Chapter 1036: Chapter 15: Didn’t Expect You Actually Have a Chest
Nie Xiaoxing returned to the apartment building. When the elevator reached the floor and opened, the moment she had just stepped one foot out, a low, lazy male voice suddenly floated over from ahead.
"I almost thought you couldn’t bear to come back tonight."
Nie Xiaoxing’s stepping foot paused. She lifted her eyes to the man leaning slantwise against the wall beside the apartment door, staring at her with a half-smile, half-not expression.
A flash of surprise swept quickly through her clear eyes. Nie Xiaoxing frowned and walked out of the elevator.
Watching her walk toward him, Gu Yan took the hand in his pocket out and folded it across his chest, eyes tilted up, staring at her with a lazy air. "What? That guy didn’t keep you for the night?"
"Gu Yan, watch your damn mouth!"
Nie Xiaoxing glared at him in anger.
Gu Yan narrowed his eyes. "So ugly."
Nie Xiaoxing clenched her fist, her eyes reddening with rage as she stared at him and said word by word, "Gu Yan, you really have no class."
"I’ve got no class? And that guy does?" Gu Yan bared his teeth, glaring fiercely at Nie Xiaoxing as he spoke.
"..." Nie Xiaoxing’s chest heaved twice. "Gu Yan, what’s the point of you targeting me like this? I already promised you that I’d explain things clearly to Aunt Yuan before the fifteenth.
I really don’t understand, what else do you want from me? You want me to tell Aunt Yuan right now? Fine, as you wish, I’ll tell her this instant!"
As she spoke, Nie Xiaoxing took the bag off her shoulder, opened it, and pulled out her phone from inside.
But the moment she had the phone in her hand, Nie Xiaoxing’s eyes suddenly reddened hard.
Her gaze fell on the phone lying in her palm and then didn’t move.
Gu Yan glanced at her phone. His slouched figure against the wall slowly straightened up, his face dark as he watched her.
After quite a while, Nie Xiaoxing’s icy voice finally sounded in the air. "Give me your phone. I’ll put my SIM card in your phone to call Aunt Yuan. That way, she won’t suspect that I’m only making this call because of you."
Gu Yan’s gaze inevitably dropped again to the phone in her hand.
Probably because she had just fought with that group and used her backpack to block them, the phone screen inside her backpack was already shattered.
Nie Xiaoxing’s lips were trembling slightly. Her fingertips slowly pried open the phone case, looking for the SIM card.
"Nie Xiaoxing..."
"I’ll be done right..."
Nie Xiaoxing’s voice shook, and before she could finish, she was already pulled into a broad, warm chest that seeped with heat.
Nie Xiaoxing bit down on her lower lip at once, her eyes feeling like they had caught fire, burning so badly it hurt.
Feeling her struggle, Gu Yan only held her tighter.
He himself couldn’t say why. Seeing her silently endure, hurting while pretending to be strong—he just couldn’t hold back and ended up hugging her.
And right now, he didn’t want to figure it out either.
"...What are you doing? Let go!"
Nie Xiaoxing’s eyes were flushed red as she pushed at him.
"Nie Xiaoxing, I’m sorry."
Gu Yan lowered his head, speaking seriously by her ear.
Nie Xiaoxing gripped the shattered phone in her hand. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"I’m sorry I shouldn’t have left you on the roadside and ignored you. I’m sorry I didn’t get there in time. I’m sorry I could only...watch with my eyes wide open while a bunch of them went at you alone. I’m sorry for what I said to you just now."
Every word Gu Yan said now was so serious, so heartfelt, so...hard not to believe.
Nie Xiaoxing froze, her large eyes brimming with two pools of clear, glistening moisture.
...
In the apartment, after showering, Nie Xiaoxing came out wearing a conservative set of pajamas, and found that Gu Yan was still sitting on the sofa, not having left.
Maybe the words Gu Yan said to her earlier really had stirred something in her. The layer of armor she’d been wearing tightly around herself was briefly set down.
Nie Xiaoxing walked over and sat down on the sofa, looking at Gu Yan. "You should go back."
Gu Yan glanced at her. Although he thought the pajamas she was wearing were so old-fashioned they were about to explode, he forcibly swallowed his urge to mock her.
He suddenly stood up from the sofa, took big steps over to her side, sat down, and lifted his hand to undo the buttons on Nie Xiaoxing’s pajamas.
"...Gu Yan!"
Nie Xiaoxing was startled and tried to stand up from the sofa.
Gu Yan quickly pressed down on her shoulders, not allowing her to get up.
Nie Xiaoxing was both embarrassed and angry. "Gu Yan, were all those things you just said to me at the door lies?"
Gu Yan’s face heated slightly as he glared at her.
He also didn’t know what kind of fit he’d had, to actually say something like that to her—words that made his skin crawl just thinking back on them now!
Nie Xiaoxing deeply regretted that she’d actually believed anything that came out of his mouth. Fuming, she said, "Let go, now! Or don’t blame me for not being polite to you!"
"In the state you’re in now?"
Gu Yan sneered. "I could give you one hand for free and you still might not be able to beat me."
