Chapter 97: Chapter 97

Daphne’s POV

I closed the door behind me the moment I stepped into the room.

Sapphire jerked in surprise. She had been standing near the mirror, pulling a dark dress over her shoulders. Her hair fell down her back and she turned quickly when she saw me.

"Daphne?" she asked, confused. "Why are you—"

I didn’t let her finish.

I rushed toward her, grabbed her by the arms, pulled her close and kissed her hard. My heart was beating fast and I could barely contain the excitement inside me. When I finally pulled back, I was smiling so wide my cheeks hurt.

"It’s happening," I said breathlessly. "It’s finally happening, Saph."

She stared at me for a second, then a slow smile spread across her face.

"I knew it would work," she said calmly.

I laughed softly and held her hands. "Of course you did. You always act like everything is already planned in your head."

She shrugged lightly, looking proud of herself. "Because most of the time it is."

I stepped back a little and looked at her carefully.

"How did you do it?" I asked quickly. "Tell me everything. I want to hear it exactly."

Sapphire turned fully toward me and leaned against the table beside the mirror. She looked relaxed, almost amused.

"You know I’m a witch," she said.

"Yes, yes, I know that part," I said impatiently. "But how did you get the girl to do exactly what we needed?"

Sapphire folded her arms.

"This morning I went looking for her," she began. "Summer was playing outside near the gardens. No guards too close, no one paying attention. Children are very easy to approach when they think you are just someone friendly."

I nodded slowly.

"She didn’t recognize you?" I asked.

"No," Sapphire said. "Why would she? I don’t spend time around Gunnar’s child. To her I was just another person inside the castle."

"So you spoke to her?"

Sapphire smiled.

"I didn’t need to say much. A small push inside her mind was enough. Just a light touch. Nothing painful. I simply guided her thoughts."

I crossed my arms and listened closely.

"What kind of thoughts?"

Sapphire lifted a finger.

"I made her suddenly remember her grandfather. I placed the idea that she should visit him today. I made it feel like it was her own idea."

I smirked.

"So she went to Sebastian?" freewёbnoνel.com

"Yes," Sapphire said. "Exactly like we needed."

I started pacing slowly in the room while she continued speaking.

"And the poison?" I asked.

"That part was simple," she replied.

She reached into a small pouch sitting on the table and lifted a tiny dark bottle. She held it between two fingers. freewebnσvel.cøm

"This," she said.

I walked closer and stared at the liquid inside.

"What is it called?"

Sapphire smiled slowly."It’s called Morveth Draught."

I frowned slightly. "I’ve never heard of that."

"Of course you haven’t," she said calmly. "Very few people have. It’s an old poison used by witches a long time ago. It has no smell, no taste, and it works slowly. At first the person just feels weak, then their body begins to shut down little by little."

I watched the liquid carefully.

"And a few drops were enough?" I asked.

"Oh yes," she said. "A few drops are more than enough for a child."

I exhaled slowly, feeling satisfaction spread through my chest.

"So tell me the rest," I said. "How did it happen exactly?"

Sapphire placed the bottle back on the table and continued.

"I followed the girl from a distance after I placed the suggestion in her head. She walked straight to Sebastian’s chambers just like I expected."

I smirked again."That old man is predictable."

"Exactly," Sapphire agreed. "When Summer entered his room he was already having his meal."

"And Sebastian let her stay?" I asked.

Sapphire laughed softly.

"You know how he is with children. He may hate Gunnar, but he has never harmed the girl. In fact he pretends to be kind whenever she is around."

"Yes," I said, nodding slowly. "He likes acting like a decent grandfather."

"Right," Sapphire said. "So when she walked in he immediately asked her what she wanted."

"What did she say?" I asked.

"She said she wanted to spend time with him," Sapphire replied. "Those were the words I planted in her head."

I smiled."That sounds believable."

"It was," Sapphire said. "He even seemed pleased. He told her to sit down with him."

"And the food?"

