Chapter 99: Chapter 99

Sophie’s POV

Tom laughed. "Vanessa doesn’t have weaknesses. She’s been planning her revenge for eighteen years. She’s obsessed. Single-minded. Nothing else matters to her."

"Everyone has weaknesses," I said.

Tom looked at me. "She hates you most of all, you know. Because Christian chose you. Because you represent everything she lost—family, pack, belonging. She wants to make Christian watch you die slowly."

Christian moved so fast I barely saw it. He had Tom pinned against the cell bars.

"Say another word about Sophie and I’ll rip your throat out," Christian snarled.

"Truth hurts?" Tom wheezed.

I pulled Christian back. "He’s trying to get a reaction. Don’t give it to him."

Christian released Tom, breathing hard.

"One more thing," Tom said, rubbing his throat. "Vanessa’s running out of money. Resources. The rogues she didn’t lose in the battle have mostly deserted her. She’s alone. Desperate. Which means she’ll take risks. Strike when you least expect it."

"When?" Christian demanded.

Tom shrugged. "Soon. She knows every day she waits, you get stronger. She’ll attack before you’re fully prepared."

We left the prison in silence.

"He’s right," I said finally. "She’s going to strike soon."

"Then we need to be ready."

That night, Christian called a pack assembly.

Everyone gathered in the main hall. Warriors. Families. Even the sanctuary residents.

Christian stood at the front with me beside him.

"Shadow Ridge pack," Christian began. "You’ve already proven your strength by defeating Harold’s attack. But the threat isn’t over. Vanessa is still out there. And she’s planning another assault."

Murmurs rippled through the crowd.

"This time, she’s specifically targeting your Luna." Christian’s hand found mine. "Which means we need to be more vigilant than ever. Marcus will be implementing new security protocols. I expect everyone’s full cooperation."

"We’ll protect Luna Sophie," a warrior called out. "With our lives if necessary."

"I’m not asking anyone to die for me," I said, stepping forward. "But I am asking you to be alert. Watch for anything unusual. Report it immediately. We face this threat together."

The pack howled their agreement.

After the assembly, Marcus approached with a grim expression.

"I’ve assigned a rotation of guards for Sophie. Six warriors, working in pairs, twenty-four seven."

I groaned. "I’m going to have babysitters?"

"You’re going to have protection," Christian corrected. "Deal with it."

Over the next week, Shadow Ridge became a military compound.

I couldn’t go anywhere without two warriors trailing behind me. Cameras tracked my every movement. Christian checked in through our bond every thirty minutes.

It was suffocating.

But I understood. Vanessa was out there. Waiting. Planning.

My visions became more frequent. More detailed.

I saw Vanessa scouting the territory borders at night. Watching the guard rotations. Looking for weaknesses.

"She’s studying us," I told Christian after one vision. "Learning our patterns."

"Then we change the patterns," Marcus said. "Randomize patrol schedules. Vary routes. Keep her guessing."

Diana taught me more aggressive Luna techniques.

"You’ve been using your power for healing," Diana said. "But Luna energy can also be a weapon."

She showed me how to project energy outward as a blast instead of a shield.

My first attempt knocked her backward three feet.

"Exactly," Diana said, grinning. "Do that to Vanessa and you’ll buy yourself time to escape."

Christian and I practiced fighting together. Not against each other—with each other.

We learned to communicate through our bond during combat. I’d sense where he was going to move before he did it. He’d feel when I needed support and be there.

"We’re stronger together," Christian said after one session. "Vanessa’s alone. That’s her weakness."

"So we use our connection against her isolation," I said.

"Exactly."

Two weeks after my first vision, I had another one.

This time, I was meditating with Diana when it hit.

The vision was crystal clear.

Full moon. Three nights away. Vanessa is attacking from the eastern border. Not with an army this time. Alone. Fast. Deadly.

And me—standing in the compound, separated from Christian by attacking rogues she’d hired as a distraction.

The vision showed Vanessa reaching me. Our fight. And—

I gasped as the vision released me.

"What did you see?" Diana demanded.

"The attack. It’s in three nights. During the full moon." I grabbed Diana’s arm.

We went to Christian’s office.

Marcus and Connor were already there, reviewing patrol schedules.

"Three nights," I blurted. "Full moon. Eastern border. Then Vanessa comes for me directly."

Christian stood immediately. "You’re sure?"

"Completely. The vision was clear. Detailed. She’s planned this perfectly."

Marcus pulled up a calendar. "Three nights. That’s not much time."

"It’s enough. We know she’s coming, so we use it against her, and Sophie stays with me. Always. We face her together."

"That’s risky," Connor said. "If you’re both in danger—"

"Then the pack knows Marcus takes over," Christian interrupted. "But I’m not letting Sophie face Vanessa alone. We’re stronger together."

I felt a rush of love through our bond.

"So we prepare," Marcus said. "Position warriors strategically. Set traps. When the distraction rogues attack, we contain them quickly. Don’t let them pull our forces apart."

"And when Vanessa comes for Sophie?" Diana asked.

Christian’s expression went cold. "Then she deals with both of us."

The next three days were a blur of preparation.

Warriors trained in rapid response tactics. Marcus positioned his best fighters at key locations. Connor prepared legal documents in case leadership needed to transfer.

Diana taught me one final technique—a Luna blast powerful enough to potentially kill.

"Only use this as a last resort," Diana warned. "It’ll drain you completely. You’ll be vulnerable afterward."

"Noted."

Christian barely left my side. We slept in shifts. Ate together. Trained together.

Our bond hummed constantly, keeping us connected.

On the third night, the full moon rose over Shadow Ridge.

Christian and I stood in our quarters, fully dressed in combat gear.

"Ready?" Christian asked.

"As I’ll ever be."

He pulled me close. "Whatever happens tonight, I love you. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me."

"Don’t say goodbye," I warned. "We’re both surviving this."

"Together?"

"Together."

Marcus’s voice came through the comm device. "Movement on the eastern border. Multiple rogues. It’s starting."

Christian and I ran for the door.

The battle was coming.

And this time, Vanessa wasn’t getting away.
