Chapter 106: Wendy, Where Is The Child?
"Michael, since she won’t admit that she’s Wendy Stewart, it only goes to show that she has a motive for coming back this time," said Yvonne, who was trying her best to tarnish Wendy’s reputation. "Have you forgotten that she got pregnant with a b*stard child five years ago? Instead of eloping with him, she came back for you. Aren’t you suspicious of her intentions at all?" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Naturally, Michael had spent a lot of time thinking about the reason behind Wendy’s return.
He knew that she was here for revenge. Five years ago, he tried to force her into an abortion, and she mistakenly believed that he had chosen to save Yvonne over her during the kidnapping.
There was no news from her for the next five years, and now that they had finally reunited, she had returned to this city under a whole new identity. On top of that, she had also made a name for herself within the design industry.
This meant that Wendy waited until she was powerful before showing herself again.
Yvonne had reminded Michael of something.
He wondered, if Wendy is still alive, what about the child? Until now, I have not seen any child by her side.
Suddenly, the image of a young boy surfaced in his mind. The one that he met at the airport and at the party... Everything seemed too coincidental. At that time, he was focusing solely on Wendy and did not have the capacity to think about anything else.
Moreover, he had assumed that the child was dead when he saw her appearance alone. It would have been too difficult for a fetus to survive the incident five years ago, after all. But now, Michael finally understood everything. He realized that Wendy’s child was still alive, and that she had brought him back here.
He had thought about many things over the past five years. When he first regained consciousness after the masked kidnapper knocked him out, he activated all his men to look for Wendy. He had neglected the kidnappers.
When he finally turned his attention to them, they had already fled the country. He did not manage to catch the kidnappers, and he had doubts about the details of the whole situation.
The circumstances back then had been too suspicious. That was also precisely why he fired Christian right after the incident. Michael believed that Wendy’s child might really be his.
Now, hearing Yvonne insult the child like that, he pushed her away without hesitation. Glaring at her, he said, "Yvonne Taylor, you should know your place. This is not a place where you can behave this way."
Yvonne was not surprised by Michael’s attitude toward her. After all, it had been five years since Wendy’s alleged death. But even though Yvonne had tried so hard to pursue Michael, she had failed to get between them. And now, Wendy had returned.
Even though she was not surprised, she was still upset about it. She bit down on her bottom lip so forcefully that she almost drew blood.
She said, "Michael..."
The security guards had arrived by now.
Michael said mercilessly, "Escort her out of this place. From now on, she’s not allowed to step into MC Enterprise without Miss Corrine’s permission!"
"Michael, you can’t be so heartless!" Yvonne could accept getting thrown out of the company.
However, it was difficult to bear with Michael’s declaration about needing Corrine’s permission to enter. She hated Wendy with a burning permission, but right now, she could not even step into the company without her permission.
She felt like she was being stabbed right in the heart.
"Take her away!" Michael repeated himself.
The security guards immediately started dragging her away.
"Michael, I admit that I was at fault," said Yvonne, who was now feeling frightened. She knew that she would not get the opportunity to step into MC Enterprise again after this. This also meant that she would never see Michael again, since he would never take the initiative to meet her. She could not leave now. If she did, she would lose the chance to win Michael back.
Michael ignored her. Yvonne realized that at this moment, she had to beg Wendy. She believed that as long as she acted apologetically in front of all these people, Wendy would have to agree to cut her some slack. After all, she was pretending to be "Corrine", and she could not behave too harshly.
Hence, Yvonne turned to Wendy and said, "I’m sorry, Miss Corrine, it’s all my fault. I should not have treated you as Wendy Stewart. I got confused and lost control. I hope that you can be understanding and not hold it against me."
Wendy snorted. She could hardly believe what Yvonne was asking of her and wondered if she was simply trying to make herself appear as. weak and fragile as she could. Wendy thought, should I call her stupid for still using the same tricks that she did five years ago, or should I call her spineless for being able to bow her head and apologize immediately after the commotion she just caused?
Unfortunately, Wendy no longer wished to entertain her shenanigans.
"Is Miss Taylor really begging for mercy right after insulting Miss Corrine? She must have no shame at all!"
"Everyone knows that Miss Taylor has been pestering Mr. Lucas non-stop for the past few years, but he never paid any attention to her. Now that she’s about to be banned from entering this company, what else can she do but apologize?"
"Everyone thought that Wendy Stewart was the third-party who seduced Mr. Lucas five years ago. But Look at Miss Taylor following in her footsteps now. How unfortunate. Wendy Stewart also suffered greatly while she worked here."
Jill Lynn had been watching everything unfold her. With an indifferent look on her face, she gazed at Yvonne and said, "If you’re sincere about apologizing, you should kneel. You made such a big fuss just now, and you even tried to hit Miss Corrine as soon as you saw her. We all saw that. Now that you’re in trouble, do you think you can get away with this just by apologizing?"
When Wendy heard what Jill said, she turned her head slightly so that the smile on her face went unseen. She thought, Jill is really great at blowing things up. I appreciate that.
