Chapter 1057: Chapter 34: He Said, "I Don’t Like You Being Alone with Other Men
"..." Nie Xiaoxing had just sat up straight in her seat, and when she suddenly heard him say that, she froze for a moment.
"There’s a park downstairs from the apartment building. Why don’t we eat there?" Lu Zhiquan seemed not to notice Nie Xiaoxing’s uneasiness, his tone as gentle as always.
Nie Xiaoxing drew a shallow breath and forced her lips to tug up. "Okay."
Lu Zhiquan looked at Nie Xiaoxing through the rearview mirror, clear laughter flickering in his eyes.
...
On a bench to one side of the park, Lu Zhiquan took the takeout dishes out of the bag one by one and laid them out on the bench.
Nie Xiaoxing helped him open the lids of the meal boxes. "Why did you buy so much?"
Lu Zhiquan blinked at Nie Xiaoxing. "I didn’t eat dinner."
"..." Nie Xiaoxing lowered her lashes and didn’t say anything else.
Once everything was set up, Lu Zhiquan and Nie Xiaoxing sat on opposite ends of the bench.
Lu Zhiquan handed her a lunch box and a pair of chopsticks.
Nie Xiaoxing took them. "Thanks."
Lu Zhiquan lowered his head and opened his own box. "Xiao Xing, you don’t need to thank me."
Nie Xiaoxing put a bite of plain rice into her mouth. "It’s a habit."
"You’re so skinny, eat a bit more." Lu Zhiquan picked up a piece of braised pork and put it into Nie Xiaoxing’s box.
Maybe it had to do with her body; Nie Xiaoxing hardly ate meat.
Seeing the piece of braised pork on top of her rice, Nie Xiaoxing didn’t move.
"...You don’t like braised pork?" Under the dim yellow streetlamp, Lu Zhiquan saw the awkwardness on her face and asked.
Nie Xiaoxing shot him a look but didn’t answer.
Lu Zhiquan pressed his lips together, said nothing more, picked the piece of meat back up, and popped it into his own mouth.
Nie Xiaoxing stared at him, a little dumbfounded.
Lu Zhiquan smiled. "Anything you don’t like, I’ll eat for you."
Nie Xiaoxing looked at the smile on his face, but she couldn’t smile back. She lowered her head and ate in silence.
After they finished eating.
Lu Zhiquan started cleaning up the mess.
Nie Xiaoxing tried to help, but he pressed her back down onto the bench. "You’ve been resting all night, let me do this."
"I’m fine. I’m used to it." Nie Xiaoxing said.
"Then give me a chance to show off a little." Lu Zhiquan said softly.
Nie Xiaoxing looked at him.
Lu Zhiquan gave her a small smile and sped up his movements.
In no time, he was done. He threw all the trash into a bin, then walked back and sat down on the bench with Nie Xiaoxing.
"Xiao Xing, you’re still not considering being my personal trainer?" Lu Zhiquan tilted his head to look at her.
Nie Xiaoxing’s lips twitched faintly. "Better not. I know exactly what I’m worth."
"I told you before, you’re more than qualified to be my personal trainer. You don’t need to belittle yourself." Lu Zhiquan said.
Nie Xiaoxing lifted one shoulder in a small shrug, looked up at the pitch-black sky, and said softly, "It’s getting late. I should head back."
Lu Zhiquan’s gaze burned into her for a moment before he finally said with a smile, "I’ll walk you back."
"No need. I can go by myself. It’s just one street over. I’ll be there in no time."
As she spoke, Nie Xiaoxing stood up from the bench and said to Lu Zhiquan, "Thanks for the late-night snack."
Lu Zhiquan stood up as well, hands sliding into his pockets. "Seems like you really do love saying thank you."
Nie Xiaoxing raised an eyebrow and waved at him. "I’m off."
"I’ll walk you."
"Really, you don’t—"
"Xiao Xing, don’t forget, you’re a girl. You need to be protected, taken care of." Lu Zhiquan looked at her helplessly.
"That’s for regular girls. I’m a taekwondo coach. Ordinary people can’t do anything to me."
As Nie Xiaoxing said this, she waved at him again. Her body turned lightly, and without giving Lu Zhiquan another chance to speak, she strode off.
Lu Zhiquan didn’t give up on walking her back just like that.
The corners of his mouth curved slightly as he followed Nie Xiaoxing at a distance that was neither too near nor too far.
Of course Nie Xiaoxing knew Lu Zhiquan was behind her, but she never looked back.
Some things, giving a little more isn’t kindness, it’s harm.
So all the way until she walked into the apartment building where she lived, Nie Xiaoxing never turned around.
In the apartment building, Nie Xiaoxing was standing in front of the elevator waiting.
All of a sudden, a dark shadow flashed quickly past the corner of her eye.
Nie Xiaoxing’s heart clenched hard. The moment she turned her head to look, her whole body was suddenly grabbed and pulled into the emergency exit behind her.
Her back was rammed so hard against the cool wall by the solid male chest in front of her, and her hands were preemptively pinned and tied up by the man, twisted behind her back and pressed there.
