Chapter 432: Chapter 432: Saving Lives
Hunting is easier to understand. Which production team arranges tasks for educated youth with so many people chopping wood? It doesn’t make sense.
"We just finished harvesting the wheat a few days ago, and there’s not much work in the fields. We thought it’d be safer to go up the mountain together as a group," He explained. "We did expect there might be snakes, so we brought realgar powder, thinking... we didn’t expect someone would actually get bitten." frёewebηovel.cѳm
He felt very guilty. Although he didn’t suggest this trip, he was the elected leader among the educated youth, and he agreed to it, so he held responsibility.
"Brother, it’s not your fault." Little He couldn’t stand seeing his brother like this. "I personally handed out the realgar powder, everyone received it, but Tang was using the restroom at the time, and I asked Huang to give her the realgar."
Little He looked directly at Huang, who stared back in shock, her freckles seemed to twitch with surprise.
"What do you mean? Are you saying I harmed Tang? Why would I do that? Besides, I gave it to him once we reached the place. You can ask Chen, I gave it to him." Huang snorted. "He would surely give it to Tang. They’re a couple."
Little He’s brows furrowed slightly upon hearing this. They had gotten to know Huang’s personality over the past two years; she was loud, occasionally selfish, which was a common trait; she just cared more about herself. Moreover, she easily became nervous and panicked when lying, which was why Little He was so blunt with his suspicion.
"Not you? Then Chen wouldn’t harm his partner, right?" Rong muttered.
"Hey, make it clear, what do you mean not me?" Huang elongated the tone of "not me" in an indignant retort.
Then she added angrily, "It wasn’t me. Even if Tang sometimes pretends to be sick, skips work, or coquettishly asks others to do her work, it doesn’t concern me. It doesn’t affect my work. Even if I dislike seeing her act like that, I wouldn’t harm her life. Do I look like a murderer?"
"I didn’t mean that," Rong got nervous from being yelled at and waved his hands repeatedly.
"Hmph." Huang turned her head and gave Rong the back of it.
"Then who was it?" Little He’s brows knit slightly. When Tang got bitten, she immediately checked her realgar powder. Though she didn’t know much about medicine, she was very familiar with the smell of realgar powder since she bought it from a Chinese medicine store herself. Although Tang’s batch looked the same, the smell was different.
"We’ll know when we get there, why worry now?" Hua Yiran said, looking at the four with some helplessness.
Ni Yanqing had an imposing aura, while Xu Ancheng had a cold demeanor, but both had an air that kept strangers at bay.
Hua Yiran was tall, brimming with vigor and seemed formidable. In contrast, Yi Roujing looked gentle and exceptionally beautiful, appearing more approachable, so more people talked to her.
"Roujing, where are you guys from? You don’t seem like villagers." Huang approached and asked Yi Roujing quietly, her tone indicating a liking for Yi Roujing.
"We’re out here during summer break to gain experience, and coincidentally, Ni’s hometown is Daihe Village." Yi Roujing didn’t answer directly, but it seemed like she did.
"Wow, I knew it. I wondered why your surname is Ni. In Daihe Village, more than half the people have that surname." Huang realized.
"When did you come to the village? Didn’t see you yesterday." Huang continued asking.
"We arrived yesterday afternoon. We’re not staying in the village; we were planning to visit in the next couple of days." Yi Roujing looked up at Ni Yanqing, clearly signaling him to answer.
"Is Ni Yaozu still in the village?" Ni Yanqing caught the signal and took over the conversation.
"Oh, you know the team leader’s son." Huang looked at Ni Yanqing differently. "When we return, maybe you could help speak on our behalf?"
There’s a rule in Daihe Village; you can go to the mountains but not the deep mountains.
"We really didn’t intend to go into the deep mountains. We only planned to look for some wild game on the outskirts of the mountains. Who knew while walking we’d end up here?" Huang said very sincerely, since it was the truth, she spoke frankly.
"Who led the way?" Ni Yanqing asked.
"Hmm?" Huang was taken aback, "We were just wandering around, no one led us..." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"Wow—" Huang’s eyes widened in anger, "Rong, you just said Chen wouldn’t harm his partner. You mentioned earlier he suggested it’s okay to go further because he’s been here before and knows the way?"
The three educated youths were awakened by Huang’s words, realizing something, but were still doubtful, mainly because Chen’s usual image and behavior were impeccable.
"We’ll see when we get there." Xu Ancheng rarely spoke, his voice cold, but his aura was captivating.
"Roujing, your husband is really good-looking, and so are you. You make a perfect pair." Huang whispered to Yi Roujing, unable to resist complimenting them.
Maybe it was because there were many people, even while walking in the deep mountains, the four educated youths weren’t that scared.
"It’s just ahead." He was especially good at remembering paths, intending to return to find Tang and Chen. However, when the group arrived, only a female comrade was found sitting against a large tree, looking pale.
"Tang!" Little He was frightened by her appearance and quickly ran over.
"Where’s Chen? Could he have gone looking for water?" Rong guessed.
"Why don’t you say he ran away?" Huang rolled her eyes.
Yi Roujing was the second to run over to Tang, taking her pulse, and then checked her thoroughly from head to toe. Confirming only the snake bite wound on her calf, she took out a first aid kit, tied a bandage above the wound, then pulled out a knife, wiped the blade with alcohol, and made two cross cuts on Tang’s calf.
After expelling the venomous blood, she sprinkled disinfectant powder on it.
"We need to go down the mountain quickly; she needs a serum injection." Yi Roujing said, her eyes turning to the dead venomous snake on the ground. "Was it this snake?"
"Yes." He nodded firmly.
"My brother feared not knowing what snake it was, so he insisted on killing it immediately." Little He explained.
"That was the right move," Yi Roujing replied. "Who will carry her?"
"I’ll do it." He was about to move when Rong stopped him.
"I’d better do it. You have someone, after all," Rong said. "Even though you’re taller, my strength is greater."
"Alright, you carry her, and when we’re close to the mountain base, Little He and I will take over," Huang understood.
