Chapter 1075: Chapter 49: Love at First Scorn: I Miss You
Lu Zhiquan used his body to block the doorway, his gaze coldly fixed on the man standing there. "Mr. Gu."
"Mr. Lu." Gu Yan smiled without warmth, his starry eyes filled with a gloomy, vicious chill.
"Mr. Gu suddenly shows up at my door. Is there something you need?" Lu Zhiquan put both hands in his pockets, clearly with no intention of inviting Gu Yan in.
Gu Yan glanced past him into the apartment, tugged his lips into a cold smile. "I came to K City for some business, and it occurred to me that Mr. Lu is a K City native. Mr. Lu and I are old acquaintances, after all. It just felt a bit inappropriate to come all the way here and not drop by Mr. Lu’s home for a sit-down."
The corner of Lu Zhiquan’s eye twitched almost imperceptibly. "Are Mr. Gu and I that close?"
"Listen to yourself!"
As Gu Yan spoke, he suddenly stepped forward, hooked an arm around Lu Zhiquan’s neck, and, acting like he was the host instead, naturally steered Lu Zhiquan back into the apartment, casually lifting a foot to swing the door shut behind them.
Lu Zhiquan, "..." He didn’t even have time to stop him!
"Mr. Lu is an old friend of my fiancée Xiao Xing, and Mr. Lu also has something... special for my Xiao Xing. In my heart, of course Mr. Lu is special too."
Once inside, Gu Yan immediately withdrew his arm, cast a sidelong glance at Lu Zhiquan, and said it in that ambiguous tone.
Lu Zhiquan’s expression turned ugly. "Mr. Gu, I did not invite you in."
"Didn’t you?" Gu Yan spread his hands and shrugged, unconcerned.
"..." Lu Zhiquan frowned.
Gu Yan narrowed his eyes and quietly looked around the apartment, his tone hard to read. "Mr. Lu is the eldest young master of the Lu Group, President Lu’s only son. No matter how you look at it, Mr. Lu should be going into business to inherit the family empire. I really didn’t expect Mr. Lu to end up becoming a cop."
Gu Yan tilted his head at him. "But is a cop’s salary really that high? This apartment of yours is worth quite a bit. Mr. Lu wouldn’t happen to be accepting things under the table, would he?"
"Gu Yan, watch your damn mouth!"
Lu Zhiquan’s face darkened as he spoke.
"Oh my, my, my~~"
Gu Yan theatrically clutched his chest, took two steps back, and grinned at him. "Mr. Lu’s trying to scare me to death."
Lu Zhiquan ground his teeth. "What are you really doing here? I don’t have time to play polite games with you!"
"Tsk."
Gu Yan shot him a glance, then slowly walked over to the sofa and sat down. He crossed one leg over the other and looked at him. "To be honest, I came to K City to find someone. I haven’t found that person yet. So I’m planning to borrow this prime spot of yours and stay for a few days while I look."
Lu Zhiquan’s eyes practically spit fire. "Now that’s rare. Since when does Young Master Gu lack a place to stay?"
"I do, I really do. Desperately lacking." Gu Yan replied lazily.
Lu Zhiquan drew in a heavy breath. "This isn’t a homestay, and it’s not a hotel. If you want a place to stay, go find somewhere else."
"No."
Gu Yan smiled, eyes narrowing as he stared at him.
"You—!"
Lu Zhiquan glared at Gu Yan.
In Lu Zhiquan’s eyes right now, Gu Yan was basically no different from some shameless little punk who didn’t know the meaning of the word "face" and just played the rogue!
Gu Yan lifted one arm and draped it across the back of the sofa, resting the back of his head on his forearm as he lounged there, looking at Lu Zhiquan. "Mr. Lu, don’t be so stingy. One more person living here is living, two more can live just the same. Right?"
Lu Zhiquan, "..."
Gu Yan curled his lips coolly. "Mr. Lu is, at the very least, the son of the Lu Group, and you’re now holding an important post in the police bureau. You’ve got money and you’ve got power. Is there anything you can’t get done? Why would you need to rely on a woman?"
Lu Zhiquan’s back went stiff, his eyes narrowing sharply on Gu Yan.
Gu Yan gave a cold laugh. "Mr. Lu is really quite the man."
All ten of Lu Zhiquan’s fingers suddenly clenched tight, his face turning a frightening shade of green. "What are you trying to say?"
Gu Yan pouted, then suddenly sprang up from the sofa, likewise shoving both hands into his pockets, his gaze turning hard as it locked onto Lu Zhiquan. "Looks like Mr. Lu doesn’t welcome me staying here. If I have to cling to you and act shameless just to live in this place, I won’t feel too great about it either. So..."
Gu Yan’s voice abruptly rose. "Nie Xiaoxing, get your ass out here!"
Lu Zhiquan, "..."!!!
Nie Xiaoxing, who’d been standing with her back pressed to the door, jolted all over, her face turning paper white.
Gu Yan, on the other hand, started laughing, his gaze locked on Lu Zhiquan’s trembling face. "Relax, Mr. Lu. I’ll be taking my fiancée with me right now. We won’t trouble you any further."
"...Gu Yan..."
"Little Xing’er, this is someone else’s home. It wouldn’t look too good if we made a scene. Be good, come out while your young master is still in a good mood."
