Chapter 1033: Chapter 12: What the Hell Is Wrong with You? Did I Ever Ask You to Swear an Oath?

Free ride, might as well take it!

For more than ten minutes after Nie Xiaoxing got in the car, it was relatively quiet inside.

Of course, this quiet only lasted for those ten minutes.

Suddenly, Mr. Gu cleared his throat beside her and asked, "So, are you really planning to tell the Empress Dowager tonight that you’re not getting married?"

Nie Xiaoxing looked at the fleeting night scene outside the window for a long moment, "Yeah."

Gu Yan, "..."

"Rest assured, before the fifteenth, I’ll find another chance to make it clear to Aunt Yuan. So, you don’t need to worry about marrying a freak as your wife. Mr. Gu’s reputation will stay intact," Nie Xiaoxing said quietly.

Gu Yan’s face twitched slightly, and he raised his eyes to look at Nie Xiaoxing from the rearview mirror, only feeling uncomfortable after a while, "Would you really be that straightforward?"

Nie Xiaoxing turned to look at him, her eyes particularly bright in the dimly lit car cabin, "What, did I hurt Mr. Gu’s self-esteem by saying that? Well, it’s understandable. Mr. Gu is handsome and elegant, talented, wealthy, and powerful; it’s only natural to have high self-regard."

Gu Yan was embarrassed by her bluntness, feeling unable to maintain his composure, "Are you taking revenge on me?"

Nie Xiaoxing tilted her head, confused, looking at Gu Yan, "Revenge? What are you talking about, Mr. Gu?"

Hearing her call him Mr. Gu repeatedly, Gu Yan felt unexplainably annoyed, his handsome face sank, and he angrily glared at her from the rearview mirror, "Because I called you a freak!"

Nie Xiaoxing’s expression changed slightly, her calm eyes instantly becoming sharp as she looked at Gu Yan.

It was at this moment that Gu Yan realized how much Nie Xiaoxing minded the word "freak."

Seeing her slightly tense face, Gu Yan actually felt a little better, curling his lips as he said, "I’m not bragging, but at least a third of the women in Z City want to marry me..."

"Are you going to brag to the heavens?" Nie Xiaoxing dug her ear.

"..." Gu Yan ground his teeth, "I’m being serious!"

Nie Xiaoxing glanced at him.

Gu Yan, "...Just slightly exaggerated."

Nie Xiaoxing leaned back against the seat, her face turned back towards the car window.

Gu Yan glanced at her, the small sense of satisfaction in his heart quickly overshadowed by gloom, he muttered a few frustrated words, "You better keep your word!"

Nie Xiaoxing hugged the studded backpack in her arms and smirked, "Should I swear an oath? If I..."

"What’s wrong with you? Did I ask you to swear an oath?!" Gu Yan suddenly bellowed angrily.

Drawn to the suddenness, Nie Xiaoxing was momentarily stupefied, her lips slightly parted, looking at Gu Yan in confusion.

After shouting those words, Gu Yan seemed more agitated.

His face taut, he stomped the accelerator.

The car shot forward down the road like a rocket.

Nie Xiaoxing gasped sharply, instinctively clutching the car handle, staring at the driver’s seat where Gu Yan was.

Gu Yan didn’t look at her, speeding up continuously.

Maybe even he didn’t know what kind of madness he was succumbing to!

...

The car finally came to a slow stop in front of a building, Nie Xiaoxing lightly closed her eyes, her lips already pale, only hidden by the dim light of the rear seat.

"Boss Rong, get in."

Nie Xiaoxing heard this, her eyelashes trembled slightly, she opened them, and looked out through the car window.

She saw a tall man standing outside the car, his handsome face cold and stern.

Rong Mochen gave a glance at Gu Yan in the driver’s seat, reaching out to open the car door.

At this moment, a soft voice suddenly came from the front.

Rong Mochen’s whole body froze, his sharp eyes immediately locking onto the source of the sound.

Then, he walked swiftly in that direction.

Simultaneously, Nie Xiaoxing caught sight of Gu Yan quickly unbuckling his seatbelt, his hand already on the car handle.

Nie Xiaoxing focused her gaze, staring at Gu Yan’s face through the rearview mirror.

She clearly saw hesitation, subtle endurance, and outright worry on his face.

Nie Xiaoxing closed her previously parted lips, lightly fluttered her eyelashes, looked through the car window.

At this moment, Rong Mochen was walking back towards them, carrying a woman in his arms.

