Chapter 141: Chapter 141: A Lot of Him Have Arrived
A gun!
This outsider has a gun!
The expression on Secret Agent Amir’s face froze. He immediately reached for his gun. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
Shen Feng casually pointed his weapon and pulled the trigger.
"PFFT..."
The silenced bullet made only a soft sound as Amir’s head instantly burst open. freewebnøvel.com
The others immediately froze, their hands stopping mid-reach for their own weapons. They didn’t dare move another inch.
What shocked the nearby guards even more was Shen Feng’s marksmanship—it was impossibly precise!
Although they had guns, bullets were an incredibly precious commodity. Many of them would go their whole lives without firing a real shot, using only models for training.
"Outsider, don’t do something you’ll regret!" Galen Seldon didn’t look particularly panicked. Instead, his expression darkened as he sat back in his chair. He looked at Shen Feng and spoke slowly, "The power of the Holy Sanctuary People is beyond your imagination! If you dare to do anything outrageous, the gunshots will alert the guards outside. There’s no way you’ll escape the Holy Sanctuary alive!"
A silenced gunshot wasn’t completely silent.
He then put on a friendly face and said:
"Did Amir humiliate you just now? Did you hold a grudge against him? If so, he had it coming. By executing him, you’ve taken your revenge. As long as you hand over your weapon now and swear an oath of fealty to the Holy Sanctuary in the name of the God of the Firmament, I am willing to let this matter go."
Hearing Galen’s words, Shen Feng was slightly surprised. ’This guy is quick-witted, cunning, and adaptable. A real piece of work. No wonder he became the leader of this Holy Sanctuary.’
’He must have changed his surname to Seldon to show his reverence for Arthur Seldon, giving his own authority a veneer of legitimacy.’
Shen Feng gave a slight smile and said:
"That’s exactly it. Mr. Amir was shouting a bit too loudly earlier. It made me uncomfortable."
Hearing this, all the Holy Sanctuary People present cursed him inwardly. ’What the fuck kind of reason is that?! It’s obvious bullshit!’
Galen, however, said with a straight face, "Amir always was arrogant and discourteous, relying on his status as a secret agent. He was crude. That was indeed his mistake."
Shen Feng let out a dry chuckle and continued:
"Actually, I was quite moved seeing the Governor eating that potato. It inspired me to share a rather... rustic song with everyone. Jingwei, music!"
Everyone present looked completely baffled, having no idea what he meant.
The moment the words left his lips, a cheerful tune rang out—the strumming of a ukulele! (a small Hawaiian guitar)
It was followed by a man’s low, teasing voice, singing in what sounded like Mandarin Chinese:
"...Since the main ingredient in a potato
Is really just some starch,
Then you shouldn’t take it
And compare its vitamin A to spinach..."
The instant the song began, Shen Feng started pulling the trigger!
Under the cover of the song and music, bullets flew from the barrel, swiftly ending the sinful lives of the Holy Sanctuary People.
Though a few men hastily raised their guns to fire back, they found that their bullets hit the black man’s body like pebbles on the surface of water—they only stirred up ripples and couldn’t harm him at all!
Their own gunshots were drowned out by the raucous music, failing to alert the Holy Sanctuary guards outside.
In fact, the melodious, cheerful music made many people pause, then become mesmerized.
Many of the Holy Sanctuary People had never heard music in their lives and simply assumed the Governor had acquired another wonderful new toy.
Only a few lines of the song had passed before all dozen or so Holy Sanctuary People in the room were shot dead.
Shen Feng whistled softly, looking at the bullet holes piercing their foreheads and eyes.
’My marksmanship seems to be getting better and better.’
’Of course, the Nanomechanical Cluster is also easy to control with precision.’
Shen Feng ejected the empty magazine, slapped in a fresh one, and checked his ammo count.
The only person left alive in the room was Galen Seldon.
Seeing his dozen subordinates slaughtered, the Governor showed no shock or anger. On the contrary, he sighed, propped his feet up on his desk, leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes, appearing to be blissfully enjoying the music.
"So this is music... The instruments from the old legends... I’ve only ever heard some of the awakened sleepers sing, but it’s nothing compared to a real instrument." Galen Seldon opened his eyes and glanced at the bodies lying in pools of blood. "Sometimes, I envy those sleepers. After all, they lived through the old era. They saw all the chaos... and the wonderf—AHH!"
He didn’t get to finish his sentence. A bullet tore through his right leg, and he collapsed to the floor, howling in agony.
Shen Feng expressionlessly blew the smoke from his gun barrel.
’What’s with the angsty, philosophical act?’
He then aimed the gun at Galen’s left leg and asked:
"Information on Arthur Seldon’s descendants?"
