Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Soldier Boy Beats Up the Ice Man
A few hours earlier.
On a street in the bustling center of New York City, massive ice spikes jutted from the wide road everywhere.
All that ice had dragged the temperature in the air down sharply.
"Ah! Help! My leg..."
A shrill scream echoed through the empty street.
Several New York police cars lay scattered across the road, their surfaces coated in thick white frost.
Beside the patrol cars, more than a dozen officers had been brutally pierced through the thighs, shoulders, and even stomachs by thick spikes of ice.
They were pinned to the ground and the walls, left with no choice but to slowly bleed out and freeze to death.
Standing in the middle of the street was a man in a tattered hoodie.
His eyes had rolled back until only the whites showed, the muscles in his face twitching with manic excitement as his hands waved wildly in every direction.
Right now, this supervillain looked like an escaped lunatic completely out of control.
With every movement, rows of ice spikes formed out of thin air and shot indiscriminately in all directions.
Not far away, in the rubble.
"Cough... cough..."
Starlight, dressed in her gold-and-white uniform, coughed in pain.
Her once-bright costume was now torn and ragged, and her arms and forehead were covered in scrapes.
Starlight had only just woken up from the violent impact. She stared at the scene in front of her in despair.
Her power was absorbing electricity and releasing it as high-intensity beams. It could be very strong, but it could also be pretty average, and right now, in broad daylight, there weren’t exactly many lights nearby.
During the few minutes she had been unconscious, two more armored vehicles packed with SWAT officers had charged into the street, trying to pin down the Ice Supervillain with heavy-caliber rifles.
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!!"
A dense barrage of bullets struck the supervillain’s body.
The supervillain turned his head. He did not dodge. A thick layer of ice armor covered his entire body.
The bullets hit it and only knocked loose a few useless sprays of ice chips.
"Die! I’ll freeze every last one of you into ice sculptures!"
He lifted both hands at once.
A dozen ice spears burst straight up from under the SWAT officers’ feet, piercing through their chins and skulls from below like meat on skewers.
Brain matter mixed with blood froze into ice in midair.
The scene instantly became a one-sided slaughterhouse.
"No! Stop!"
Seeing the officers being butchered so cruelly, Starlight was furious. She charged at the supervillain again.
The hooded man swung his hand back hard.
The next instant, a massive wall of ice erupted from the ground and slammed straight into Starlight.
With a muffled groan, Starlight was sent flying again.
"Time to end this."
The supervillain turned, planning to finish Starlight off first.
In midair, three ice spikes sharper than the ones before shot straight toward Starlight’s chest and head.
Starlight closed her eyes in despair.
But the pain she expected never came.
She quickly opened her eyes.
A dark green back was already standing in front of her.
...
Benjamin held his shield up with one hand, blocking the attack. The three ice spikes, sharp enough to punch through a tank, slammed hard into the shield and shattered into icy debris.
Technically, Benjamin’s body was tougher than the shield, but out of habit, he still blocked with the shield first.
The Ice Supervillain froze.
He watched his prized killing blow fail to even break through the other man’s defense.
Was he supposed to go around the shield and hit his body instead?
Starlight stared blankly at that broad, towering figure, and admiration instantly filled her pretty eyes.
Soldier Boy was so damn cool.
She hadn’t expected that after calling for support, the company would send Soldier Boy instead of another member of The Seven.
At that moment, far beyond the police cordon, many civilians and reporters hiding inside buildings, trembling as they secretly filmed with their phones, saw the scene clearly as well.
An earth-shaking cheer erupted from the crowd.
"Oh my God! It’s Soldier Boy! He’s here!"
"A real hero! Look at that shield!"
"Soldier Boy versus Ice Man! Now this is gonna be good!"
"How long do you think that ice-slinging psycho can last against Soldier Boy?"
"I say at least a few minutes, right? That Ice Man has The Seven-level power. Didn’t you see him beating the hell out of Starlight just now? This is definitely gonna be a tough fight!"
"We didn’t get to see Soldier Boy fight those thirty-plus Supes before, but now we finally get to watch him in action!"
The crowd buzzed with excitement.
Starlight struggled up from the warped hood behind her. Looking at Benjamin’s broad back, she said gratefully, "Thank you... Soldier Boy."
"What the hell are you thanking me for? Get your ass out of the way. You wanna stay here as a punching bag and let that ice-throwing pussy beat the shit out of you again? Go drag out the cops who are still breathing. Don’t stand there getting in my fucking way!"
Starlight quickly nodded, then turned and pushed through the pain as she began dragging the surviving officers pinned to the ice toward safety.
Meanwhile, the supervillain across from them felt humiliated.
The temperature around him plunged again. He compressed all of his superpower together and sent another huge, solid ice wall crashing toward Benjamin.
Benjamin did not move an inch. He took head-on the same kind of massive ice wall that had just sent Starlight flying.
Under the Ice Supervillain’s terrified gaze, Benjamin smashed through the ice wall with ease and appeared right in front of him.
To Benjamin, those ice walls were as fragile as paper.
Then Benjamin’s fist, as big as a sandbag, slammed squarely into the hooded man’s chest.
This was Lv6 strength.
"Boom!!!"
The supervillain was sent flying instantly.
He spat a mouthful of blood in midair, flew more than ten meters, and crashed into a pile of rubble.
"That’s it?"
Benjamin frowned.
Almost the moment the supervillain hit the ground, Benjamin had already broken into long strides, running toward him.
To stop him from escaping, he had to get over there and beat him down before he could get back up.
In the rubble, the supervillain’s chest was deeply caved in. His organs had already ruptured, and he was coughing up mouthfuls of bloody foam, barely breathing. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
He stared in terror at the green figure jogging toward him.
Without saying a word, Benjamin stepped down and crushed the hooded man’s right hand.
Then he raised his shield and smashed it down into the hooded man’s terrified face.
"Bang!"
Maybe he felt the shield didn’t hit as hard as his fists.
Benjamin clenched his fist and started hammering the man’s forehead.
Punch after punch.
The dull sound of bone and flesh breaking echoed through the silent ruins until the body beneath him stopped twitching entirely.
Only then did Benjamin stop.
The supervillain’s head was already pulp.
Not far away, Starlight stared in shock.
She had imagined what Soldier Boy fighting would look like, but she had never expected it to be this clean and efficient.
Brutally practical, unlike her. All flash, no real punch.
"Holy fuck... that was insane..."
Starlight muttered in awe.
...
Soon, news that the battle was over spread quickly.
The police outside the perimeter finally dared to enter the scene, and the media reporters flooded into the street.
Blinding camera flashes went off in a continuous burst.
"Mr. Soldier Boy! How did you take that villain down so fast?"
"Miss Starlight, are you hurt? Is Mr. Soldier Boy your savior?"
"Can you two take a photo together?"