Yvonne’s eyes grew even wider. She was absolutely furious. In fact, her eyes were opened so wide that they looked like they were about to pop right out of their sockets.
"What’s wrong? You don’t want to?" Jill chuckled softly as she crossed her arms. "In that case, don’t act like you are truly apologetic. You’re just a b*tch. If we’re in Rheinsville City right now, I would have punched you already."
The people around them started gossiping again.
"She’s right, Yvonne is at fault for what happened today. After what she did, a simple apology is not going to resolve the matter."
"I think it’s a bit too much to ask her to kneel, but then again, she went overboard too."
"No matter what, Miss Corrine is still our boss. Since we’re on the same team, we should take her side."
"I agree with that."
When Yvonne heard what the people around her were saying, she realized that Wendy was no longer the same person that she was five years ago. The people in this company no longer hated her, and Michael was on her side.
She took a deep breath. Her knees hit the floor with a loud thud. Bowing her head, she said through gritted teeth, "I’m sorry, Miss Corrine. I hope that you can forgive me this once."
"Mr. Lucas, I hope that you can deal with this," said Wendy, completely ignoring Yvonne. At that, she turned around to face the other employees and said, "Let’s start the meeting!"
"Wendy Stewart, you were messing with me!" Yvonne immediately stood up. She pointed at her back and started screaming, "You did it on purpose, didn’t you? You sl*t!"
Wendy did not look back. Instead, she said coldly, "I did not ask you to kneel, and I did not say anything about forgiving you. Nobody has ever tried to bully me like that in my life!"
Indeed, Wendy did not say anything about forgiving Yvonne. It was Jill who suggested that Yvonne kneel and apologize. Wendy had not forgotten how Yvonne tried to corner her in the motel along with two other men five years ago, wanting to induce a miscarriage by beating her up. If they had not encountered the kidnappers at that time, Wendy and her child would have died. Seeing Yvonne kneel before her today felt good, but she would never forgive her, not for anything in this world!
...
Wendy was in a much better mood after the incident with Yvonne.
Michael followed her into the conference room. It became quiet again after Yvonne was dragged away by the security guards. Standing on the stage, Wendy introduced herself briefly, saying, "It’s nice to meet everyone. I think you should already know who I am after what happened just now."
After the laughter died down, her tone became more serious. She said, "But I think I should still formally introduce myself to everyone today. My name is Corrine, I am the chief designer of HG Enterprise, and the disciple of the renowned designer Timothy Woods. Starting today, I will be leading the design department here. I am confident that I have the ability to lead MC Enterprise into the international market."
Michael, who was sitting below the stage, could not help but applaud for Wendy after hearing her speech like everyone else. This was the first time he had seen her so loud and confident. He could not help but think about how timid and shy she had been five years ago.
He wondered how much she had suffered since then to become the person that she was today.
If it was possible, he very much preferred her to continue working as his assistant like she did in the past. He did not need her to be so brilliant or impressive, he just wanted her to stay by his side.
After the meeting, Wendy returned to her office. Michael followed her in. When she saw him, she raised her eyebrows and said, "Mr. Lucas, can I help you with anything?"
"I thought you had something to ask me," said Michael. He had been waiting for Wendy to ask him about Zen Tanner ever since he received the phone call from the HR manager. He figured that he would be able to get her to confess to being Wendy Stewart as soon as she raised the question. The commotion that Yvonne caused had been completely unexpected.
"I do have something to say to you," said Wendy as she blinked. "I hope that you will take good care of your personal affairs. I do not wish for what happened today to repeat itself."
"Don’t worry, it won’t happen again," said Michael seriously.
"That’s good to hear," Wendy nodded. Then, she bowed her head and started reading through the documents on her desk. When Michael continued to linger, she said again, "Mr. Lucas, is there anything I can help you with?"
Since Wendy refused to broach the subject, Michael decided to be straightforward. He said, "Aren’t you curious about what happened to Zen Tanner?"
There was an evident change in Wendy’s expression when she heard her friend’s name.
However, it was only for a split second. She quickly caught herself. Raising her eyebrows, she decided to feign ignorance and said, "Zen Tanner? Who’s that?"
Michael studied her face carefully. Unable to detect anything from her expression, he smiled faintly, "You are welcome to ask me anytime you feel curious about her."
"Sure," said Wendy. The truth was that she felt very curious, but she did not want to fall into Michael’s trap. It was an obvious.
"Mr. Lucas, if there’s nothing else, I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I have a lot of work to do," said Wendy as she looked up at him with a polite but distant smile on her face. It became clear that he was not welcome in this room.
Michael had followed her to her office for two reasons. The first one was to get Wendy to ask about Zen Tanner, and the second was the child.
This was what he cared more about. He suddenly approached her and spun her chair toward him so that she was trapped between his arms. Looking down at her, he said solemnly, "Wendy, where is the child? Since you’re alive, I know that he must be, too."