Galen’s face was contorted in pain. Sweat beaded on his forehead, his eyes were wide with terror. He clutched his wound with both hands and stammered:
"I... I don’t know... The Holy Sanctuary has been searching for the descendants of the God of the Firmament, too, but we’ve never found any leads..."
Shen Feng’s brow furrowed. He lifted his gun slightly and asked:
"Gray Tide Graveyard?"
Galen quickly replied:
"The Gray Tide Graveyard... yes, there were rumors about a place like that. I even sent a few expedition teams to find it. They either found nothing, or they never returned... I suspect the Gray Tide Graveyard is just a lie fabricated by the remnants of the Salvation Army..."
As he mentioned the remnants of the Salvation Army, he shot a quick, cautious glance at Shen Feng, terrified of saying the wrong thing and inviting more punishment.
Shen Feng remained silent. He stepped over Galen’s body and sat down in the large swivel chair. He mimicked Galen, propping his own feet on the desk, while resting his automatic rifle on his lap with one hand, the barrel aimed at the door. He seemed lost in thought.
’Right now, it wasn’t just about finding Arthur Seldon’s descendants and completing the mission. There was another question he desperately needed an answer to.’
’How did my counterpart in this world die?’
’If everything in this Parallel World is as similar to my own as it seems, then the cause of death for my counterpart here could very well be what’s in store for me!’
Gray Tide Graveyard.
’That place has to be the key...’
With this thought, Shen Feng pressed the muzzle of his gun to Galen’s head. At the same time, he grabbed Galen’s wounded leg and, without a change in expression, shoved a finger into the bullet hole.
"NGH..." The intense pain made Galen’s eyes bulge, tears and snot streaming down his face, but he didn’t dare let out a loud scream. He nodded frantically. "I remember! I remember now! We searched a captured Salvation Army remnant and found a piece of paper on him! It had a few words written on it, possibly the location of the Gray Tide Graveyard... Yes... southeast, Level 1765, a three-month journey..."
Shen Feng nodded. ’Figures. This guy won’t talk until he’s staring into his own coffin.’
’This captured Salvation Army member was probably the same one who went to Daisy for a divination.’
He then asked, "If the Construction Machines don’t harm you, why not go to the highest levels?"
’Logically, these so-called Holy Sanctuary People should be able to go straight to the top and bask in the sunlight, but they haven’t.’
This time, Galen was far more cooperative. He understood there was no outsmarting the young man before him, so he quickly confessed everything in detail.
Although the entire super-megastructure became more orderly the higher one went, going higher wasn’t necessarily better.
First, there were no rivers or other water sources above their current region. Second, around Level 9000, they would run into some of the most powerful humanoid Construction Machines.
Except for their joints and a few other parts, these Construction Machines looked remarkably human, to the point that some were difficult to tell apart.
The crucial difference was that, unlike the machines in the lower regions, these Construction Machines would attack the Holy Sanctuary People!
They attacked anyone on sight, and modern human weaponry was completely useless against them.
Galen even suspected it was these ultimate Construction Machines that had destroyed the old world.
The Holy Sanctuary People had once sent several confident expeditions to try and subdue these machines, but every member had been brutally slaughtered.
Level 9000 was also called the Celestial Prison by the Holy Sanctuary People.
Below Level 2000 lay Hell, and above Level 9000 was the Celestial Prison. The space between was the mortal realm, fit for human survival—all of it a blessing from the God of the Firmament.
This was the worldview of the Holy Sanctuary People.
The song had finished. Shen Feng continued to ask, "How long has it been since the Gray Tide outbreak?"
Galen flinched and answered hastily, "You mean since the birth of the new world? According to Holy Sanctuary records, it’s been about eighty to a hundred years..."
Shen Feng nodded. That time frame made sense.
’Now, that Celestial Prison sounded quite interesting.’
’Celestial Prison, Hell, the mortal realm, a Divine Spirit, and the otherworldly Gray Tide Graveyard... it all felt like a badly written myth.’
’There’s probably nothing else of value in this so-called Holy Sanctuary. I’ll have to find more clues outside.’
’Maybe I should take this Galen fellow with me. See if his DNA is of any use.’
Just as Shen Feng was thinking this, the office door was flung open. A guard rushed in and yelled:
"Reporting to the Governor, there’s a—What the hell is going on!?"
Seeing the office had become a Chaotic Scene, with the other guards lying dead on the spot, this guard immediately went for his gun.
"Don’t move!" Galen snapped, stopping the guard. The gun was still pressed against his head. He managed to muster some of his authority as Governor. "What are you panicking about!? What’s wrong?"
The guard looked up at the large, gun-toting black man, then back at Galen, his face a mask of utter confusion.
He then raised a hand to point at Shen Feng, his expression one of utter disbelief as he stammered:
"It’s him... lots of him... Lots of him are coming!"
At the same time, panicked screams erupted from outside, punctuated by scattered gunshots and cries of agony!
