Chapter 12: I Have A Boyfriend

Corrine closed her eyes while sighing deeply the moment he was close to take in his rich scent.

The rain fell hard without a sign of it ending soon.

She looked up to meet his deep brown eyes and wondered what could be said to scare off a pervert and a creep the most?

’’Look, I don’t understand why you are doing this to me or why you’re hell-bent in destroying my life, but...’’

She thought about it hard before making up her mind.

’’I have a boyfriend.’’

As if the heavens mirrored how he felt, thunder rumbled louder overhead. It wasn’t the storm that frightened her, but the way he looked at her.

’’I have a boyfriend, okay?’’ She repeated calmly, sounding almost sympathetic. ’’And I don’t think I can ever love or care for anyone other than him.’’

Another ripple of lightning and thunder tore through the fabric of the sky. The rain drenched them both as he heard her say to him.

Her confession explained why she had been so indifferent, cold and sometimes cruel to him. Even his appearance couldn’t sway her, and he hated that it wasn’t enough to earn even the smallest place in her heart.

It was so easy with the others he played and didn’t even remember how they looked once it was all over. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

But with the one he noticed first and liked without any fixed reason...

Corrine stared at him with wide eyes and only prayed this would be the one thing to stop this madness growing between them.

For God’s sake they were only strangers and he had found a way to make himself known in just two days!

She wondered why she wasn’t being so hostile to him now that he was before her, looking like he had just heard the saddest thing in his life.

Corrine figured that was enough to end—whatever this was here. freewebnøvel.com

’’Leave me be and please go find someone else to bother.’’

I have just one more year to live.

I can’t waste half of it trying to get rid of some weird stalker.

She created some distance between them before turning to walk away.

As she moved from him, the rain slowly began to decrease until it paused. Like magic, the rain stopped suddenly, causing many people to stare in curiosity and wonder.

Strange.

You make it seem as if a mere lover could stop me.

His gaze remained on her as she disappeared around a corner.

He is yours but you are mine.

His hold on the rain eased when he was sure she was back in her office.

Soon, I will be that one you will love and care for.

People who had let go of their umbrellas, thinking the rain had stopped, cursed and hurried about to take shelter under buildings. Some desperately tried to wave down a taxi as the one who held the rain for an angel was seen no more on the street.

Later that week, on Friday, Corrine was seen trying to get herself drunk in an empty bar that looked expensive but wasn’t.

It was very late and the bartender looked at the only customer left in concern as he cleaned the glasses and prepared to take out the trash.

She sat looking hopeless, her eyes red from staring at her screen without blinking.

Don’t worry, he will message soon.

He was probably already reading her texts now and thinking of a reply.

She reached out for her drink, slightly irritated when there was none left in the cup.

The love song humming gently in the background only worsened her mood and she wondered if the universe was indeed mocking her.

The light on her screen dimmed and went off. Corrine turned on the phone and smiled at the handsome picture of a man that was her home screen.

There was definitely no one that could look this gorgeous.

She closed her eyes and dreamed about a certain six-foot-tall, athletic-build individual that screamed dangerous. The tattoos drawn sexily around his body, his deep brown gaze that sometimes raked over her body possessively...his nice bald head...

’’Having a bad day?’’

Her eyes fluttered open as a slightly blurry image of the bartender over the counter filled her cup with something she couldn’t afford.

’’Don’t worry, it’s on the house,’’ he said with a smile, while placing the remaining bottle beside her cup.

As she stared at his retreating form, Corrine thought of something.

A number she hasn’t used in a while, one known only to her family members. She sat up and decided to call the person she has been missing badly. She never imagined there would come a day in her life she would have to live without him by her side.

She felt so lonely and suddenly all by herself in this.

She suddenly wished she never had a stupid tumor growing in her head and her boyfriend wouldn’t have to leave for somewhere far away.

’’Henry,’’ she said, the moment he picked. There was a long disturbing pause from him; she had to check if she was still connected to him.

’’Baby!!!’’

She smiled even though it was obvious now he regretted picking up the strange number right after she had called him a million times today from the one he was familiar with. The tears burned this time and it took a lot from her not to break down in tears completely.

’’Fuck it, were those your calls earlier?! Oh, baby, I didn’t know. I had my phone changed as soon as I got to Korea....’’

His voice seemed to irritate even the tumors in her head because it began to hurt that she feared no amount of alcohol she drowned in could make the pain go away.

The moment he finished rambling on about some excuses, he asked calmly, almost guiltily, ’’How are you now? Feeling any better?’’

Corrine shook her head and smiled, ’’Knowing you are still here with me makes everything ten times better.’’

There was a long pause.

She eased more on the high stool before telling him everything. Her uncle’s plans to send her away for some treatment that didn’t guarantee her survival, the new project she had set her mind in paving the way for her long-overdue breakthrough, the one year left of her very sad, sad, sad life.

And for one delusional moment, she imagined her amazing boyfriend would confess how he could feel what she was going through. He will join her in tears and he will even suggest they get married soon.

Corrine pressed her lips tightly against each other.

If he managed to come back before she got flown off to some unknown place, she was even ready to give him what he wanted the most from her as a parting gift.

That was how much she loved him.

The depth of her feelings frightened her.

But what Henry Shayme said the moment she was done talking was, ’’Darling, how about we talk more about this tomorrow? I invited some friendly neighbours over and they promised to take me on a tour. We agreed tonight and they are already here. Talk to you later, love you. Always.’’

It was only after a while she realized he was no longer on the line with her.

Placing her phone gently beside her drink and Corrine wondered if it was still safe pretending that everything was fine.
