Chapter 48: If I do as you say...can I kill him?

"This is where you will be staying for the next month."

She introduced and Lucian—

"...what?"

"What?"

"I’ll be staying here for a month?"

"You have a problem?"

Vivienne tilted her head.

"I was told I would continue living my normal life."

"And?"

Vivienne asked as if she didn’t understand the problem.

"...how am I supposed to live my normal life if I stay here for a month? I have a University to attend."

"A University?"

Vivienne frowned in confusion, almost as if she was hearing the word for the first time in her life.

That was until finally, she recalled what it meant.

"A school."

"No, a University."

Lucian corrected.

"A school for older children."

That made Lucian frown.

Was she... trying to get under his skin?

She didn’t seem like she would do something like this intentionally just to irritate him.

"Skip it."

Vivienne ordered.

"Huh...?"

Lucian’s frown deepened.

"You know I can’t just skip it, right? I need at least 75% attendance to pass."

This time, it was Vivienne who frowned.

"Lucian."

She called his name with a solemn look on her face.

"There is a demon out for your blood, your body is a mess, you have no control over it, nor do you understand it and...

A school’s attendance is what you are worried about when I am extending a helping hand towards you?"

Lucian lowered his head and Vivienne—

"Might as well drop the pathetic idea of revenge you have in your mind because if there is one thing I am certain about, it is that demon won’t lose to a school student who’s worried about his attendance."

She turned around, as if she had already given up on him.

But then—

"University is not what I care about."

Lucian spoke up. freewebnøvel.com

Vivienne turned and raised her eyebrow when she noticed the look on his face.

His eyes were glowing with bright purple light.

Rage.

Intense Rage.

"I was told that he will come looking for me and when he does—

I want to be there."

His eyes glowed even more strongly.

"This is why I cannot stay here for an entire month."

Vivienne looked at his eyes, the determination, the rage, the hatred inside them and for a moment, she was surprised.

But then—

"That’s foolish."

She shrugged.

Lucian stared at her and Vivienne stared back.

"Why would you give someone you hate the satisfaction of killing you?"

"I won’t be the one dying."

"No, you will die."

Vivienne shook her head.

"I may not know who that demon who attacked your parents was, but even the weakest demon would kill the likes of you with ease."

"..."

Lucian didn’t say anything. He wanted to but there was nothing he could say.

He didn’t know anything about the supernatural world, he didn’t know what exactly demons were, how strong they were, their ranks, their nature, anything, he didn’t know anything.

What exactly could he say?

He was... helplessly speechless.

And that made him grit his teeth.

Vivienne looked at him and for a moment, the usual coldness in her eyes disappeared.

"You were given a second chance, Lucian.

Don’t waste it by being rash.

You want revenge, do you not? You wish to tear that Incubus apart, yes?

To do that, you need to get stronger—

Far stronger than you currently are."

The words echoed in the training hall, for a long time, both Vivienne and Lucian stayed silent.

Until...

"If I do as you say..."

Lucian raised his voice as he looked at Vivienne.

"...can I kill him?"

He asked, his eyes shining with the same rage but a stronger determination.

His state of mind was clear, if Vivienne said yes here, he would even sell her his soul if that’s what it took for him to avenge his parents.

But—

"I do not know."

Vivienne shook her head.

Those words broke Lucian as countless questions swarmed in his head.

Wasn’t she... supposed to be stronger than even that demon...?

A woman everyone seemed to fear...?

Even she couldn’t help him kill that bastard...?

Did it mean... he would never be able to kill him...?

Despair.

Vivienne’s words were more than enough to push Lucian into despair.

But...

Her next words changed that.

"You are a special case, the first of your type, there are no previous records to know how high your potential is or how strong you would become.

Or at least, that is what anyone else in the Enclave would tell you.

But I am different."

Lucian looked at Vivienne with a tinge of hope shining in his eyes.

"I do not rely on records, I rely on my instincts.

You survived the blood of a High Incubus, you somehow tamed what should have killed you.

That is not ordinary, that is a sign of excellence.

When I look at you—

My instincts only tell me one thing."

Vivienne let those words stay in the air for a moment.

"You will be strong.

Not just strong enough to avenge your parents—

You will become something more.

Something no force in the supernatural world would be able to ignore."

Lucian’s expression changed at those words, his eyes shined with strong determination and the will to prove those words correct, but the next second, Vivienne suddenly turned around and—

"Or you can go back, die at that demon’s hand and be done for good." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

She shrugged.

"At least Claire would appreciate that. It would make her work a lot easier if you are gone."

Saying those words, Vivienne started walking towards the door, uncaring of what Lucian would do.

It was clear, she may be interested in Lucian, her instincts may tell her to believe in his potential, but she wasn’t as deeply involved as to go out of her way to stop him from doing something foolish.

She would rather just leave and continue her life as it is.

But—

"I will stay."

Lucian spoke up.

Vivienne paused.

"A month, a year or even a decade.

It doesn’t matter how long it takes, I’ll stay."

His voice became even heavier and Vivienne—

For the first time in a long, long while—

She grinned.

She turned around, looked at him and extended her hand.

"Your communication device."

Lucian blinked, but he quickly understood what she meant, picked up his phone and handed it to her.

"You won’t get it as long as you are here, would you be able to bear with it? I hear children these days are quite addicted to it."

"As long as I get strong, do whatever you like."

Lucian didn’t take a second.

"Good."

Vivienne nodded. She then threw Lucian’s phone away, Lucian didn’t even bat an eye, at this point, it did not matter, Vivienne nodded again, the more she looked at him, the more satisfied she seemed.

"Then your training begins now."

She announced and Lucian—

"Yes."

He nodded.
