Chapter 132: Chapter 132
"You’re pregnant." Diana said again, her smile growing wider.
The words hung in the air like they were written in neon lights, but my brain couldn’t seem to process them. Pregnant. Me. Pregnant.
I stared at Diana, my mouth slightly open, waiting for the punchline. This had to be a joke, right? Except Diana didn’t joke about medical stuff. And she was looking at me with this patient, knowing expression that said she’d delivered this exact news before and was used to the shocked silence.
Christian had gone completely still beside me. Not breathing still. Not moving still. His hand had gone slack in mine, and when I glanced at him, his eyes were wide and unfocused, like someone had hit pause on him.
My free hand moved to my stomach without me telling it to. Just pressed flat against the surface that didn’t feel any different from it had this morning or yesterday or last week.
But apparently, there was something different there now. Someone different.
Christian’s eyes tracked the movement, following my hand down. Then his eyes filled with tears that just spilled over immediately, running down his face while he kept staring at my stomach like he could see through my shirt to whatever was happening inside.
"Are you—" My voice came out shaky and barely audible. "Are you absolutely certain? Like, could the test be wrong?"
Diana turned her tablet around so we could see the screen. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Numbers and markers that meant nothing to me, but Diana pointed to specific values. "Your hCG levels are elevated. Clear positive. And given your symptoms—the nausea, exhaustion, and food aversions—it all fits perfectly with first-trimester pregnancy."
First trimester. Pregnancy. Baby.
Oh my God.
Christian made this sound that wasn’t quite a sob but close, and then he was pulling me into his arms so hard I could barely breathe. His face buried against my neck, his whole body shaking, and I felt wetness against my skin from his tears.
My tears started then, hot and fast and unstoppable. We were going to have a baby. Christian and I were going to be parents. The thought was so huge it didn’t fit inside my head properly.
"I’m scared," I whispered against his shoulder, clutching him tighter. "I don’t know how to be a mom."
He pulled back just enough to cup my face, his face wet and his eyes red but so full of emotion it made my chest hurt. "I’m terrified too." His voice cracked. "But we’ll figure it out. Together. Like we always do."
I nodded, unable to form words past the lump in my throat.
Diana cleared her throat gently, and when I looked at her, her eyes were suspiciously bright too. "Congratulations, you two. This is wonderful news." She smiled. "Shadow Ridge is going to be so excited to welcome your baby." freёweɓnovel.com
Shadow Ridge. Pack. Everyone would know. Everyone would care about this baby because it was Alpha and Luna’s child. That thought sent a fresh wave of terror and wonder through me.
Diana’s expression shifted back to professional mode. "Now, we need to talk about some important things. Pregnancies between werewolves and humans are rare, but they do happen. Your baby will likely have some werewolf traits from Christian, but we won’t know the extent until birth, possibly later."
Christian’s hand had moved to my stomach now too, covering mine. His palm was warm and slightly trembling. "What do we need to know?" he asked, his voice steadier now but still thick with emotion.
"I’ll be monitoring Sophie closely throughout the pregnancy." Diana pulled up something else on her tablet. "Weekly appointments for the first month to establish baselines. Werewolf pregnancies sometimes progress faster than human ones, so we need to track everything carefully."
"Faster?" I squeaked. "How much faster?"
"We’ll have a better idea once we start tracking, but possibly eight months instead of nine. Maybe less." Diana made a note on her tablet. "Also, your nutrition needs will be different. The baby will likely need more protein than a typical human pregnancy. Your food aversions might be more intense too."
I thought about how the bacon smell this morning had nearly killed me. "Great."
"I’ll work with Elder Margaret on meal plans." Diana continued scrolling through information. "And I’m prescribing prenatal vitamins formulated specifically for cross-species pregnancies."
Cross-species. My baby was literally cross-species. That was my life now.
"What about Luna energy?" Christian asked, his hand still pressed protectively over mine on my stomach. "Can she still use it?"
Diana’s expression turned serious. "She can access it, but she needs to moderate usage. Especially in the first trimester. Overexertion could affect the pregnancy." She looked at me directly. "No more pushing yourself until you’re exhausted. No major energy expenditures. Your body needs those resources for the baby now."
"So no sanctuary visits?" I asked, thinking about the Luna connection I’d established there.
"Not until we see how the pregnancy progresses. Maybe the second trimester if everything looks good."
Christian’s jaw tightened. "She won’t be doing anything dangerous or strenuous from now on." His alpha voice was creeping in, the one that expected obedience. "No patrols, no confrontations, no—"
"Christian." I touched his face, making him look at me. "I’m pregnant, not broken. I’ll be careful, but I’m not going to become a helpless invalid."
His eyes flashed with conflict—agreement warring with the desperate need to protect me. "Sophie, you’re carrying our child. I can’t—" He stopped, jaw working. "I need to keep you safe."
"And I need to still be me." My voice was gentle but firm. "We have to find a balance."
Diana raised her hand. "May I?" We both looked at her. "Christian, Sophie needs to stay active and engaged for her physical and mental health. But Sophie, you need to accept reasonable limitations and ask for help when you need it. The goal is a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. That means compromise from both of you."
Christian looked like he wanted to argue, but he finally nodded tightly. "Reasonable limitations."
"Reasonable," I agreed.