Gu Yan coaxed her with a smile.
Nie Xiaoxing pressed a hand to her forehead.
She’d been completely conquered by this young master’s methods!
Who would’ve thought that in just one short day—
He actually came knocking on the door?
And judging from the looks of it, he’d already dug up every last detail about what happened!
Nie Xiaoxing shut her eyes in irritation, reached up to tug at her own hair, took a deep breath, turned around, and opened the door to go out.
...
Seeing Nie Xiaoxing dawdling as she came out of the room, Gu Yan’s smile was downright "dazzling", but inside he was so furious his lungs were about to explode.
"Little Xing’er, come here." Gu Yan reached a hand toward Nie Xiaoxing.
Nie Xiaoxing’s face twitched, her big eyes flickering as she looked at him. She swallowed and said, "You... why are you here?"
Gu Yan didn’t say a word, just stared at Nie Xiaoxing.
Nie Xiaoxing felt completely unsure of herself, her face stiff as she walked over to Gu Yan’s side.
Gu Yan didn’t expect Nie Xiaoxing to put her hand in his on her own. As soon as she came close, he simply did it himself—grabbed one of her hands, squeezed it, and yanked her sharply closer to him.
Nie Xiaoxing’s whole body tilted toward his shoulder, her body jolting before she managed to steady herself, her expression awkward.
Lu Zhiquan swept a glance at their joined hands, the air around him cooling, his lips pressed tight as he looked at Gu Yan.
"Mr. Lu, then my fiancée and I won’t bother you any longer. We’ll be going."
Gu Yan said this, and pulled Nie Xiaoxing, about to drag her toward the door.
"Xiao Xing can’t leave yet!"
In a flash, Lu Zhiquan stepped in front of Gu Yan and Nie Xiaoxing.
Hearing that.
Even Gu Yan couldn’t keep up the act anymore. He glared at Lu Zhiquan, face dark. "Lu Zhiquan, if you’re still a damn man, then stop blocking me!"
Lu Zhiquan’s fingers clenched tighter and tighter. "Gu Yan, I promise I’ll protect Xiao Xing. But she really can’t leave right now!"
"Why the hell does my woman need your protection? Who do you think you are?" Gu Yan flared up the second he heard that, snorting in anger.
"...Gu Yan, be reasonable..."
"When you took my woman away, Lu Zhiquan, did you talk reason with me?"
Gu Yan grabbed Lu Zhiquan’s collar with his other hand, his anger off the charts. "Let me tell you something, Lu Zhiquan. The only reason I haven’t beaten the crap out of you yet is because what you’ve done so far still barely counts as human business! But you’d better not test my patience!"
Gu Yan suddenly let go of his collar, then pulled Nie Xiaoxing again, about to leave.
"Gu Yan!"
Lu Zhiquan was breathing hard. He grabbed Gu Yan’s arm, eyes fixed on him with firm resolve. "Xiao Xing can’t leave right now!"
The veins at Gu Yan’s temples were throbbing violently. He hit his limit—while shaking off Lu Zhiquan’s hand, he let go of Nie Xiaoxing, then raised his fist and swung it at Lu Zhiquan.
Lu Zhiquan could have dodged, but he didn’t.
He took Gu Yan’s punch head-on.
Gu Yan’s fist landed on Lu Zhiquan’s cheekbone, and as soon as he pulled back, a bruise immediately bloomed dark and purple over that spot.
The punch drove Lu Zhiquan back two steps. After steadying himself, he still stubbornly looked at Gu Yan. "Give me a little more time. Once we catch Yan Shu, I’ll send Xiao Xing back right away!"
"No way!"
Gu Yan said coldly, then turned, grabbed Nie Xiaoxing’s hand again, and strode toward the door.
"Gu Yan..."
"Gu Yan, calm down!"
Lu Zhiquan, who had been leaning forward, froze when he heard Nie Xiaoxing speak up, frowning as he looked at her.
Nie Xiaoxing held onto Gu Yan’s arm with both hands, finally managing to pull him, who had been charging toward the door, back.
Gu Yan’s expression was awful, his breathing rough and heavy, his gaze icy as he stared at Nie Xiaoxing.
Seeing him like this, Nie Xiaoxing felt miserable too. She softened her voice. "Don’t be so impatient, okay? Can we talk?"
"Nothing to talk about. You’re coming back with me," Gu Yan said.
"Don’t be like this." Nie Xiaoxing’s hands slid down from his arm and very gently took his large hand, her voice even softer, her big eyes looking at him pleadingly.
Gu Yan stared at this version of Nie Xiaoxing, his heart involuntarily going soft, but that only made him even angrier, to the point where his breathing grew heavier and heavier.
Nie Xiaoxing’s eyes turned red at the corners. She parted her lips and said in a small voice, "I really missed you."
Gu Yan’s eyes suddenly widened, staring at Nie Xiaoxing in disbelief.
Lu Zhiquan’s heart, hearing Nie Xiaoxing bare her feelings to Gu Yan right in front of him, felt as if a sharp blade had split it clean down the middle, the pain so intense his breath hitched sharply upward.
...
All because of that one "I really missed you" from Nie Xiaoxing, a certain young master in full-on rage mode instantly turned into a tiger whose fur had been smoothed down, letting himself be obediently led by Nie Xiaoxing into her guest room..
