Chapter 62: Chapter 62

Riley’s POV

Their words stayed in my head as we walked through the dark passage, and no matter how hard I tried to focus on where we were going, my thoughts kept spinning again and again.

Several times their father had already refused our union, and every time he did, it always felt like something dangerous was building under the surface.

I did not know why, but right now the feeling was even stronger, like something bad was about to happen very soon.

The corridor was long and quiet, the lights on the wall giving only enough light to see the floor in front of us.

The air felt heavy, and the sound of our footsteps echoed softly. None of them were talking. Caden walked in front, Cane beside me, and Gunnar behind, but I could feel his presence strongly even without turning around.

My heart was beating faster with every step.

Finally, we reached a large door at the end of the passage. Caden stopped and knocked once before pushing it open without waiting for permission.

The moment we entered, I froze.

"Oh my God," I blurted out before I could stop myself.

Sebastian was on the bed, completely naked, and he was having sex with a woman like we had just walked into some kind of disgusting show. I quickly turned my face away, my stomach twisting in disgust.

’Was this man a whore or something?’ I asked out loud, not even caring that he heard me.

The woman gasped and scrambled off the bed, trying to grab her clothes in a hurry. She looked terrified as she dressed and rushed out of the room without even looking at any of us.

"You all came at the wrong time," Sebastian said casually as he stood up, not even bothered by what had just happened.

I felt sick.

He pulled on his robe slowly and tied it, his eyes moving from his sons to me. The look he gave me made my skin crawl. There was something cold and calculating about it.

If there was one thing I had noticed since I came to Obsidian Veil, it was that these brothers did not have any real relationship with their father.

In fact, they looked more like enemies forced to live under the same roof. Every time they stood in the same room, the tension was so thick that even someone blind would feel it.

"What is it this time?" Sebastian asked, walking toward his desk like we were wasting his time.

Caden was the first to speak.

"You already know," he said calmly.

Sebastian laughed.

"I have already given you my condition," he replied. "Either you relinquish your entitlement as Alphas, or she performs the Rite of the Borrowed Moon for sixty days."

The way he said it made my chest tighten.

Cane stepped forward immediately.

"We are not going to do either of those," he said firmly.

Sebastian raised an eyebrow.

"Then what do you plan to do?" he asked.

"We will marry her in court," Cane replied without hesitation.

"Without my approval?" Sebastian asked, his voice turning cold.

Cane opened his mouth to answer, but Gunnar suddenly spoke.

"She will perform the Rite of the Borrowed Moon."

The words dropped like a bomb.

I blinked. Everyone turned to look at him.

"What?" Caden said.

Cane looked just as shocked.

Even Sebastian seemed surprised.

"But on one condition," Gunnar added calmly.

The atmosphere in the room changed instantly.

Sebastian straightened, his expression becoming serious in a way I had never seen before.

"What condition?" he asked slowly.

Gunnar smirked.

I had never seen him smirk before. He was always calm, cold, and emotionless, but this smirk was different. It looked dangerous and confident, and I knew immediately that nothing good was about to come out of his mouth.

He stepped forward.

Sebastian took a small step back without even realizing it.

"The condition, if you refuse it, then you will leave us with no choice but to go ahead with the marriage without your consent, and you know very well that goes against pack laws," Gunnar said.

The tension in the room kept rising.

"Once again, what condition?" Sebastian asked, his voice sharp.

Gunnar stood right in front of him now.

"If she performs the Rite of the Borrowed Moon for sixty days and succeeds, then she will marry us. That part is clear," he said.

Sebastian nodded slowly.

"And?"

Gunnar’s smirk widened.

"Second, she will be crowned the new Luna of Obsidian Veil, succeeding our mother."

The room went completely silent.

Sebastian stood up.

"What?" he demanded.

My heart started racing. I did not expect that. I did not even know what to say.

"I am not finished," Gunnar continued.

Caden and Cane were staring at him like they were seeing him for the first time. freēwēbnovel.com

"And the last condition," Gunnar said calmly, "you will step down as Alpha King and allow us to take full leadership."

The words hit harder than anything else.

For a moment, no one moved.

Sebastian’s face twisted with anger and shock.

"You dare?" he growled.

"Yes," Gunnar replied without fear. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

The air between them felt like it could explode at any second.

Sebastian’s eyes moved to me.

"You," he said coldly. "Did you plan this?"

I was shocked and stuck on what to reply and he laughed.

"You think you can come into my pack and cause segregation?"

Caden stepped closer to me."She is not your enemy," he said.

Sebastian ignored him.

"The Rite of the Borrowed Moon is not something you can survive easily," he said to me. "Do you even know what it means?"

"No," I admitted.

His smile became cruel."It means sixty days of trials. Pain. Isolation. Control. And if you fail, you die."

My stomach dropped.

Cane spoke immediately."She will not die."

Sebastian looked at him.

"You are confident."

"I know," Cane replied.

Gunnar stepped closer."So what is your answer?" he asked.

The silence stretched. Sebastian looked at each of his sons one by one, and something dark passed through his eyes.

"You think you are ready to rule?" he said.

"Yes," Gunnar replied.

"You think you can handle obsidian veil?" he added.

"We already are," Caden said.

Sebastian laughed again, but this time there was no humor in it.

"Alright," he said suddenly.

All of us froze.

"If she wants to perform the Rite, then she will. But when she fails, you will all regret this."

"I will not fail," I said before I could stop myself.

His eyes snapped to me."We will see about that."

He turned away."Prepare her. The Rite begins in three days."
