Chapter 17: Help Boss!

’’Hell...fire’s...zone. Keep...off.’’

Berry read the sign taped at the entrance of the hallway with the creepy paintings and frowned.

How had they not seen this?

Berry turned to Lin and then Stylie.

It seemed they had wandered into a part of his house that was strictly forbidden.

But what was so forbidden about the place?

’’Could it be because of the creepy paintings we saw earlier?’’ Stylie whispered quietly enough that only they could hear her as they gathered before the sign. Berry tried not to shudder at the thought.

Who buys and keeps paintings of things signed with blood?

Must be some kind of secret fetish that was really none of their business.

’’It doesn’t matter. Let’s just apologise and get to the real reason we’re here,’’ Berry suggested and Stylie nodded. They turned to Lin who still looked gravely bothered by what he had seen. For some reason, he just couldn’t dismiss it as just some creepy painting.

They all saw how that deformed snake looked so much like the guy sitting in the same room as them, right?

’’Lin!’’ Berry snapped, to get the hardworking Bean’s attention. She gave him an are you still with us? look.

It took a long time for Lin to shake off that suspicious feeling he had earlier before nodding in agreement.

’’Alright,’’ Berry whispered before taking in three deep breaths. They all turned around to face Grim.

’’Grim we are so sorry that we...’’

They fell silent.

Grim turned in his seat when he could no longer hear them whispering. A smear of hot sauce stained the corners of his lips as he looked at them curiously.

Stylie blinked.

Then he gently pushed the drumstick in his mouth. His cheeks puffed as he began to chew on the meat with an innocent look.

Stylie, Lin and Berry turned their heads at the table before him and gasped when all that remained of the food meant to be devoured by four people was the can of beer and Coke.

☆☆☆

He gave them a sheepish grin, loving how tender and sweet the drumstick tasted in his mouth.

How had he never ordered one of these things since he became a mortal?

He must get the name of the company that produced these delicious things and have them supply him daily.

He swallowed and said, ’’I appreciate the food you brought me.’’

Lin opened his mouth to curse him but Berry held him back and returned the demon’s smile.

Oh my god, he’s adorable!

Berry thought, her heart swelling as she adored him while leading her co-workers to settle on the couch close to him. Lin sat, still in shock and wondered how everything disappeared down those lips in such a short while!

’’You’re welcome, Grim,’’ Berry forced a smile and nudged the other two to be nice to him or they could forget ever helping Boss!

But Lin wanted to cry. He hadn’t eaten anything since morning and was hoping to have a nice meal with all of them.

Grim smiled, sitting more relaxed now, knowing they weren’t scared of him. He imagined them bolting out of the door the second they realized who or what he was. His heart was filled with even more gratitude as his diamond gaze stared at each of their faces, eager to know more about them and cook up more ways to get his lovely angel to fall in love with him.

’’Wow,’’ Berry continued, staring at the huge living room that was three times the size of her apartment. ’’We never imagined our soon-to-be new intern would be this loaded. I once thought you were trying so hard to impress Boss with all those rich clothes you wore but I never thought that was the real you.’’

Lin coughed. Berry was really killing it by making him feel like they thought he was once faking it.

If Grim understood what she meant, he didn’t seem bothered by it. He hoped his big house and wealth wouldn’t scare them off and they would hate him for it.

’’You are free to come here whenever you feel like it.’’

Berry blushed.

Rich, handsome, and somehow still humble.

Alright.

’’Are your parents possibly billionaires or you are into something very much lucrative and self-made?’’

Clich!

Lin picked a beer and opened it to drink, quickly feeling at home as the rain outside slowed to a stop.

Grim considered her question and thought it was best he was honest as much as possible.

’’Let’s just say, I came from a very rich family...’’

’’Oh...’’ Berry nodded, already intrigued by this enigma. He was rich, humble and has looks no one on earth has seen before.

A real future hubby for their equally gorgeous boss.

’’They own a very lucrative business that involves torturing, maiming and punishing sinners. They run a rather successful kingdom of fire and brimstone. Not as hot as humans make it sound, by the way. That’s only one section of it. My dad is sort of the ruler in this place and the more souls that get condemned there the greater the commission we receive from the guys upstairs.’’

Grim thought about it and decided to be more truthful and see if they would still be willing to be his friend.

