Chapter 6: A Lucky Charm in an Unlucky World

All her life, Maeve had believed she was the most unlucky person in the world. She was the kind of person whose bread would always fall with the jam side down.

She was someone who could miss the bus by just one minute.

Yes, her luck was so bad that she wasn’t even surprised when she was suddenly captured by the cartel and thrown into the ocean.

However, for some reason, she suddenly could bring rain into this world?!

"I can’t believe it! It’s been so long since it rained!" one of the female aliens cried softly. "Our Goddess is truly amazing."

Maeve was about to say something, but in the end, she decided to stay quiet because she was still confused about the situation she was currently facing.

"The fire is starting to die down!" someone shouted from afar. "Leader Ikarus! I think we don’t need to leave our settlement!"

Maeve stared at the flames as they slowly weakened under the heavy rain.

The rain was so strong that even inside the cave, water still splashed in and her feet were already getting wet.

"You just arrived today, but you’ve already used your power," Ikarus suddenly said, lowering his head so he could see Maeve’s face vividly. "We truly owe you so much."

What power?!

The rain might just be a coincidence!

[Explanation: Every time someone is near Host, their luck increases by 50%]

Alright, that’s it.

Maeve was now completely convinced that everything happening to her had to be part of a long, strange dream.

Meeting blue-skinned aliens was one thing, but suddenly gaining a "lucky charm" talent? That was even more impossible than seeing a flying elephant!

[No, Host!] Pinky flew around Maeve. [You’ve been awake this whole time! This is real, Host! This is real!]

Pinky kept repeating the same words again and again until Maeve felt a headache coming. "Oh, shut up!"

The moment she said that, Ikarus and the others froze. They quickly fell silent and turned to look at her.

"Did I... talk too much?" Ikarus asked carefully, like he had just offended a goddess. "Will you take the rain back if I talked too much?" ƒreewebɳovel.com

Maeve was still scared of these strange people, but seeing Ikarus look so nervous—almost like a lost puppy—made her feel a little bad for him.

"No, no, no!" Maeve said quickly. "I wasn’t talking to you! I’m just... I’m just talking to myself!"

Ikarus let out a sigh of relief, then said, "So... you won’t take the rain back?"

Maeve shook her head. "I won’t!"

She groaned in her mind, wondering why the hell she had to say something like that?!

Take the rain back? She didn’t even know how it started raining so heavily in the first place!

Maeve pressed her lips together and glanced outside the cave again.

The rain was still pouring, heavy and loud, like the sky had been waiting for this moment for a long time. The flames that once threatened to swallow the forest were now nothing more than weak, dying sparks.

Moments later, Maeve faintly saw a white-haired alien walking toward the cave. He looked weak, and his steps were uneven as he limped forward.

As soon as he stepped into the cave, his body tilted, and he almost fell.

"Axan!" Ikarus shouted and rushed forward, quickly catching his brother before he hit the ground.

At the same time, Maeve reacted without thinking. Even if she was just a rookie police officer, helping someone in danger was already a habit. She quickly stepped forward and tried to support Axan as well.

In the end, her attempt to help only made things worse. Now Ikarus had to hold his brother, while Axan was holding onto her.

"I-I’m fine! I’m fine, sorry!" Maeve said quickly.

She steadied herself, and the moment Axan loosened his grip, she immediately stepped back, putting some distance between them.

After making sure Maeve was alright, Ikarus quickly turned to his brother. "What happened, brother?"

Axan leaned heavily on him, using Ikarus as support as he tried to stand straight. His breathing was a little uneven.

"The shield..." Axan said, his voice low. "I tried to hold it with my Aether Energy. But without the Voryn Stones, I can’t make a shield big enough to cover the whole settlement."

His jaw tightened as he looked at Axan’s pale face. "You’ve done enough," he said, patting Axan’s shoulder. "Don’t push yourself any further."

Axan let out a weak breath, but he didn’t argue. His grip on Ikarus’s arm loosened slightly, as if even standing was starting to drain the last of his strength.

"The barrier won’t hold for long," Axan added. "Even if the fire is gone... if something else comes..."

His voice trailed off and the cave suddenly felt colder.

"Then we prepare for the worst," Ikarus said firmly.

"But—" one of the others spoke up, looking worried. "We don’t have enough energy left. And without the Voryn Stones—"

"I know," Ikarus cut him off.

His eyes briefly shifted to Maeve, then back to the group. "We’ll find another way."

Maeve hissed softly when Ikarus looked at her so deeply, as if she really was the key to their survival.

"Shut up!" Once again, Maeve accidentally said her inner thoughts out loud, startling everyone, especially Ikarus and Axan.

"Did I—"

"No!! You didn’t talk too much!" Maeve quickly cut Ikarus off before he could finish. "I... I was just talking to myself again!"

Ikarus and Axan exchanged quiet glances, because Maeve had been talking to herself quite often since she arrived in the tribe.

Fortunately, before anyone could react further to her strange behavior, someone suddenly shouted, "The fire has completely gone out! The fire has completely gone out!"
