at every opportunity he got. He only had himself to blame for reaching this conclusion. He had started the vicious cycle with his own hands.
Jake turned back and peeped at Michael, who looked lonely and desolate. He released his hand from Wendy’s and walked towards Michael. He raised his head and said, "Thank you, Uncle Michael."
Michael squatted down and smiled, "And you are thanking me for?"
"Thank you for not helping the bad lady. I know if you helped her today, she wouldn’t have gotten punished." Jake blinked innocently as he vocalized his thoughts.
Michael reached out to pat Jake on his head and smiled. Finally, he had done something good that his son approved of.
Wendy turned back and called out, "Jake."
Jake did not say anything after that and turned around to hold his mother’s hand once again.
"There is something you haven’t told us yet." As they continued to walk toward her car, Wendy asked, "Why did you leave school early today?"
Jake knew that Wendy would ask about this as soon as she could. He replied pitifully, "Mummy well, the things they teach in school are too childish. I was so bored. So, I decided to sneak out to play. I didn’t expect that this would happen."
Jake did not dare to mention that he skipped classes because he wanted to visit Michael. If he had said so, his mother would be very worried and upset that Jake was being disobedient by trying to get close to Michael. He decided it would be best to find an excuse to cover up for his true intentions.

She clicked into a tweet in the trending hot topic section that had keywords with their names; "Michael and "Corrine". She briefly read through the post and could tell that there were generally two schools of opinion.

This particular thread was very active. Wendy read it for pure entertainment. But currently, Wendy had no idea what her next steps should be. Her initial goal, to return to Lake City and take revenge, was very clear. And now, she had nearly Michael over and Michael had lost interest in her. If he really accepts the arrangement his family had and decides to be with Yonina, her coming back to Lake City became meaningless. She clenched her hands into fists. No matter what, she would not let him get his way so easily.
