Chapter 426: Chapter 426: Too Soft-Hearted

Goldie Thorne was about to say more, but Adrian Hawthorne shot him a look, so he kept quiet. He also placed the luggage and radio on the flatbed cart. The two pullers moved with incredible speed, yet the cart remained perfectly steady. They reached the train station in just half an hour, before the ticket check had even started.

The two men waited with them, not saying much. Goldie Thorne bought them some meat buns—three for each of them—but they only ate one apiece. They saved the rest to take home to their children.

When it was finally time to board, Adrian Hawthorne bought platform tickets for the two men so they could see them off at the platform. With their help, the five large bags were loaded onto the train with ease. The men even helped stow the bags under the bunks, handling everything meticulously.

"All set."

The two men gave a simple, honest smile and prepared to leave. Adrian Hawthorne pulled out three yuan and tried to press it into their hands, but they refused and quickly hurried off the train. Adrian pushed open the window. As the two men passed below, he called out to them, then threw the crumpled bills down. The money landed right at their feet.

’He had his own principles. He was always more generous toward the weak, especially truly honest people. He didn’t mind taking a small loss. But if anyone tried to bully him, he would never just swallow the insult. If open methods didn’t work, he’d resort to covert ones.’

Adrian Hawthorne smiled at the two men, then closed the train window. The men’s expressions were a mixture of joy and alarm. They didn’t dare to take the money and decided they’d better return and let Will decide what to do.

(On the old green-skinned trains, the windows could be opened. Many people without tickets would just climb in through them.)

The two men were honest folk. They took the three yuan and went back to report. Will listened to their story and said with a smile, "You two can split it."

"Thank you, Will!"

The two men were overjoyed. A delivery job like this usually only paid one yuan in total. Will’s friend was so generous! They each got an extra yuan—enough to buy five pounds of rice!

After the two men left, Will went upstairs to report to Mad Lord. Mad Lord was brewing kung fu tea by himself. He poured a cup for Will. "They’ve left?"

"They’re on the train. He also gave the cart pullers three yuan. The kid’s quite generous." Will downed the tea in one gulp, his tone full of admiration for Adrian Hawthorne. ’The boy handles things flawlessly, more reliably than most adults.’

Mad Lord chuckled and asked, "And the chubby girl?"

Will smiled. "The chubby girl is pretty soft-hearted."

He recounted how the chubby girl had asked the two men to carry the bags in two separate trips, and the look of pity in her eyes. The two men had given him a full report upon their return, so Will was fully briefed.

"The little girl is too soft-hearted. She’s going to suffer for it later in life."

Mad Lord shook his head, disagreeing. "This is a dog-eat-dog world. You can’t get anything done if you’re not ruthless."

"If that chubby girl were vicious and cruel, you wouldn’t like her either, Boss. I think it’s a good thing. Why should a young lady be so ruthless? Only an incompetent man can’t protect his own woman." Will had a different opinion.

Mad Lord couldn’t help but laugh. He chided, "You’re right this time. Ah, that chubby girl is really something."

"Boss, if you really like the chubby girl, why not keep her here?" Will didn’t understand. With the Boss’s power, keeping the girl would be a piece of cake.

Mad Lord sipped his tea slowly and shook his head. "That chubby girl has a father and a mother. There’s no point in keeping her here."

’Besides, it’s like a married couple. See each other once in a while and you miss them dearly. See them every day and you get sick of them. If I get bored in the future, I can just have someone fetch the chubby girl.’

"Boss, I think it’d be better if you had one of your own. How about I make arrangements for you tonight?" Will hadn’t given up. He had already scouted out more than a dozen women with big hips. As long as the Boss gave the word, he could arrange for all of them at once.

Mad Lord rolled his eyes irritably. "Keep them for yourself. Get out, get out!"

’So damn annoying. All those broads this kid arranges... He could only think of one word for them—brawny.’

’He lost all interest just looking at them. How the hell was he supposed to have a daughter with them!’