For some reason, Gu Yan didn’t push open the car door but re-fastened his seatbelt. (This is in the main text, not sure if the ladies remember. Won’t elaborate any further.)

...

Nie Xiaoxing was left on the spacious roadside by Gu Yan, watching his car drive away farther and farther in front of her, her gaze stretching outwards along with it.

Maybe because her eyes looked too far ahead, her eyes seemed somewhat vacant and confused.

Standing there for a while, Nie Xiaoxing headed forward along the street leading back to her apartment.

The streets at eleven in the night had already started to empty out, and the whole city felt peaceful and quiet, as if it were entirely devoid of danger.

Nie Xiaoxing walked for a while before stopping.

Because she knew it would take her forty minutes to walk back to the apartment she was staying at from here.

Although no one else cared for her safety, she couldn’t ignore her own well-being.

Nie Xiaoxing stood by the roadside, watching a taxi coming from afar, and she raised her thumb to hail it.

Nie Xiaoxing saw the driver veering towards her and was about to stop.

But suddenly, the driver’s expression changed dramatically, and he floored the gas pedal, speeding past Nie Xiaoxing.

Nie Xiaoxing’s pupils contracted, her back straightening simultaneously.

A gust of wind suddenly swept in from one side.

Nie Xiaoxing dodged to one side; though she managed to avoid it, she couldn’t help but appear somewhat disheveled.

Before she could stabilize herself, two tall black shadows swiftly attacked her.

Nie Xiaoxing gritted her teeth, swung her bag forcefully at them.

She dodged their attack, but they successfully circled behind her.

In front of her stood three people as well.

So, Nie Xiaoxing was surrounded, trapped in the middle.

With one hand clutching her bag, Nie Xiaoxing clenched her other hand into a fist, her entire body taut, her dark, shiny eyes watching the people surrounding her warily.

"A bunch of men ganging up on a woman, isn’t that overkill?" Nie Xiaoxing said harshly.

"Nie, we brothers have chased you across several cities, and you’ve always slipped away; we have to admit, we’re impressed! But this time, even if you sprout wings, you won’t escape from the palms of our hands! Get her!" The leader, gritting his teeth, said with hatred.

"Wait..."

"Get her!"

The leader, having suffered losses at Nie Xiaoxing’s hands before, was determined to capture her this time and bring her back to report.

So he left Nie Xiaoxing no chance for tricks, shouting as soon as she opened her mouth.

As soon as the leader’s words fell, two men approached Nie Xiaoxing aggressively, fists clenched.

Nie Xiaoxing’s palms tightened then loosened, loosened then tightened once more, finally clenching hard.

As the two men reached for her shoulders, Nie Xiaoxing slightly shifted her left foot back, and just as their hands were about to touch her shoulder, she pushed off the ground with her toe, sending her body semi-airborne, her right leg straightened, swinging toward the men’s necks.

"Ah..."

The two men immediately covered their carotid arteries, letting out muffled groans, their assault on Nie Xiaoxing slowing down.

But just then, another two men charged forward.

These men were not ordinary; they carried skills and strength, their attacks quick, precise, and ruthless.

In a one-on-one, Nie Xiaoxing might manage to handle one.

With two attacking simultaneously, Nie Xiaoxing struggled to cope, soon taking several heavy blows to her shoulder and abdomen, her bones aching.

"You two, get in there too!" The leader commanded harshly.

The two men nursing their necks viciously prodded their own necks, murderous intent in their eyes as they glared at Nie Xiaoxing.

Fists clenched fiercely, they raised them high, striking toward Nie Xiaoxing’s face.

Nie Xiaoxing caught sight from the corner of her eye, and felt a wave of dizziness.

Understanding in her heart, these two punches would leave her, if not dead, then unconscious!

Nie Xiaoxing thought she’d never be able to dodge this time.

Suddenly.

A white figure appeared in front of her.

The two punches landed heavily on the white figure.

"Ugh..."

The man grunted deeply, crouching down to the ground.

Because of the man’s sudden intervention, the two others tangled with Nie Xiaoxing also paused slightly, looking in surprise at the man crouched on the ground.

Just then.

Police sirens suddenly blared through the deep night air.

The leader straightened his expression, turning his head to see several police cars rushing toward them, with officers already disembarking, armed and moving in.

The leader’s pupils shrank violently, glared at Nie Xiaoxing with a bite of hatred, and shouted to the other four, "Go!"

Nie Xiaoxing watched as those men sprinted away in the opposite direction of the approaching police cars, taking a long breath, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and quickly approached the man still crouched on the ground.
