Chapter 240: Chapter 240

Gunnar’s POV

The moment the lights went out, the entire room dropped into complete darkness.

For one second, nobody spoke.

Then the air suddenly changed. The temperature dropped so fast that my skin tightened instantly.

A loud rushing sound filled the room like heavy wind forcing itself through the walls. The curtains snapped violently upward and the windows began shaking hard against their frames.

"Summer!" I shouted immediately, pushing myself off the bed.

Before I could move another step, a violent force slammed through the room.

The entire floor shook beneath us.

A loud crack echoed from one side of the chamber as part of the wall split open slightly. Dust poured from the ceiling while shelves crashed over one after another. Glass shattered loudly across the floor.

My balance almost gave out immediately because of the poison already weakening my body.

"Summer stop!" Carian screamed through the darkness.

A sharp flash of lightning suddenly lit up the room for one second.

And in that second, I saw them.

Summer stood in the middle of the room with both hands stretched forward, her hair blowing wildly around her face while Carian stood several feet away resisting whatever force was pulling against her body.

The lightning disappeared immediately after as darkness swallowed the room again.

But just then another violent tremor shook the ground beneath us.

The bed behind me scraped hard across the floor on its own before slamming into the wall loudly.

My breathing became heavier instantly. Not from fear. From the pressure.

The energy filling the room felt crushing.

It pressed against my chest so hard that even breathing became difficult. I could feel it draining strength from my body little by little, pulling at my energy like something alive.

Across the room, I heard my mother struggling too.

I turned slightly and barely made out her figure holding tightly onto the doorway to stop herself from getting thrown across the room.

"Gunnar!" she shouted over the chaos.

Another loud crack split through the chamber.

This time one of the windows exploded completely inward.

Cold wind rushed inside violently.

Then Summer’s voice suddenly rose above everything else.

"Esvira nox venari... thalos en veyrah... spirita lumen arca!"

The words sounded ancient and sharp coming from her mouth.

Wtf?! When the hell did she learn spells?!

The force inside the room immediately multiplied. The floor beneath my feet cracked loudly as the walls trembled harder.

A table suddenly lifted off the ground before smashing against the opposite wall.

"GO BACK MOM!" Summer screamed.

Carian’s voice came immediately after."No!"

Another flash of lightning burst across the room.

This time I saw Carian more clearly.

Her robe whipped violently around her body while dark energy twisted around her hands. Her face looked terrified now.

Not angry.

Terrified.

"Summer stop this!" she cried desperately. "I don’t want to hurt you!"

"No, you’re going back today!" Summer shouted back.

The ground shook so violently this time that I dropped to one knee briefly before forcing myself back up again.

"You don’t belong here anymore!"

"I belong with you!"

"No!"

Summer’s voice cracked badly. "You’re disrupting everything!"

Another loud bang echoed through the room as part of the ceiling broke apart and crashed onto the floor beside me.

Dust filled the air instantly.

I coughed hard and tried moving closer toward Summer, but another blast of force pushed against my chest and forced me back again.

"Summer!" I shouted.

She didn’t even look at me. Her entire focus stayed on Carian.

"Release Riley!" Summer yelled.

The moment Riley’s name entered the room, Carian’s expression changed instantly.

Her eyes darkened. Then slowly, a terrifying smile spread across her face.

"Well," she said quietly through the chaos, "if I must go back..."

Another violent gust exploded around the room.

"...then Riley is coming with me."

Summer froze. Even through the darkness, I saw the shock on her face.

"No you can’t do that."

Carian lifted her hands slowly. "You can’t stop me."

"I won’t let you hurt her!" Summer’s voice came out louder this time.

Another wave of energy burst from her body and slammed across the room.

The walls shook again. But Carian suddenly raised one hand sharply. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"Then Mommy is going to hurt you now," she said brokenly. "I’m sorry, baby... but I have to do this."

The moment she finished speaking, dark energy exploded from her hands.

It slammed directly into Summer.

Summer’s body flew backward instantly and crashed hard across the floor.

"SUMMER!"

I rushed toward her immediately despite the pain ripping through my body.

But before I could even reach her- She pushed herself back up.

Blood stained the corner of her mouth now, but her eyes stayed fixed on Carian.

Then she lifted both hands again. And another blast shot toward Carian so violently that the windows shattered completely this time.

"Blood begets blood," Summer chanted shakily.

The air around her twisted harder. "Spirit begets spirit."

Another crack split through the floor.

"Life begets life."

Her voice grew louder. "You are dead."

Carian staggered backward slightly.

"Separate from the living..."

Summer’s eyes glowed brighter suddenly. "...and GO!"

The force that burst from her body this time shook the entire chamber so hard that Amelia lost her grip on the doorway and slammed against the wall.

I barely managed to stay standing.

Carian screamed angrily and forced herself against the attack.

"I’M YOUR FUCKING MOTHER, SUMMER!"

Summer’s face twisted painfully.

"My mother is dead," she shouted back through tears. "Go back!"

Carian looked completely shattered hearing that.

Then suddenly she screamed again and released another violent wave toward Summer.

The impact blasted across the room. Summer cried out as the force hit her directly, but she stayed standing somehow.

Her small body trembled badly now.

"Stop this!" Carian begged desperately. "Please!"

"You have to leave!"

"If you do this," Carian shouted through tears, "you’ll never see me again!"

That made Summer pause. The room became quieter for one second. The walls still trembling slightly.

The wind still blowed through the broken windows.

But Summer hesitated.

I saw it clearly.

Carian stepped toward her slowly.

"That’s right," she whispered desperately. "Come to Mommy."

Summer’s lips trembled badly. Tears rolled down her cheeks nonstop now.

Then softly, almost brokenly, she whispered- "I know."

Carian froze as Summer wiped her face quickly with shaking hands.

"I know I won’t see you again."

Her voice cracked harder now. "But I still have Aunt Riley."

Carian stared at her silently.

"She looks like you."

Summer swallowed hard. "And she’s much kinder than you, Mommy."

The words hit Carian so hard that she physically stumbled backward.

Then Summer lifted her hands one final time. "LEAVE!"

A brutal force exploded through the room instantly as the walls cracked wider.

Furniture shattered apart completely. The pressure became so strong that my knees nearly gave out.

And then-

Blood suddenly poured out from Summer’s nose as Carian said "Then I’ll take you with me"
