Chapter 453: Chapter 453: Following

"It’s best not to have any more ties. Just treat these few days like air. You’ve already sent the things out, and going back to get them, coming and going, the relationship will just get harder to clarify."

The items were never retrieved, as Yi Roujing had stopped it. However, the interactions between them decreased. Unless the Wang Family Sisters came knocking, Yi Roujing and Ding Anmin never approached them proactively.

The return to Jing City was later than planned. All the purchased tickets were refunded, and they decided to wait until things were settled before considering going back.

Staying in the guesthouse wasn’t a solution, and after five days, Yi Roujing and her group prepared to return to the farm. Everyone else had been picked up by family, except for the accompanying Ning Jingyuan and the Wang Family Sisters.

"Roujing, are you leaving?" Wang Manjing knocked on the door of Yi Roujing’s room with the support of Wang Mancao.

Inviting them in to sit down, Yi Roujing nodded, "We’ve been out for quite a while. It’s time to go back, and school is starting soon."

"Then, what about the two of us?" Wang Manjing suddenly had tears in her eyes, and Wang Mancao also lowered her head, looking very downcast.

Yi Roujing found it somewhat amusing. "The police have already found your great-aunt’s home. They’ll send you back, so you don’t need to worry."

The Wang Family Sisters were full of lies, and Yi Roujing had no intention of exposing them. These were things they had said, so she went along with their narrative.

Wang Manjing’s face stiffened at the words, a look of worry spread across her face. "It’s laughable indeed, Roujing, but my great-aunt’s family really isn’t well-off. My sister and I would just be a burden to them."

"So, are you planning to go back to your hometown?" Yi Roujing said, feigning ignorance. "Don’t worry, the police will take you to the train back home too. There will be someone waiting on the other end, and the police will make proper arrangements."

Wang Manjing bit her lip, a flash of anger crossing her eyes.

"Roujing, can we go with you?" Wang Mancao suddenly looked up, her big eyes pleadingly fixed on Yi Roujing.

"You want to go to Jing City too?" Yi Roujing asked, "Do you have relatives there?"

Wang Mancao hesitated at the question, then shook her head before resolutely saying, "Roujing, my sister and I are very capable, we can do any kind of work. Can we stay by your side?"

"But we really don’t have any work we need you for." Yi Roujing spread her hands helplessly, "There are no farm chores, and housework is already shared."

"Then, can you find a job for my sister?" Wang Mancao said, "If Ancheng can help those traffickers with their livelihood, surely he can help us victims too."

"He can, but why should he?" Yi Roujing didn’t want to indulge them anymore, her eyes fixed on the Wang Family Sisters. "The trouble Anmin and I faced was because of you, Mancao. You deceived us. It’s already good that we’re not seeking revenge. Our magnanimity doesn’t stretch to repaying evil with kindness."

"Besides, the fact that you’re safe today is, to be honest, thanks to us."

"Then we’ll repay you by doing anything you ask." Wang Manjing immediately responded. "We’ll handle all the chores, everything, as long as we can get a meal from you."

"I’ve said it before, we don’t need that." Yi Roujing sighed, "Let’s just be frank. We know all about the things you two have done, not the self-serving stories you tell. It’s not difficult for us to investigate if we want to. Do you think you’re trustworthy enough for people to want to associate with you?"

Wang Manjing’s face changed, and Wang Mancao’s eyes flashed with malice, which scared Yi Roujing a little. These sisters were truly like poisonous snakes, ready to bite at any moment.

Though it wasn’t to the point of tearing faces, the façade between them was stripped away, and the Wang Family Sisters left without saying more.

Yi Roujing immediately went to Ding Anmin’s room, "Keep a close watch on the children today and tomorrow. I just have a bad feeling. I’ll talk to Lishu as well; they have two kids too."

"Let’s have all the kids sleep in one room tonight," Ding Anmin suggested. "We can take turns watching over them. I don’t mind not sleeping."

When it involves children, Ding Anmin became unsettled, "Sister-in-law, do you think the Wang Family Sisters are up to something again?"

"Just in case. A healthy level of distrust is necessary, especially with them." Yi Roujing remembered the look in Wang Mancao’s eyes, even though she was so young.

When Xu Ancheng returned, Yi Roujing told him about this, and he agreed with Ding Anmin’s suggestion of having the kids stay in the same room. Moreover, he visited each room and reminded everyone.

The Wang Family Sisters really had disgraceful ideas.

"Sis, no matter which guy you latch onto, we won’t have to worry about our future." Wang Mancao said to Wang Manjing. If Yi Roujing heard this, she would likely be shocked by such pimp-like remarks.

"Xu Ancheng is the best," Wang Manjing had been dazzled by Xu Ancheng when he appeared and was now tempted by his capabilities and family background.

"Xu Ancheng isn’t suitable, he’s married with kids, and he’s not someone to mess with," Wang Mancao analyzed, "Even if you did have something with him, you’d at most be a mistress."

"Besides, it seems even being a mistress would be hard; he wouldn’t be interested in you."

"The best is to find someone unmarried. If things blow up, he’d have to marry you for the sake of his reputation."

"Who’s going to want me with this broken body?" Wang Manjing laughed, "I used to think I was good-looking, but look at Yi Roujing and them, I’m not even close to their level."

Wang Manjing honestly didn’t plan to latch onto someone this time; she just hoped to follow them to Jing City, find a job, and if lucky, maybe marry someone, even a divorced man.

"Mancao, let’s not be too ambitious, it’s better to live a stable life. Big sister will support your studies," Wang Manjing said, patting Wang Mancao’s head.

Wang Mancao felt a pang in her heart. Who was to blame for her situation now? Family, first the parents, then the sister, none were of any use. "Even if we want a stable life in Jing City, people have to want to take us."

"Forget it, I’ll find a way. Can you please someone?" Wang Mancao asked Wang Manjing.

Wang Manjing blushed deeply, and said she might be willing, despite any purpose, "But I’m scared, what if, what if..."

"There’s no what if."

In the dark of night, Wang Mancao sobbed as she approached Jiang Bomeng, saying that her sister couldn’t wake up, asking if he could check on her.

Jiang Bomeng was the most suitable choice Wang Mancao had found, appearing carefree and not averse to either meat or vegetables.

"I’ll use the bathroom first and then go." Jiang Bomeng crossed his legs as he headed to the toilet, turning his back with a face full of disdain.

Before long, the door to the second-floor room was locked from the inside, with sounds of shame coming from within.
