Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Feeding the Twins
Ye Lingyue’s pupils constricted, and she stared at him in shock as if asking him, ’is he really your brother?’
But, wait...
"Why did you give him sleeping powder?" She asked cautiously. "What if he doesn’t wake up in time?"
She couldn’t help but size up Ye Lingrui again. Although he didn’t seem remarkable at a glance; he didn’t seem to have a big ambition to obtain a position in the court like other noble sons, he truly hid himself deeply.
"Naturally because Yue’er wants to go out." Ye Lingrui shrugged as though it was the most natural thing. "Don’t worry, the sleeping powder is absolutely safe."
His first sentence made her fall into a trance, and the second sentence completely woke her up. "How do you know it’s safe?"
"I made it," he readily replied, not even bothering to hide it.
Ye Lingyue already had some guesses, and she was surprised when she heard his words. He readily admitted it when she was prepared to do some interrogation on him.
"Can you show me?" She asked. A hint of cunning flashed in her eyes.
Ye Lingrui’s answer was immediate. He shook his head. "No."
Her shoulders dropped like a kitten who was denied dried fish. She pursed her lips and asked unhappily. "Why?"
"You will use it on me," he said frankly, exposing the wicked plan in her head.
She coughed and waved her hand, trying to deny the obvious. "How can that be..."
"Let’s just go back. The twins must have been starving," she muttered, changing the topic. With that, she quickened her pace.
Ye Lingrui followed, and because of his long legs, he caught up with her pace in no time. She glanced at him, her eyelids twitched. Letting out a hum, she quickened her pace.
The siblings arrived at the exile party’s camping site in no time.
Ye Lingyue hurriedly stopped her brother, and she scanned the surroundings, dragging him down toward the nearest bushes. She had put the oil lamp back into her space and it was mostly dark.
Only faint light illuminated their hiding place. Most people wouldn’t know they were even there.
She picked up a few pebbles from the ground and jumped to the tree nimble, a lithe as a monkey. Thanks to her effort, she started to gain her previous body’s agility and flexibility.
With her basics already there, she only needed to train this body according to her standard.
"Ouch! Hiss..." the imperial guards stationing near their carriage let out pained yelp as small pebbles hit the places where they hurt the most.
Ye Lingyue’s marksmanship was excellent.
She made a low, faint voice of a woman’s laughter, and then disappeared from the tree, dragging her brother a little far.
The imperial guards went to check, and their faces became as white as a sheet of paper. They found nothing!
Ye Lingrui copied his twin’s action, picking pebbles from the ground and throwing them to tree branches. It created rustling sounds.
The imperial guards heard the sound and jolted, nearly hugging each other in fright. One of them lifted their oil lamp, trying to see what kind of animal it was above there.
Soon, they glanced at each other and scrambled away, trying to distance themselves from that spot. "I... if... we can keep watch over... the carriage from here."
Ye Lingyue turned to her brother in surprise with a hint of appreciation. Good! He can be taught!
She stood up and held out her hand for him. Ye Lingrui took it, and he was a little surprised by the force of her hand. She was quite strong.
During the time she sneaked out, Ye Lingyue didn’t forget practicing her martial arts. She didn’t allow herself to slack off. In order to regain her previous power in this new body, she already created a schedule for herself.
In the morning, she would walk. If possible, she would get a few hours of sleep during noon then walk again in the afternoon. In the night, she slept again and woke up to slip away from the camp site.
"Let’s go to the carriage. Don’t make too much noise," she muttered.
She was experienced at this, and hence, she could drag Ye Lingrui easily to the carriage. Once they were inside, she opened the leaves package and put them near the twins’ nose.
The smell was still quite strong. The twins’ nose twitched slightly, sniffing the air. Their stomach rumbled.
Ye Lingyue resisted the urge to laugh, and wait for the twins to wake up. She already knew they were a pair of gluttonous munchkins.
Ye Shaoyin opened her eyes first, and she rubbed her eyes, thinking she was dreaming. She shook her brother’s shoulder. "Brother, I think I see delicious-looking meat... am I dreaming?"
The force made Ye Shaoqin open his eyes, and he blinked, still feeling a little dazed from sleep.
He also smelled it. Compared to his sister, he seemed to be much calmer. He saw who was holding the food and greeted her. "Sister Lingyue."
Ye Shaoyin was already swallowing her saliva. Her hand reached out, wanting to take a taste of the sauce, but Ye Shaoqin stopped her and shook his head.
"This is for you two," Ye Lingyue told them, already understanding their worries.
"Really?" Ye Shaoyin exclaimed.
Ye Lingyue immediately shushed her. "Eat quietly, alright? If the imperial guards know we eat such delicious food, they will be jealous and snatch it."
The twins nodded obediently. They began to eat their food. Seeing Ye Lingyue merely sitting quietly, Ye Shaoqin didn’t forget to offer some to her.
"These are all for you. I have already eaten." Ye Lingyue shook her head.
They proceeded to offer it to Ye Lingrui, who said similar things with Ye Lingyue.
Then, there was a scene where a pair of twins were taking care of another pair of twins.
For the next day, the imperial guards still gave them a small amount of food. Ye Lingyue and Ye Lingrui went to catch some wild game again.
After they returned, they had just gotten inside the carriage when a pair of clear eyes stared at them.
"Yue’er, Rui’er, where have you two been?"
