Chapter 222: Meeting Wayo.

There was no screaming alarm clock in the morning. Sienna had turned it off because her days of waking early to rush to the city had ended. She did not even need to take a trip to the hospital to visit the plague refugees. The vaccine had already yesterday in the night, by now, the people were safe in the knowledge of promised good health and relaxed.

Without the pressure, she slept in, opening her eyes at 9:40 A.M, because of a persistent knock on the door. Rubbing her eyes like a child, she dragged her feet to the door and opened it. "What?" She groaned.

"You are awake, great." Mija said, typing into her phone continuously. Her long nails made loud taps on the screen that irritated Sienna. "We have an issue, a woman holding 8 people hostage, demanding to see you so that you make a decision for her. Get dressed."

Sienna yawned loudly. "It’s one woman, can’t they call the enforcers?"

Mija looked up, judging her friend. "It’s practically 10, you can’t sleep forever. Timothy has sent me information on the family. The woman was a regular visitor to the women’s shelter operated by our office. She applied to court directly for a divorce once but her husband claimed mental instability and brought all the proof of how he had cared for her properly over the years. He brought a doctor that testified for him. A judge assumed she was having an episode, and she would regret the divorce when she came back to her senses.

Two months ago, she decided to go through the office of women and cub affairs to get a divorce. With their recommendation and findings, a court would grant her one immediately. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Cadelaria has not responded to her. I called her assistant Cary and she said they have a lot of files. Mrs. Wit’s file was not even close to being reviewed. I guess she has run out of patience and decided that if the office would not see her, she would bring the boss of the office to her doorstep."

Sienna rolled her neck, saying through another yawn, "Why do I have a feeling that the only reason why the queen wanted me in this position is to make me clean up Cadelaria’s messes?"

"Now you know why you got the expensive wall." Mija sniggered.

Sienna shut the door with a thud in Mija’s face. She still couldn’t shut out the scream of ’hurry.’ And indeed, she hurried through a bath and threw on a pair of thick cotton leggings and blue floral dress. On top, she added a long white, fur coat Elias had brought her from his trip.

It was one of ten gifts she had not opened.

The cubs went off to harvest blueberries and make jam with her grandparents, while she was flown off to a prosperous district of Merde. It was a lively dwelling named after the priestess who died there, saving other foxes from the invasion of the mer tribe many years ago. She loved to plait her three tails with flowers. This inspired the giant golden fox beast woman statue at the entrance of a three tailed fox, whose tails were twisted and decorated with flowers. On her head was a floral crown.

"This is where all the salt used in this city comes from." Mija noted.

Sienna looked away from the statue. "The economy is good, the buildings are old but stable. Every shop sells lanterns, fox tail charms, silk. Lots of restaurants and tourists. I think we should open a branch of my cookware here."

Mija hissed. "I was hoping you would say that. I have already contacted a real estate company to find us the best location. This place is the hub of chaotic, spicy food. Even the king sneaks here when he wants to indulge. They have cheap beer too, but the taste is okay. It sells well on the open markets."

While Mija explained the secrets of Merde, as if she lived there, Sienna mind traveled to the woman she had been forced to come and see. What has driven her to this point? Was she truly mentally disturbed? Why hadn’t her husband sent her to a hospital for long term care if he loved her so much?

Those were some of the questions she still had on her mind when they arrived at the building which was teaming which was teaming with tricksters and street entertainers outside. Enforcers were already there, led by Captain Wayo.

Most of the foxes had voted for the black panther to be given the job. The elders had underestimated how beloved and respected he was.

Immediately, Sienna was taken to see him. He was a tall, olive skinned beast man with broad shoulders and the shiniest dark hair she had ever seen. His skin had a radiant luster, as if he bathed in moonlight, crushed with pearls, and never stepped into the sun. "Wow!"

Wayo grimaced. "Not you too, Lady Sienna. No, I don’t have a skin routine and you can’t touch and feel how smooth it is."

Sienna’s nostrils twitched. The man smelled....different. There was a calming, enticing fragrance that drifted around him, something between baby powder and vanilla. It was soft, warm, and oddly comforting, like childhood memories wrapped in a warm embrace.

Wayo took a step back, suspicion lingering in his light grey eyes. "I don’t do hugs. Even if I did, I would not hug you. Elias knows my scent. One whiff and he will bite off my head."

Mija stepped forward. She slapped her personal information to Wayo’s chest and hissed, "I on the other hand, am not married to Elias or any other man and I would love to be hugged."

Wayo shuddered, craning his neck back, as far away from her forked tongue as he could.

Sienna pulled her friend back, "People are watching. Let’s see what this is about, and then you can seduce the black panther."