Sapphire leaned forward slightly."That was the best part."

I watched her carefully.

"He was eating roasted meat and bread," she said. "Very normal meal. When Summer sat down beside him he asked if she wanted some."

"Of course he did," I said.

"Yes," Sapphire replied. "He tore a piece and placed it on a plate for her."

I frowned a little.

"But the poison wasn’t in the food yet."

Sapphire shook her head.

"No, not yet. That is where I stepped in."

My eyes narrowed.

"You were inside the room?"

"Yes," she said simply. "But hidden. I used a small concealment spell. No one could see me."

I let out a quiet laugh."You really thought of everything."

She smiled proudly.

"While Sebastian turned to pour himself a drink, I walked over to the table and dropped three small drops of Morveth Draught onto the piece of meat he had given the girl."

"And she didn’t notice?"

"No," Sapphire said. "She was busy talking to him."

I shook my head slowly, impressed.

"So she ate it."

"Yes," Sapphire said. "She took a bite while he watched her. A completely normal moment. He had no idea."

"And Sebastian even ate from the same plate?" I asked.

Sapphire nodded.

"Yes, but I made sure the poison was only on the piece meant for her."

"That way it looks like he gave it to her."

"Exactly."

I felt excitement rising again.

"Then she left the room?"

"Yes," Sapphire said. "After a few minutes she thanked him and walked out. I removed the influence from her mind so she would not remember anything strange."

I crossed my arms again.

"And the poison started working."

"Slowly," Sapphire replied. "At first she probably just felt a little sick. Then it would grow worse."

I laughed softly."And now everyone would think Sebastian poisoned her."

Sapphire tilted her head slightly."Not yet," she said. "But very soon."

I thought about Caden’s face earlier when I mentioned Sebastian.

His anger had been so clear.

"So the trap is already working," I said.

"Oh yes," Sapphire replied calmly. "Once Gunnar hears about this he will lose control."

I stopped pacing and looked directly at her."You know how he is about his daughter."

"Of course I do," she said.

"If he believes Sebastian poisoned Summer," I continued, "he will not stop."

Sapphire nodded."He will go straight to him."

"And he will be furious."

"Yes."

I grinned slowly."This is going to be beautiful."

Sapphire laughed.

"You enjoy chaos too much."

"Maybe," I said. "But this chaos will finally break that family apart."

I walked closer to her again.

"You should have seen Caden’s face when I hinted at it," I said. "He was already losing his temper."

"Good," Sapphire replied.

"He will probably run to tell Gunnar."

"That is exactly what we want."

I leaned against the table beside her."You know what will happen next, right?"

She nodded slowly."Gunnar will confront Sebastian."

"And Sebastian will deny it," I added.

"Yes."

"But Gunnar will not believe him."

"Of course he won’t."

I smiled wider."Especially when his daughter is lying there poisoned."

Sapphire crossed her arms and watched me.

"You really hate them," she said quietly.

I looked at her.

"Yes," I said simply.

She didn’t question it. Instead she smiled.

"Well," she said, "today we finally see how strong their bond really is."

She leaned closer and whispered softly."An Alpha does not think clearly when his child is dying."

My eyes widened slightly and then I started laughing."You’re right."

She straightened and picked up her cloak."So," she said calmly, "should we go?"

I looked at her curiously."Go where?"

She gave me a knowing smile."To watch the rest of the show."

I clapped my hands once in excitement."Yes."

My heart was beating faster again as I imagined what was happening right now.

I grabbed Sapphire’s hand and pulled her toward the door.

She laughed as I dragged her along."You’re very excited," she said.

"Of course I am," I replied.

We stepped into the hallway and I could already hear distant voices and hurried footsteps echoing through the castle.

Everything was starting. Everything was falling into place exactly how we planned it, oh my I can’t wait to have this pack in my fucking hands.

I squeezed her hand and turned to her with a wide grin.

"Come now let’s go watch an Alpha who wants to murder his own father in front of the entire pack."
