Chapter 41: New Wave
Taking a glance at the rift, something that didn’t call for any good memories. Utterly unpleasant. Moon decided not to bother himself with whoever came.
The new wave of ascenders had nothing to do with him anyway.
’Everyone will either be affiliated or dead anyway!’ He thought before turning his back on the platform entirely.
He had too much to be bothered with. ’Let’s avoid dealing with those who are either affiliated or soon to be dead.’
Yet, before long...
He felt someone running at him; he turned his head to take a look... But..
’What is this?’ He exclaimed, ’Did he peel off his skin?’ Questioning what his eyes were seeing.
The newcomer had a face that Moon couldn’t comprehend on a living being ’And what’s with that hair color?’ Nor could he comprehend the hair color he had never seen in his life.
’What’s that color even, only bruises had them?’ He thought, unable to make any sense of it.
"Oh my, someone made it before me..." The newcomer suddenly started yapping.
’Isn’t that obvious you dork?’ Moon replied inwardly.
"Hey, friend, good to see you... Are you also a new ascender... nice to meet you." The purple newcomer spoke with hands waving, smile wide from ear to ear.
’Not good nor nice, I don’t want to see that damn face of yours’ Moon turned around deciding to ignore the running purple guy.
But...
The newcomer placed his arm unceremoniously on Moon’s shoulder. "I’m Roran of the Swift Saber Clan... I can see you also are not keeping your weapon in the inventory, a true spirit of a warrior, admirable... Very admirable" Moon’s steps halted; he closed his eyes for a second.
’I’m taking back; not getting involved with these things is now impossible’ Moon took back his previous decision instantly.
’If more noisy assholes like that one will be joining, a hierarchy must be set.’ He made up his mind.
His old habits, from back when he was still a slave, were finally resurfacing.
’Excluding the staff... and that damn cat... I’ll show everyone in this branch who’s the boss here’ He was ready to act,
Moon, at first, stayed still... but his right hand slowly reached out to Liquid Mountain.
Once the hilt was secured, he squeezed it tightly, getting ready at any second...
He looked once at the arm on his shoulder, before looking at the purple newcomer.
"That precious arm of yours," Moon finally spoke, his face contorted into something that didn’t look human nor beast.
He glanced at the arm a second time "You might miss it for the rest of your life."
He unsheathed Liquid Mountain slowly and threateningly. Roran, the newcomer, took off his arm instantly "My apologies, friend! I didn’t mean to offend you..."
Moon’s face fell. "Do you think an apology settles things around here... where were you raised, brat?"
Troubled, "How do I resolve this matter? It was my mistake indeed getting over-friendly with someone, even touching them... I admit," Roran declared.
’What’s with this bastard? That’s not how this works!’ Moon felt puzzled, but that changes nothing.
"Right, your weapon is beautiful; I’ve never seen this style before." Roran focused on Liquid Mountain.
’He does have good eyes at least." Moon complimented, nodding inwardly
"You seem to know a little about blades, and I doubt that thing resting on your shoulder is for show", Moon lured.
"Indeed, my clan deals with sabers..." Roran nodded proudly.
"Then, it’s settled.. " Moon’s face relaxed, turning into a smile that wasn’t very friendly in the slightest. "Fight me; whoever wins is the boss." Moon offered.
Roran touched his chin, thinking, "Hmmm, maybe we can do that, but shouldn’t we seek teachers first?" Roran commented, "For safety reasons, I don’t want any of us to get hurt over something so minor"
Moon’s smile got wider. "HOHO, so you admit it, you might as well admit defeat"
"I didn’t mean it that way" Roran, panicking, started taking steps back gradually.
"Then get ready, we fight here and now"
"Aaah, wait" Roran was still trying to reason, but Moon has already marched with Liquid Mountain chopping the air, aimed for a strike.
Without any choice but to defend himself, Roran slid his saber back into his right hand and took a defensive stance; a faint hue gathered on the blade of his saber.
’Ah right, this brick can use Echo, but it doesn’t matter’, Moon resolved in his heart ’Starting today, there’s only Boss Moon’
Ding!
[Attention to all fresh ascenders within the Normalization Facility.]
Both Moon and Roran froze in place, less than two meter from each other, looking absentmindedly into the air, or so it seemed.
Ding!
[Any act of aggression between or against other ascenders using Weapons or Echo outside the controlled duelling system will be met with the following consequences.]
1. Weapons will be confiscated by the facility regardless of ownership, not to be returned again.
2. Personal Echo will be sealed for 3 months.
3. Future ascension rewards will undergo reduction.
’Are you messing with me now?’
Dropped on Moon’s head like a bomb, he was frozen for a moment, figuring out how to preserve his dignity after picking a fight with this purple guy.
No one was willing to risk so much over a personal stupid grudge with someone he met less than 5 minutes ago.
The penalty was severe, and the fact that he could lose Liquid Mountain, even though it was not a tower item, was still a valid risk he was unwilling to take.
While in thought, a familiar gust of wind blew once more, but he wasn’t going to bother himself with whoever arrived... He had already read and very well understood the rules.
There was no need to back down now.
’This guy would still get beat’... Thus, he opened his hand, letting go of Liquid Mountain to stab into the ground.
His hand instead clenched into a fist, falling onto the face of the handsomely painful to look at Roran.
In disbelief, he failed to react to the fist falling into his face,
Ting~
The sound of a fist hitting something metallic and heavy rang;
’Which bastard?’ Moon turned his head to look. "Which bastard is interfering now?" Moon shouted before his eyes even saw.
In front of him stood another newcomer, shorter than Moon, who was slightly shorter than Roran... But he looked more normal to Moon than the guy he was attempting to educate.
The newcomer was wearing plate armor over his chest, arms and legs... leaving the rest of his body exposed... His muscles were not huge as one would expect, but they were compact and tough-looking.... freewebnσvel.cѳm
His face was roundish, with developed features and smooth short hair flowing over his forehead.
On his shoulder guard, he had the emblem of an axe and hammer overlaid over one another.
He seemed to be frozen for a while after his throw; Moon guessed it was probably the same warning... ’So he only got it now?’
"Ahh, Dorbish," Roran called the newcomer, eyes full of happiness.
"You arrived first, and now you’re causing trouble," the newcomer, Dorbish, spoke in disappointment.
He tried to explain the situation. "NO NO, he arrived first, I tried to act—"

Tsk
The sound of a clicking tongue interrupted.
A threatening index finger rose, moving left and right before Roran’s eyes. "Shuush... I do the talking"
Moon advised before turning to the newcomer. "So, are you that softie’s friend?" Moon provocatively taunted.
