Chapter 179: You really spoil your students, huh.

"I look forward to seeing what you become."

"You won’t like it, trust me."

Lucian answered directly and his answer only made Nyssara’s smile widen.

"I hope that is not the case."

Then, she turned back to Severin.

"The Court of Desire recognizes this Accord. Vaelrith will be corrected. Evelyn Starling will not be targeted through sanctioned Court channels. Compensation will be negotiated with Enclave representatives."

"The Enclave recognizes the statement."

Severin nodded.

Nyssara moved a little, purple flames moving to give her the desired space.

"Farewell then, humans."

She smiled.

Her eyes stared at Lucian for one last second and before the mirror darkened, her figure started becoming blurry until the black surface became completely still again.

Then the Accord Mirror’s inner ring went dark.

The meeting was over.

For several seconds, no one spoke.

Lucian stared at the mirror with complex thoughts.

He still couldn’t believe half the things that had happened.

An Archdemon tried to buy him!

Buy him!

As if that wasn’t offensive enough, when she failed, she openly flirted with him.

And somehow...

That wasn’t even the strangest thing that had happened today.

"Come."

That was when Vivienne’s calm voice broke the silence.

Lucian looked at his teacher, then he nodded.

"Yes, Teacher."

He nodded at the two Seats, who seemed like they planned to stay here for some reason, then, he and his teacher left the meeting room together.

The corridor outside was quiet and as Lucian walked beside Vivienne, he asked a question.

"What happens to Evelyn now?"

Vivienne glanced at him.

"The mission is not over."

She answered.

"Nyssara agreed that the Court of Desire will not target Evelyn through official channels. That’s indirectly saying unofficial channels will be used."

"He’ll keep coming."

"Yes."

Lucian let out a quiet sigh.

"The difference is that he can no longer use the Court’s resources openly. Future attacks will be smaller."

"So... she’ll still need protection."

"She will, though Alaric and the others will be reassigned, especially Alaric."

"Why?"

Lucian frowned at those words.

"Alaric Ashcroft is one of the Enclave’s finest hunters. Keeping someone of his value tied to one protection mission forever would be wasteful."

"Wasteful."

Lucian snorted at that word.

Vivienne only stared at him.

"You should be used to this at this point."

"I am getting used to it."

Lucian nodded.

And he wasn’t lying, he understood how Enclave worked and he did not blame them for it. The Enclave did what was necessary. They might not be all good, but no organisation was, and Lucian needed to understand that.

"Then what about me?"

Lucian asked another question.

Vivienne looked at him for a few seconds before answering.

"You will remain with Evelyn, after all, she did personally request you. Since she is still an important protected subject, her request cannot be easily ignored. Not to mention..."

Vivienne paused for a short moment, then she looked at Lucian and—

"The Enclave would want to observe the Contract formed between the two of you."

Lucian nodded in understanding.

He could see that happening as well.

So he would basically remain as Evelyn’s guard just so the Enclave could keep an eye on the two of them.

"Should I... hide anything?"

He asked carefully.

Vivienne stopped walking for a short moment, then, she looked directly into Lucian’s eyes.

"Do not be a fool."

Lucian blinked at that sudden reaction.

"You are not clever enough to deceive the Enclave."

"...That’s a little rude."

He pouted.

Vivienne ignored him.

"You are even less capable of deceiving the demons.

So stop thinking about hiding things.

Focus on becoming stronger.

Nothing else matters."

Lucian stayed silent.

Vivienne continued to stare at him and then—

"If something goes wrong, I will handle it."

And those words made Lucian smile.

"You really spoil your students, huh."

"I really break their bones too."

"I already know that."

Lucian shrugged.

Vivienne just snorted and started walking. Lucian followed her with a smile. For a while, neither of them spoke again, then, Lucian thought of another thing.

"Teacher."

"What."

"...Who was Lyudmila Pavlichenko?"

This time, Vivienne did not stop, however, Lucian could sense something in the air change when he took that name.

"Do not concern yourself with matters that do not concern you."

Lucian stayed silent for a few seconds, then—

"...understood."

He did not ask another question.

The two continued walking through the quiet halls of the Enclave. By the time they reached the upper levels, it was already close to three in the morning. Evelyn was asleep, the Enclave, however, was still wide awake.

Hunters walked through the corridors carrying reports, Researchers pushed carts filled with strange artifacts, Healers moved between treatment rooms, Engineers worked on damaged equipment.

Somewhere in the distance, Lucian heard metal striking metal from the training halls.

Lucian quietly watched everything around him.

This place truly never slept.

He thought inwardly, then, he smiled—

"Teacher, we finally have some free time."

Vivienne looked at him.

"Train me."

"No."

"No?"

Lucian frowned.

"Sleep."

"I am not tired. My reserves are—"

"Sleep."

Vivienne repeated herself and Lucian—

He nodded.

Whatever he was with others, when Vivienne said something, he listened. This was his way of respecting the person who trained him and stood by him all this while.

"And you are returning to your school tomorrow."

Vivienne ordered and Lucian blinked in surprise.

"Really?"

"The Cleaners completed their work."

Vivienne nodded.

"The studio attack has been covered as another accident. The public believes Evelyn Starling was injured, so according to them, she is resting."

"So she’ll stay here?"

"For one week.

And since no demons would dare attack her here, there is no need for you to remain here during that time."

"So..."

Lucian let out a quiet breath as he heard those words.

"I finally get to go back, huh?"

"Yes."

Vivienne nodded.

"Enjoy it while it lasts."

Lucian laughed at that.

"Will you train me tomorrow?"

He asked a more important question as he stared at Vivienne with a strong shine in his eyes.

"That is obvious."

Vivienne nodded without thinking.

"We still need to understand and work on the Form you used.

Don’t expect your legs to be healthy for the next few days and be glad that Starling will be there, you will need her."

Lucian quickly understood what Vivienne meant by those words and he—

"I expect nothing less."

He answered with a wide grin on his face.
