Chapter 68: Chapter 68; Second Madam

Silence settled heavily afterward. Then slowly, Second Madam looked back toward the map again. "And the Lu family?"

Chairman Su’s gaze darkened slightly. "They’re already destabilizing faster than expected." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"The women complicated things."

"No." He lowered his hand against the map calmly. "Su Wan complicated things."

The room fell silent once more. Because neither of them sounded irritated by her anymore. They sounded cautious.

Chairman Su finally stepped toward the desk again before pulling open one of the lower drawers hidden beneath the strange skin map. Bundles of cash sat inside. Neatly sealed. Stacked tightly beneath black waterproof wrapping. Even Li Chen’s expression shifted faintly from the darkness. That amount alone could move entire operations quietly without leaving electronic traces.

Second Madam barely looked surprised. "How much?"

"Enough to stabilize the western routes temporarily," Chairman Su replied evenly as he lifted several stacks and placed them into a dark leather case beside the desk. The heavy sound of compressed cash settling into the case echoed faintly through the room.

Second Madam stepped closer afterward. "What about the offshore replacements?"

Chairman Su closed the drawer calmly. "We delay transfers until the internal leak is identified." His gaze darkened slightly. "No more electronic movement for now." That alone confirmed how serious the breach had become.

Second Madam took the case from the desk without another word. Then finally her attention shifted once more toward the strange skin map spread beneath the dim moonlight. "We still need the mine."

Chairman Su’s eyes lowered toward the markings quietly. "We need the watch first."

Silence settled again. Then both of them turned toward the exit. The study door opened softly before closing behind them moments later. And just like that, the room fell completely silent.

For several long seconds, neither Li Chen nor Mo Chen moved from the shadows. Only after the distant footsteps faded completely down the corridor did Mo Chen finally lower the phone in his hand and end the recording. The darkness around them suddenly felt much heavier than before.

Li Chen exhaled quietly. "Drugs. Political control. Illegal reserves. Hidden mines." His gaze shifted toward the closed door. "What exactly are these people building?"

Mo Chen didn’t answer immediately. Because his attention remained fixed on the strange skin map still spread across the desk. The thing had been important enough for both Chairman Su and Second Madam to discuss repeatedly. Important enough for people to die over a watch connected to it. And important enough that Chairman Su kept it inside his private study instead of hidden elsewhere. That alone made the decision obvious.

"We’re taking it."

Li Chen looked toward him instantly. "The entire map?" freeweɓnøvel.com

"Yes." There was no hesitation in Mo Chen’s voice now.

Quickly afterward, both men moved through the study again. Photographs were taken silently across the political files, offshore structures, drug shipment routes, judicial payment records, and corporate suppression agreements. Every critical document was copied rapidly before being restored carefully back into position. But the skin map—that disappeared entirely. Mo Chen rolled the strange material carefully before securing it inside a protective black storage tube from the study shelf nearby.

Then finally they left. The mansion remained silent during their escape. Neither guards nor surveillance systems noticed the two shadows slipping back across the estate perimeter beneath the darkness. Within minutes, the unmarked black van hidden several streets away had already disappeared into the sleeping city.

But the night still wasn’t over.

Inside the moving vehicle, Li Chen drove quietly while Mo Chen reviewed the recording through headphones once more. Then his eyes lifted toward the road ahead. "She’s leaving the estate now."

Li Chen’s expression cooled instantly. Second Madam’s convoy had just exited the private eastern district roads heading back toward the Lu Residence. One vehicle. Minimal escort. Probably because she believed the hidden cash inside the leather case was safer traveling quietly. A mistake.

The black van’s headlights remained off as Li Chen turned sharply into the lower industrial route cutting parallel beneath the hillside road. The city around them had grown emptier now. Colder. Perfect.

Several minutes later, headlights appeared ahead. Second Madam’s vehicle. Li Chen’s grip tightened slightly around the wheel. "Ready?"

Mo Chen loaded the suppressor calmly onto the handgun before lowering it again. "Just the money," he said quietly. "No unnecessary complications."

The van accelerated suddenly. Tires screeched violently against the wet road as Li Chen slammed directly across the narrow mountain lane ahead of the approaching sedan. Brakes screamed sharply through the darkness. Second Madam’s driver cursed and swerved violently—too late. The sedan clipped the side barrier hard enough to jolt the entire vehicle sideways before stopping abruptly across the road.

Everything afterward happened fast. Mo Chen exited first. Masked. Silent. The driver barely reacted before being dragged from the vehicle and slammed unconscious against the side railing. Second Madam stepped out instantly from the rear passenger side, fury flashing across her face. "You—"

Mo Chen grabbed the leather case before she could finish. Second Madam’s eyes widened immediately. Not fear. Recognition. Because whoever attacked tonight knew exactly what they were targeting.

Li Chen stepped forward beside the van while the cold night wind whipped sharply across the mountain road. Neither man spoke. Neither gave her faces. And somehow that made it worse.

Second Madam’s expression darkened violently as the case disappeared into the van. "You have no idea who you’re interfering with."

Mo Chen finally looked at her once before stepping backward toward the vehicle again. "No," he said quietly. "You don’t."

Then the van doors slammed shut. Seconds later, the black vehicle disappeared into the darkness, leaving Second Madam stranded beside the damaged roadside sedan beneath the cold midnight wind.

And by the time the Lu Residence security system finally registered her delayed return, Li Chen and Mo Chen had already driven back through the private western entrance of the estate carrying the stolen cash, the political recordings, the classified files, and the skin map Chairman Su had spent years protecting.
