Chapter 36: Event #001 Rewards
[Major Fate Deviation reward: Roll x2]
[Anchor Destabilization reward: Roll x4]
[Overall Fate Deviation reward(A-): Martial Memory Fragment]
[Event #001 Completion reward: Fate Archive I]
[Special Compensation.
Choice to select any one compensation:
1: System Auxiliary Module unlock.
2: 10 Rolls.]
Vincent trembled from the rewards.
Finally, something good came out of this accursed system!
Before understanding what his newfound rewards were, he decided to do the rolls.
’What if the rolls are better than the system module? It also says auxiliary so maybe it isn’t that great. Let’s see what rolls give first.’
Vincent thought of doing the rolls first.
Items began rolling in his vision despite his eyes closed.
[Rolling...]
[Roll #1]
[Obtained: Diary of the First Alliance Lord.]
[...]
[Roll #2]
[Obtained: Court Jester’s Collection.]
[...]
[Roll #3]
[Obtained: Azure Crystal]
[...]
[Roll #4]
[Obtained: The Wandering Bard’s Tales.]
[...]
[Roll #5]
[Obtained: The Glutton’s Pilgrimage.]
[...]
[Roll #6]
[Obtained: Wayfarer’s Belt.]
Two items fell on Vincent’s body. Startled, he immediately shoved them inside his pockets.
Vincent looked around. Nobody was staring in the corner he lay.
He heaved a relieved sigh and went back to lying down.
With his eyes closed, he was about to check what the items were when...
Vincent’s face scrunched.
’What...?’
Anastasia’s expression during their discussion flashed through this mind.
It wasn’t her words, it was her hesitation before she stated why she could be wrong was what he vividly remembered.
’Strange...’
He then had a feeling that he should’ve added a teaspoon of honey to his tea.
Then he had an urge to open his eyes and look around.
The first thing he noticed was Leona’s right sleeve. It was folded a bit higher than her left one.
His eyes fell on the pile of reports and the clerks coming in and going out.
’Those clerks get up from their chairs when they receive a report and walk all the way to the knight. There should be a few clerks who do the running for better efficiency.’
Again, he couldn’t tell why he thought of this. He just instinctively felt it.
Vincent closed his eyes and laid down again.
A melody drifted through his mind.
"...where the sea kisses the dying sun..."
’...!?’
It was gone before he could catch onto it.
The system notifications soon rang in his mind.

’So this is why...’ Vincent heaved a relieved sigh.
He thought he’d finally gone insane.
Shaking his head, he looking at the description of these things.
[Diary of the First Alliance Lord: Diary of the First Alliance Lord.]
[Court Jester’s Collection: A lifetime’s experience of a Court Jester.]
[The Wandering Bard’s Tales: Collection of poems, songs, myth, and hymns of a wandering bard.]
[The Glutton’s Pilgrimage: A lifetime’s experience of a traveling gourmet.]
"..."
’What are these descriptions? Shouldn’t you give a more detailed explanation?’
[Descriptions parameters are set as per Host’s intellectual capacity.]
’Translate.’
[...]

[...cannot be simplified further.]

[...]
’Fuck you.’
Vincent snorted and scrolled through the other messages.
[Special Compensation.
Choice to select any one compensation:
1: System Auxiliary Module unlock.
2: 10 Rolls.]
Vincent knew how the rolls were and his gaze fell on the first option.
’Hopefully this option makes it more useful.’ Vincent thought as he chose the first choice.
[Ding!]
[Auxiliary Module unlocked!]
[The system now has the following functions:
[1: Search — Anything within the system can be searched or asked for along with the items given by the system.
2: Storage — The Host can now store physical items in the system’s storage space. Current area: 1 cubic meter.
3: Probability — If entities above Resonant Link Entanglement are nearby, the probability of Rolls is influenced. Higher chances of a rare reward.]
The first and second options were surprising, but the third made him click his tongue.
’Tch. Should’ve taken the compensation before and then done the rolls.’
What was done was done.
Vincent focused on the event completion reward.
[Fate Archive I: A permanent record of the Host’s experiences.]
Vincent raised his eyebrows. ’Like, my life would be recorded and available to be watched anytime I wished?’
[Correct. The Host can check manually or ask the system for specific events. The system is always ready to answer!]
’What does it have to do with Fate?’
[Not sure. Maybe upgrade it to find out more?]
’It’s upgradable?’
[Yes. The suffix ’I’ represents stage one.] ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
’Wow....’
Vincent made a mental note of it and moved on to the final reward.
[Martial Memory Fragment]
This excited him as it was finally something cultivation related!
’Play the memory.’

[Warning.]
[You are no longer the observer.]
...
A colossal mountain stole the sun from the village at its foot.
A lone figure walked across the wheat fields.
A worn bamboo hat concealed his face.
A long axe rested upon his shoulder.
The villagers paid him no attention.
Neither did he.
He walked until the mountain filled his vision.
Then—
One step.
His body turned.
The axe traced a single arc through the air.
No light.
No explosion.
Only the faint whistle of metal slicing empty space.
The figure caught the axe and rested it upon his shoulder once more.
Without looking back, he continued walking toward the village.
...
...
The earth trembled.
A deep rumble rolled across the valley.
The villagers lifted their gaze.
A white line had appeared across the mountainside.
It widened.
The mountain’s crown shifted.
Stone.
Snow.
Entire cliffs.
They slid together, as though the peak itself had quietly decided to descend.
The world shook.
Vincent saw white.
.
.
.
His eyes flew open.
He shot upright, breathing heavily.
Cold sweat soaked his back.
His trembling hand instinctively reached toward empty air.
His shoulder turned.
His waist twisted.
His fingers tightened around an axe that wasn’t there.
The motion stopped halfway.
"..."
Vincent stared blankly at his own hand.
"What..."
It felt...
Natural.
Silence settled over the hall.
The scratching of pens ceased.
Several knights looked up from their reports.
One blinked.
Another quietly glanced behind Vincent as if expecting to find an invisible weapon lying there.
Anastasia frowned.
"...young master?"
Vincent slowly lowered his hand.
"I think..."
He knitted his brows and opened and closed his palms.
"...I just split a mountain."
Silence.
A clerk quietly picked up the report he’d just dropped.
Leona looked at Vincent for several long seconds before asking,
"Can you do it again?"
Vincent blinked.
"...No?"
She gave a small nod.
"That’s unfortunate."
She returned to writing her report.
