Chapter 231: Chapter 231

Caden’s POV

"I know Summer isn’t mine."

The words hit the room so hard that for a second I genuinely forgot how to breathe.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

I just stood there staring at Gunnar like I had heard the wrong thing.

My hands twitched slightly at my sides while my mind tried to catch up with what he had just said.

Summer wasn’t his?

No.

That didn’t even make sense.

I looked at Carian immediately.

Her face had gone completely pale.

Then something clicked inside my head so suddenly it almost made me dizzy.

The secret.

The thing Cane refused to tell me the other day.

The thing he claimed he would rather take to his grave.

My eyes snapped toward him instantly.

He stood frozen near the wall, his fists clenched tightly at his sides while Gunnar looked directly at him.

No.

No fucking way.

That wasn’t possible. That couldn’t actually be what this was about.

The room felt suffocatingly quiet now.

Then Gunnar spoke again.

"The day you performed that spell on me, it worked," he said calmly while looking at Carian. "I won’t deny that."

Carian swallowed hard.

"But I wasn’t the first person you slept with before the spell, was I?"

Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out.

My heartbeat started speeding up immediately.

What the hell was happening?

Gunnar kept staring at her.

"If you’re truthful enough for once, Carian," he continued slowly, "you would admit Summer isn’t the product of you and I."

He paused. Then turned toward Cane. "She’s the product of you and him."

My entire body went rigid.

"What?!" I barked out loudly.

Every head turned toward me instantly, but I didn’t care anymore.

"No," I snapped, shaking my head. "No, no, no. Someone better explain what the fuck is going on right now."

Nobody answered immediately.

I looked between Gunnar and Cane in disbelief.

"This doesn’t make sense," I continued angrily. "You slept with Carian for seven fucking days, Gunnar. Everybody knows that. So how the hell are you suddenly saying Summer isn’t yours?"

Gunnar looked at me calmly. Too fucking calmly.

"Yes," he replied. "I slept with Carian for seven days. I won’t deny it."

"Then how-"

"But I wasn’t the one who got her pregnant."

The room went silent again.

Gunnar stepped closer slowly while speaking.

"She was already pregnant before the spell happened."

Carian shut her eyes tightly.

"She was fourteen days pregnant already," Gunnar added.

I looked at Cane again immediately.

His face looked dark now. Angry. Tense. But he still wasn’t denying anything.

That made my stomach tighten badly.

No.

No fucking way.

Gunnar continued talking.

"She drugged Cane through one of the servants," he said plainly. "Mixed something into his food."

Cane finally looked away.

That alone answered enough for me.

Holy shit.

"You’re lying," I muttered immediately, though honestly I wasn’t even sure who I was trying to convince anymore.

"I wish I was," Gunnar replied.

Carian finally spoke then."Gunnar-"

"No," he cut her off sharply. "You’ve lied enough."

Tears gathered in her eyes instantly.

"You don’t understand-"

"I understand perfectly," Gunnar snapped. "You drugged my brother because you were obsessed with him as well"

Carian shook her head repeatedly. " No, I loved you!"

"No," Gunnar replied coldly. "You wanted to satisfy your own desires and I was a bit unreachable so you chased me harder."

Her breathing became uneven now.

"You wanted someone tied to you so badly that you didn’t care who you destroyed to get it."

"Stop," she whispered.

But Gunnar didn’t stop.

"You slept with Cane first," he continued. "Then when you found out you were pregnant, you used the spell on me because you knew nobody would question the child if everyone believed I was obsessed with you."

The room felt dead silent again after that. freewebnσvel.cѳm

I looked at Cane carefully.

He still hadn’t spoken. Not once.

And honestly, the fact he stayed quiet was beginning to confirm everything.

My chest felt tight now.

Because suddenly pieces were falling together in the worst possible way.

Cane always hated Carian more than the rest of us.

Not ordinary dislike.

Hatred. Real hatred.

And now I finally understood why.

He blamed her for this.

For Summer.

For everything.

Gunnar looked toward me then.

"And I must say," he said quietly, "Carian wasn’t only obsessed with me."

My brows furrowed as he held my gaze directly.

"She was obsessed with all of us."

A bad feeling immediately settled in my stomach.

Then Gunnar asked the question.

"Didn’t you sleep with her too, Caden?"

The moment those words left his mouth, my throat went dry instantly.

My mouth opened slightly, but no sound came out.

Because the memories had already started coming back.

That day. That fucking day.

I swallowed hard immediately.

And judging from the way Cane slowly turned toward me now, he already knew from my face alone that Gunnar had just hit the truth.

"You did what?"
