Chapter 242: Chapter 242

Gunnar’s POV

By the time I returned to my chamber, my entire body already felt exhausted.

The heat of everything burned through my veins even after everything that happened earlier, but right now I couldn’t afford to rest. Too many things were happening at once and every single one of them could destroy the pack if we handled it wrongly.

I stood near the window waiting while one of the guards went to call Cane and Caden.

My mind stayed on Riley the entire time.

The image of her lying unconscious on Leslie’s bed refused to leave my head. Her body had looked so weak when I carried her there, nothing like the stubborn woman who constantly argued with us and fought back no matter how difficult things became.

I clenched my jaw tightly.

Three days.

That was all we had before the Blood Moon ceremony.

Three days before Sebastian officially stepped down.

Three days before Obsidian Veil changed completely.

And somehow in the middle of all that chaos, we also had to protect Riley and make sure she survived.

A knock finally came against the door before it opened.

Cane walked in first and Caden followed behind him quietly.

The moment both of them stepped into the room, they immediately noticed my expression.

Cane frowned slightly. "What happened?"

I motioned toward the chairs. "Sit first."

Neither of them argued.

They both sat down across from me while I remained standing for a few seconds before finally lowering myself into the chair opposite them.

The room became quiet immediately.

Then Cane spoke again."Where’s Riley?"

"With Leslie."

Caden’s brows furrowed slightly. "How bad is it?"

I exhaled slowly before answering. "Carian almost drained her life force completely."

Both their expressions darkened instantly.

"What?" Cane snapped immediately.

I nodded once. "If Summer hadn’t forced Carian back..."

I stopped talking there because honestly I didn’t even want to think about what could’ve happened.

Cane leaned back slightly and rubbed his jaw. "How’s Summer?"

"Tired," I answered quietly. "But stable."

That seemed to calm them slightly. Then I finally told them everything Leslie said.

Neither of them interrupted while I explained.

I told them about Riley’s weakened condition. I told them how long Leslie believed she would remain unconscious.

And finally, I told them what Leslie suggested.

The room became silent after I finished speaking.

Cane leaned forward slightly in his chair while staring at the floor.

"So Leslie thinks claiming Riley during the Blood Moon will stabilize her?"

"Yeah."

Caden stayed quiet for a few seconds before speaking.

"That actually makes sense though."

Cane looked up at him immediately. "How?"

"The Blood Moon strengthens Alpha mate bonds," Caden answered calmly. "If the bond becomes complete between all four of us, then Riley’s body would draw strength directly from us."

I nodded slightly."That’s exactly what Leslie said."

Cane leaned back in his chair and sighed heavily.

Then his expression slowly darkened again. "The problem is timing."

I looked at him carefully.

Cane continued. "The Blood Moon ceremony is also the same night Sebastian officially steps down."

His jaw tightened. "The entire pack will already be in chaos that day."

He stood up from his chair and started pacing slowly across the room.

"We’ll be taking direct control over Obsidian Veil publicly for the first time."

His eyes moved toward me. "You know what that means."

I did.

Every enemy Sebastian ever made. Every rival Alpha watching our pack. Every traitor waiting for sign of weakness.

They would all be paying attention that night.

Caden crossed his arms quietly. "The ceremony alone will already stretch security thin."

"Exactly," Cane answered immediately. "And now we also need to protect Riley during the claiming."

He looked frustrated now. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"If anyone realizes Riley is weakened, she becomes an easy target."

I rubbed my face tiredly."She’s already vulnerable."

"That’s the problem," Cane snapped. "We can’t afford distractions during the Blood Moon."

The room became quiet again.

Then Caden finally spoke. "We split responsibilities."

Cane looked at him. "How do you mean?"

Caden leaned forward slightly.

"We already know the Blood Moon ceremony will draw everyone’s attention toward Sebastian stepping down."

He looked toward me and continued.

"That means nobody will expect us to complete the mate claiming at the same time."

I frowned slightly. "You want us to do both secretly?"

Caden nodded once. "It’s safer."

Cane immediately disagreed. "No."

Both of us looked at him.

"If we claim Riley secretly and people find out later, it’ll create problems inside the pack."

His expression hardened. "She’s our mate."

"She’s the future Luna."

"We cannot hide that."

I leaned back quietly while listening.

Cane continued pacing slowly. "If we do this, then we do it openly."

Caden frowned slightly. "That also creates danger."

"I know."

Cane stopped walking and looked directly at both of us.

"But hiding Riley will only make her look weak."

His voice lowered slightly. "And right now the pack needs to see strength to believe in her."

The room went silent again. Honestly, both of them were right.

No matter which option we chose, danger followed it.

The Blood Moon ceremony was already risky enough.

Adding Riley’s claiming into it only made everything more complicated.

I looked toward Cane again. "What about security?"

"We double the guards," he answered immediately. "No outsiders allowed near the ceremonial grounds."

Caden nodded slightly. "We should also move Riley before the ceremony begins."

I frowned."Move her where?"

"Our private chambers," Caden answered. "Somewhere easier to protect."

Cane crossed his arms now. "And Sebastian?"

The room immediately became tense again after his name entered the conversation.

Caden’s expression darkened slightly. "The elders already accepted the impeachment right?"

"Yes," Cane answered coldly. "But Sebastian won’t go down quietly."

I already knew that too. Sebastian would definitely try something before the Blood Moon arrived.

Especially now that he knew he was losing power publicly.

I looked toward Cane again. "Did he say anything else before you locked him up?"

"I recall him shouting while the guards dragged him away." He paused "I remembered the hatred in his voice."

Then he added quietly. "He said the pack would burn before he lets us rule it."

Caden scoffed softly. "He’s desperate."

"He’s dangerous," Cane corrected immediately.

Then suddenly the door opened.

No knock. No warning.

The force of it made all three of us look toward the entrance immediately.

Cane’s expression instantly darkened.

He was already about to snap at whoever dared enter without permission-

Then the figure stepped fully into the room.

And all three of us froze.

Because standing there weakly by the doorway was Riley.

Our eyes widened immediately.

"Riley?"