Scorching hot lips came down over hers without giving her a say, and the man’s tongue at that moment was like a hard blade, chopping open her clenched teeth and forcing its way in, rough and ravenous as it tangled with hers.
The emergency stairwell on the first floor was bright, lit up by the light reflected in from the hallway, and Nie Xiaoxing’s nerves, which had been strung tight with terror, were instantly replaced by a surge of blazing fury when she saw the familiar face in front of her.
With her hands restrained, she went for his instep with her foot.
"Mm."
Gu Yan let out a muffled groan and pulled back from her lips, his brows pressed tight as he glared at her in equal anger.
When Nie Xiaoxing saw the slick, obscene wetness on his lips, her temper hit the ceiling. "Get off me!"
"You’re not happy with me on top of you, then who do you want on you? Lu Zhiquan or those taekwondo trainees at your gym?"
Gu Yan thought of how she’d been picked up by Lu Zhiquan and the two of them even had some ’romantic’ late-night snack together, and the fire in his chest spread like wildfire, burning through every corner of his body!
With this blaze of anger he couldn’t even control himself, his mouth went totally off the rails!
"Filthy. Disgusting."
Nie Xiaoxing was so mad her gums were shaking!
"I’m filthy and disgusting, but that Lu Zhiquan is so noble and pure?" Gu Yan was burning with rage; he suddenly lowered his head and bit down on Nie Xiaoxing’s nose.
"..." Nie Xiaoxing’s shoulders trembled from the pain. "If you want to go crazy, go do it somewhere else!"
Gu Yan glared at her, teeth clamped down and refusing to let go.
Gu Yan was in a blind rage, so of course he wasn’t gentle.
Nie Xiaoxing hurt so much tears were about to spill out. She choked out, "...Gu Yan, you’re seriously sick!"
Yeah, he was sick!
Sick in the head, pathetic and self-abusive!
Gu Yan thought furiously, and his teeth dug in even harder, like he wanted to bite Nie Xiaoxing’s whole nose clean off!
Nie Xiaoxing really couldn’t take it anymore. She opened her mouth to suck in a couple breaths, staring at him with tears in her eyes. "What do you want from me?"
What did he want?
He just wanted her to stop going out every damn day and throwing herself around in front of other men!
Gu Yan’s bloodshot eyes bored into her, like Nie Xiaoxing had done something unforgivable to him, Mr. Gu!
Nie Xiaoxing was about to stomp her foot. "Gu Yan, I’m scared of you already, okay? If you’re mad, can you at least tell me properly why you’re mad? You tell me, so I know what the hell I did to wrong you! Are—are you seriously trying to bite me to death?"
"..." Gu Yan’s eyes flickered, then he narrowed them and gave a cold snort before finally letting go of Nie Xiaoxing’s nose.
The second Nie Xiaoxing’s nose was freed, she hurriedly tipped her head back, tears swimming in her eyes as she stared at Gu Yan.
Gu Yan’s face was dark. "Nie Xiaoxing, don’t forget you’re now my fiancée. Any other man, I want you to stay as far away from them as possible!"
Nie Xiaoxing pressed her lips together, staring at Gu Yan without saying a word.
"What, you think just because I haven’t kept you in line for the past two months, you can do whatever you want now and casually entertain other men fawning all over you?" Gu Yan snorted coldly.
Nie Xiaoxing turned her face to the side.
"Who told you to turn away? Turn back. Look at me!" Gu Yan said.
Nie Xiaoxing shut her eyes.
Gu Yan bared his teeth. "Nie Xiaoxing, believe it or not, I’ll bite your face to pieces!"
"Gu Yan, you’re sick," Nie Xiaoxing said coldly.
"...Yeah, I’m sick. You got the cure?" Gu Yan stared at her.
"You’re really far gone. Just taking pills won’t fix you anymore. You need a hospital. A mental hospital," Nie Xiaoxing said.
"Even if I go to a mental hospital, I’m dragging you in with me!"
"..."
Nie Xiaoxing’s throat worked twice, and the long black lashes hanging over her eyes were damp at the roots.
Gu Yan felt a sharp twist in his chest. He frowned, and his voice finally softened a notch. "I don’t like you being alone with other men."
Nie Xiaoxing opened her eyes, and in that instant tears slid down. Her pupils looked even clearer as she stared straight at Gu Yan. "And who are you to not like it? Gu Yan, do you really think you’re my fiancé? When have I ever admitted that? That’s just your tyrannical, one-sided claim! You have no right to control me!"
Hearing that stubborn streak of hers, Gu Yan should have blown up, but watching the tears that wouldn’t stop falling from her eyes, he just... couldn’t get angry, couldn’t stay ruthless.
His tightly pressed thin lips moved a few times, but what came out was, "Don’t cry."
Looking at him, Nie Xiaoxing’s tears only fell harder.
Other than that night when she’d told him about her past, when had Gu Yan ever seen this kind of Nie Xiaoxing? His heart immediately twisted into a knot, suddenly panicked and aching. He furrowed his sharp brows, watching her in a mix of helplessness and anxiety.
