Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Ruthless Imperial Guard

A moment later, the door to the medicine room also flew open. A figure was slammed inside, clutching something in his chest. His arm already appeared bloodied.

Ye Lanxi.

"You still want to be stubborn?" The imperial guard yelled. He walked into the room in slow steps as though he already had the situation under control.

His lips curled up into a mocking smile. "It turns out, the second son of the Ye family is so weak."

After he took a few steps inside, he stopped. He raised his head, witnessing two more of the Ye siblings in the room. He clapped his hands. "The Ye family is unwilling to accept the imperial decree? Do you think that His Majesty has wronged you?!"

Ye Lingyue rolled her eyes inwardly. It was obvious that this imperial guard was trying to abuse his power, acting so arrogantly.

She glanced at Ye Lingrui.

Perhaps he was the only person who could accept his twin sister’s sudden recovery. For the other members of the Ye family, she was planning to take it slow.

Seeing the look in her eyes which was urging him to act, Ye Lingrui raised his brows and then turned to the arrogant imperial guard.

"As an imperial guard, you can’t make such a baseless accusation," Ye Lingrui said. His voice was powerful despite his gentle tone. "What have we done wrong, Imperial Guard?"

It was the imperial guard’s first time joining in such an operation to confiscate a noble family’s household and send them to exile.

He was still young, and during his few years as an imperial guard, he had already grown used to these nobles’ lack of regard for them. Some of them would use their family’s power to make things difficult for him.

Although they usually didn’t dare to be excessive because of the Emperor’s power behind him, the latter’s protection over imperial guards was only so much.

These noble families could easily find fault with him or retaliate by underhanded methods.

Now, facing a fallen noble household, it was as if he had found an outlet to channel his years full of grievances from the nobles. He became more ruthless, more arrogant and found fault at every turn.

"You two are sneaking to this room," the imperial guard sneered. "There is no guard who is keeping watch over the two of you. What else is it if you are not going to sneak some valuables?"

Ye Lingrui tilted his head, motioning to the medicine boxes. "You can check them yourself, Imperial Guard. Which valuables have we taken?"

He was quick enough to grab some random pile of cheap medicinal herbs close to him. Now, it was on the table near him.

On the floor, Ye Lanxi was breathing heavily, struggling to get up.

The imperial guard saw that it was some pile of useless grass, so he scrunched his face and no longer said anything. Until he noticed Ye Lanxi on the floor.

Ye Lingyue glanced at Ye Lanxi with some puzzlement. It was just a little over one hour; why has he become so weak? He couldn’t even deal with a single imperial guard.

"Look at him. You two are of the same breed," the imperial guard continued, his voice full of mockery. "He was planning to hide some jewelries on his robes. Who knows if you are going to do the same?"

The imperial guard walked over to Ye Lanxi, who was now supporting himself with one hand, and then, he grabbed whatever the second son of the Ye family was holding.

Ye Lingyue became slightly irritated. She already jumped forward before she knew it, completely acting foolish.

She headed toward Ye Lanxi and shouted, "Second brother!"

A moment later, the imperial guard collapsed to the floor, and the white powder scattered into the air before disappearing without trace.

Some of the powder got into Ye Lanxi, and it wasn’t long before he appeared slightly dazed.

Ye Lingyue glanced at her twin brother, finding him already walking over. Ye Lingrui pulled Ye Lanxi from the floor. Worried he might tear the wounds further, Ye Lingyue took the other side of Ye Lanxi’s arm.

Now, they could inspect the wounds better.

There were some lacerations on Ye Lanxi’s arms, chest, and feet. Some wounds seemed to be deep.

All of a sudden, Ye Lingyue let go of her hold. "Stay here for a moment."

She went to a few medicine boxes, opening them in a hurry. By the time she returned, the few dried herbs in her hands were already crushed.

"Yue’er, where did you learn medicine?" Ye Lingrui asked, staring at Ye Lingyue applying the dried herbs on Ye Lanxi’s wounds.

Ye Lingyue almost couldn’t hold back from rolling her eyes. She sighed. "Let’s get moving. That imperial guard will be awake soon."

As they exited the medicine room, Ye Lingyue secretly examined Ye Lanxi’s wounds. She had stuffed the jewelry box in his hand at Ye Lingrui’s.

The more she examined the wounds, the deeper her frown became. Those were definitely caused by sharp weapons. It was impossible for the servants to do this, so...

She pursed her lips. These imperial guards were definitely ruthless, still had the time to kick them while the Ye family was down. Not all imperial guards were as kind as the one who had watched over her room.

Her eyes narrowed.

These imperial guards were definitely going to be the ones who would escort them to the land they were exiled to, and she would have plenty of chances to deal with them.

"Third Brother, give me that box," Ye Lingyue suddenly said.

Ye Lingrui handed over the box to her, his expression indescribable.

She looked away, and then coughed softly. With her free arm, she pointed to the rows of carriage in front of the Ye family’s mansion. "Third Brother, look at that!"

He turned to the direction she was pointing at, and then his gaze landed on her again.

Right at the moment when the jewelry box in her hand disappeared.