’’I was recently sent out of my home to find the true love of my life. The more reason I am stuck in this body and can’t return until I fulfil this mission and be freed from my five-hundred-year old imprisonment. I was chained down for being rude and insubordinate to my dad and now I have...three hundred and sixty-five days minus about ten weeks to redeem myself or...’’

His eyes then wandered off with interest to the can of Coke and picked it up from the table.

’’...I die.’’

Silence.

’’How do you open this?’’ He asked, pointing to the can of coke.

Yep. Definitely missing a few screws.

What are we going to do?

Berry was the only one that smiled. Lin and Stylie looked traumatized and disturbed by his crazy words. Berry placed her hands nervously on their laps and urged them both to remain cool and neutral to this.

’’Here, let me help you.’’ She collected the canned coke. ’’You open it from here...’’ Grim sat close and watched as she opened the drink. She gave it to him and Grim took a sip of the dark liquid and nodded. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

’’This is much better than wine,’’ he praised, raising an eyebrow and they all sat back and watched him finish the entire can in one long gulp. And Berry suspected it to be his next obsession.

’’Grim,’’ Berry began, getting straight to business. ’’Since you have been so accommodating and have worked so hard to become our close buddy, the reason we came here is to offer you a better way to win Boss over than simply hovering around her.’’

Grim nodded, looking interested.

’’We were thinking if you did something good that will probably move Boss to tears, she’ll start taking you more seriously.’’

’’And maybe even offer you the position to become her newest intern.’’

Grim didn’t understand and Berry decided to be even more direct.

All the while, Grim couldn’t shake the feeling of being stared intensely by someone.

’’Showing is always stronger than simply telling or asking to be beside someone. Especially to someone that doesn’t trust or know you. You have to prove that you are capable, worthy and can be trusted. You have to show that you care for someone and do it in a way so genuine, the person will have no other choice but to let you in.’’

Grim’s eyes flickered about as he found so much sense in her words.

’’There is something our Boss wants more than anything. Even more than romance or liking all five hundred and two posts of hers on the internet. Our Boss wants to be a successful movie writer one day. She wants Hollywood to start taking her entertainment company much more seriously. Boss wants to earn so much to prove to her family that she can survive on her own and without their help. Though we do not know much about Boss and her family, all we know is that Boss is actually a very rich woman who gave it all up for her dream.’’

’’And she is suffering so much because of it. There’s a new project we’re currently working on. It’s more like an opportunity for all writers out there to be finally recognized,’’ Berry explained what the project is about. ’’Can you help us, Grim?’’

Grim looked a bit lost.

There was something like a contest open for all writers to submit their best work in a certain timeframe. The writer whose work gets selected receives a reward of about eighty percent of whatever is earned from the movie and there will be great actors and heavy promotions involved too.

But the story submitted has to be something they are looking for or it wouldn’t get picked. And no one knows what these people are looking for to invest in except one guy.

’’I don’t understand. How can my involvement in this make a difference?’’

’’Grim, you are rich, handsome and I bet you are very popular out there. You should have one or two connections in the entertainment industry, yes?’’

Grim leaned forward, his hand fisted under his chin as he shook his head. Disappointing them all.

Berry, not yet ready to give up, said quickly.

’’You don’t even know Marcus Laundry?’’

’’Who is that?’’ Grim raised one curious eyebrow and Berry sighed with a defeated look on her face.

’’One little guy that knows what these people want and insulted Boss when she asked for his help!’’

Grim’s gaze darkened and moved over to Berry.

’’An annoying little thing that could help Boss succeed this time but refuses to help. And that’s how he has always been.’’

His long slender fingers drummed lazily against the table as he suddenly had this urge to meet with this guy.

’’We thought you might have some sort of connection in Hollywood that might help Boss win this,’’ Berry couldn’t help but express her disappointment. Now, how were they supposed to help their boss if Grim proved helpless in this case.

’’The guy that insulted Corrine knows how to win this, right?’’

Berry looked at Lin, Lin shook his head that he had no idea why he asked. So, they turned to Grim and nodded.

They went on to tell him everything they knew about Marcus that has been intentionally stalling their break in this industry.

Grim listened to every detail and smiled.

’’I might have a fun way to deal with this short devil.’’
