Chapter 58: Chapter 58

Caden’s POV

Gunnar was about to move when I stopped him with my hand and forced a smile on my face. I turned slowly to the guard and shook my head like he had just made the biggest mistake of his life.

I leaned a little closer to him and lowered my voice so it sounded dangerous and calm at the same time.

"If I report this to Laden because of your insults on a personal supervision he sent us to do, I hope you will like the punishment that will follow after," I said to him, my voice a little threatening.

The effect was instant.

His sword wavered. His hand trembled. His face lost color and his eyes widened in fear as he faltered on his steps a bit now, unsure and terrified.

That name had power here of course, Laden was their ruthless leader and no one would want to cross on his bad side. They would be as good as dead.

"Drop the weapon," I added, my tone cold and commanding at the same time.

He did not even hesitate. The sword fell from his hand and clanged loudly on the floor. He bowed his head slightly at me now.

Wow, this was Interesting indeed, I chuckled in my mind.

"I am truly sorry for the inconvenience I may have caused you. I did not know the order was from Laden. I would never have interfered," he said quickly, staring down now.

Once bold and smart, now a scaredy chicken at the mention of Laden, was Laden that much wicked and scary to his guards? No wonder they smell so bad, I doubt it they eat good food atall yet they guard people 24×7

I stared at him for a few seconds, making him sweat.

"You can go," I said.

He nodded and turned to leave, but I stopped him again.

"One more thing."

He froze immediately.

"Which cell was the dirty looking girl taken from Obsidian Veil kept? It has been instructed that we check on her as soon as possible since today is the second day."

He swallowed and nodded.

"Yes, sir."

He began explaining the direction. "Go straight through this corridor until you see the split. Take the left turn. Walk until you reach the iron pillar. Then take another right. There will be a narrow hallway. At the end of that, turn left again. You will see the last row. She is in the third cell from the end."

I memorized everything instantly.

"Good," I said.

Then I added casually, "Make sure you tell the other guards to be extremely tight with security tonight. The Triarch Alphas might break in."

The moment those words left my mouth, the man shivered. Fear flashed in his eyes.

"Yes, sir," he said quickly before turning and rushing away.

The moment he disappeared, I released a long breath.

"Ouuu," I muttered.

I turned to Cane and Gunnar to continue.

But Gunnar was gone, no one where to be found.

My heart dropped.

"Oh fuck," I cursed. "Where the hell did that idiot go? He should not do anything stupid right now."

Cane and I looked at each other and we both knew.

We rushed forward.

We followed the direction the guard gave us and when we reached the last hallway, we already heard noise.

A struggle.

A choking sound.

And when we arrived, the scene in front of us made my head hurt.

As expected.

Gunnar was holding a man by his throat with one hand, lifting him off the ground like he weighed nothing. The man’s legs were kicking weakly. His face was turning purple. His eyes were rolling back.

And in the next cell was Riley.

She looked shocked and terrified.

The moment she saw me, her eyes lit up.

"Caden," she called as if happy to see me in her entire world.

I nodded and rushed to her.

"What is going on?" I asked.

She nodded in fear. "I do not know. I was talking with him. His name is Bane. He has been helping me for the past two days. Suddenly Gunnar came here and. He said the man was a threat. I do not even know how he entered a locked cell. He just walked in and grabbed him. Please stop him. He is going to kill him."

I cursed inside.

This was bad.

Very bad.

I looked at Cane and he looked at me. We were thinking the same thing.

I walked slowly toward Gunnar.

I stopped a few steps away.

"He is not an enemy, Gunnar. Let him go," I said.

No response.

It was like he did not hear me at all sef.

His grip tightened and the man gasped weakly.

"Gunnar," I called again. "He is not a threat to her. Let him go." ƒгeewёbnovel.com

Still nothing.

His shoulders were stiff. His breathing was heavy. His eyes I know would be glowing dangerously by now which he usually hides because it’s different from the rest of us.

Cane moved slightly and I signaled him. "His Medicine. Now"

Cane quickly searched his pocket and found the small vial.

I was about to take it then we heard footsteps.

Many.

Running.

Shit!

They had been alerted.

I hid the vial immediately.

"They are coming now, Gunnar. Let him go. We need to take Riley out of here immediately," I shouted.

The footsteps were getting closer.

Riley looked terrified.

Without wasting time, I broke the lock of her cell. The metal snapped loudly.

I pulled her out and pushed her toward Cane.

"Take her and go. Make sure she is safe. I will get him out," I said.

Riley looked at me in horror but Cane did not hesitate. He grabbed her and took off.

I turned to Gunnar. I used my wolf strength and pulled him back.

He resisted for a second. But then he released the man.

Bane dropped to the floor, gasping.

And just then—"Halt!"

The voice echoed loudly.

We froze.

Guards surrounded us from both sides of the corridor. Weapons drawn. Dozens of them.

"Surround them," the leader said.

I slowly raised my hands. Gunnar stood beside me, his eyes now glowing red, yellow, green, I can’t even tell the colors because right now I pitied this men in front of me.

The guards stared at us suspiciously. "Who are you?" one of them asked.

I forced a calm expression and whispered to Gunnar "Please don’t do anything stupid, and let me take them myself, you must never engage in any form violence Gunnar"
