Chapter 419: Chapter 419: A Butt Beaten into Four Pieces
"Frederick, the factory manager is looking for you! Hurry up!"
A voice shouted from the other end of the line. Tang Xiaonan had just picked up the receiver and called out, "Second Uncle," when Frederick Thorne said hurriedly, "Xiaonan, be a good girl and stick with your youngest uncle and third brother. Have fun, alright? Second Uncle has to go, I’m hanging up."
Frederick Thorne said only that before hanging up. A dial tone buzzed from the receiver. Tang Xiaonan blinked, looking at Jim Thorne with even more sympathy. ’This must be fate!’
Her third brother’s hide was as good as gone.
Jim Thorne himself, however, didn’t seem to care. He was only upset for a few minutes before he was back to his usual carefree self. He even comforted Tang Xiaonan, "Don’t worry. I’m thick-skinned. It won’t even hurt!"
"You guys didn’t tell your family the truth?" Adrian Hawthorne sensed something was off. ’So they’d snuck out behind everyone’s backs?’
Jim Thorne shot him a sidelong glance and retorted irritably, "If I’d told the truth, do you think my parents would’ve let us go?"
"So what did you say?" Adrian Hawthorne asked, curious.
Jim Thorne scratched his head and said proudly, "I said I was going to stay at our grandparents’ house for a few days. Piece of cake."
Adrian Hawthorne looked at Tang Xiaonan. "Did you also say you were going to your grandparents’ house?"
Tang Xiaonan shook her head and confessed honestly, "I said my youngest uncle and Mr. Hawthorne were taking me to Tristone for a few days."
Adrian Hawthorne couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation. The nerve on these kids was unbelievable. He should have realized it sooner; there was no way Felix Thorne and his wife would agree to let Little Fatty Tang come to a place like this for fun. They had even been reluctant to let her go to Wraven.
"Don’t tell me you two snuck out behind your parents’ backs?"
Aston Marsh had caught on as well, and he stared in astonishment at the audacious brother-and-sister duo. He had two sons around their age, and while they were both mischievous hellions, they didn’t have this much gall. This pair was truly daring!
"And your youngest uncle doesn’t know?" Aston Marsh asked again.
Jim Thorne shook his head. "Our uncle thinks my parents know."
The thought made him angry all over again, and he muttered resentfully, "If our uncle hadn’t let it slip, my parents never would’ve found out."
Tang Xiaonan nodded along. ’Exactly.’
Adrian Hawthorne irritably tapped her on the head. "And you think you’re in the right? Uncle Goldie is definitely going to get it from Uncle Felix when he gets back."
And as for Jim Thorne, that big oaf, he would probably have it even worse than Goldie. Adrian glanced at the guy’s rear with sympathy, but inwardly, he was actually looking forward to it.
Tang Xiaonan puffed out her chest and declared, "I’ll protect my uncle and my third brother."
’When the time came, she’d just stand in front of Jim Thorne and Goldie Thorne. Anyone who wanted to punish them would have to go through her first. She was, after all, the ever-loyal Tang Xiaonan.’
Jim Thorne sniffled, touched. ’My little sister is the best.’
"You two have some serious nerve. It’s no wonder your parents are angry. When you get back, make sure you apologize properly. In the future, if you want to go somewhere, just say so clearly. Don’t ever sneak out again; you’ll make your parents worry sick."
Aston Marsh continued his earnest lecture, but in truth, he understood the two kids. He had often snuck out to play as a child, only to be held down and spanked by his parents upon his return. Now that he was a father himself, he could finally understand how his own parents must have felt back then. A mother always worries when her child travels far from home, and Capria was a long, long way from Vessaria. The siblings’ parents must be worried sick.
Tang Xiaonan nodded obediently. ’She would definitely have to soothe her parents’ feelings when she got back. She knew she was in the wrong this time, but she had just been so desperate to get out.’
Aston Marsh took them to a nearby restaurant and ordered a huge spread of food. Jim Thorne ate with gusto, completely unfazed. A beating was inevitable when he got back, so he might as well eat to his heart’s content.
"Mr. Marsh, what kind of person is this ’Madman’?" Adrian Hawthorne asked.
