Chapter 178: Chapter 178
Ethan’s POV
The moment I saw her, my brain completely stalled. For a minute, I actually thought I was imagining things.
Because there was no way.
No actual way.
My eyes widened as I stared straight at her, trying to make sense of what I was seeing.
"What... the hell..." I muttered under my breath, then louder, "No. No, that’s not possible. How the hell are you here?"
My body reacted. I tried to push myself up, trying to stand, trying to move toward her, but the chains yanked me back hard.
The sudden pull sent a sharp pain through my already injured body, and I couldn’t stop the wince that came with it. My ribs screamed in protest, my shoulders burned, and I felt fresh blood shift where the cuts were still open.
I forced myself to stay upright anyway.
Because she was standing right there.
Daphne.
Standing calm and collected.
And the moment her eyes landed on me, she smiled.
Not a normal smile. It was mischievous.
Like she had just walked into a situation she had been waiting for.
"How the hell are you here?" I asked again, my voice sharper now. "And don’t even try to act like this is normal. You were in Obsidian Veil. How did you get out?"
She didn’t answer me. Not even a glance.
She just walked further into the room like I wasn’t even worth her attention.
That alone irritated me more than anything else.
Instead, she turned to Wendy.
Wendy hadn’t moved.
She was still staring at her like she wasn’t sure if this was real or not.
"How are you here, Daphne?" Wendy asked, her voice controlled but clearly tense.
Daphne tilted her head slightly and smiled again, softer this time but still carrying that same energy.
"What?" she said lightly. "You’re not happy to see me?"
Wendy let out a short breath and then forced a small smile.
"Of course I am," she said. "It’s just... unexpected."
There was a brief silence after that.
Like both of them were thinking about things they weren’t saying out loud.
I looked between them, trying to figure out what the hell was going on, but before I could say anything again, Daphne spoke.
"I didn’t come here for a reunion," she said.
Her tone changed completely, it was serious.
Focused.
"I came here because I need something," she added.
Wendy’s expression shifted slightly.
"What kind of something?" she asked.
Daphne didn’t hesitate.
"I want us to work together," she said. "All of us."
I frowned.
"All of us?" I repeated.
She finally glanced at me for a second, then looked back at Wendy.
"I want your help to bring down my brothers."
The room went silent. Completely silent.
For a second, I thought I heard that wrong.
But I didn’t.
"You want to what?" I said, my voice rising slightly despite everything.
But Wendy didn’t react the same way I did.
She just stood there. Looking at Daphne like she already knew this was coming.
That alone made something click in my head.
"Wait," I said slowly, looking between both of them. "You already knew about this?"
Wendy didn’t answer.
Daphne just kept talking.
"You want to eliminate your brothers?" I said again, this time more direct. "You mean Gunnar, Cane, and Caden? I thought you all were—"
"We weren’t anything," she cut in sharply. freewebnøvel.com
Her voice snapped through the room, stopping me immediately.
"If you must know," she continued, her eyes dark now, "I hate them more than anything or anyone in this entire life."
That made me pause. Because that didn’t sound like simple anger.
That sounded deeper. More personal.
"What the hell is going on?" I muttered, more to myself than anyone else.
Daphne didn’t bother explaining everything right away.
Instead, she turned fully to Wendy.
"I need you," she said directly. "It’s been a long time since we last saw each other."
Wendy’s jaw tightened slightly.
"After the last incident," Daphne added.
That word alone was enough to tell me there was history here.
Real history.
And I didn’t know exactly what she was referring to.
But I stayed quiet.
I wanted to hear how far she would go.
"You’re the only one who can get close enough," Daphne continued. "Close enough to deal with a pest for me."
Wendy crossed her arms slightly, her expression now more guarded.
"First of all," she said, "why are you even here? You haven’t answered that yet."
And then she dropped it heavily "Sapphire is dead."
"What?" both Wendy and I said at the same time.
The words came out before I could even think.
That didn’t make sense.
That was not possible.
"That’s not possible," Wendy said immediately, shaking her head. "No. That doesn’t just happen."
"It already did," Daphne replied calmly.
"How?" I asked.
Her eyes flicked to me briefly."Gunnar killed her," she said. "She tried to poison his child."
I froze.
For a second, I just stared at her.
"He didn’t even hesitate," she added.
That part... I believed.
Gunnar wasn’t the type to hesitate when it came to things like that.
Still...
Everything about this felt off.
"So let me understand this properly," I said, forcing my thoughts into something clear. "You want to kill your half-brothers because of Sapphire?"
She nodded once.
"That’s it?" I asked. "That’s your reason?"
Her expression changed instantly and the calm disappeared.
"Did you say Just?" she asked, her voice low and dangerous.
"I said," I repeated, "you’re planning to murder your own brothers over that sounds like a petty excuse. There has to be more to it."
She laughed. Almost unhinged.
"Petty?" she repeated, stepping closer. "You think that’s petty?"
I continued.
"Yes," I said. "Because it doesn’t make sense otherwise."
Her eyes locked onto mine, and this time there was no control in them.
"It is not petty!" she snapped, her voice rising. "It can never be petty!"
The room felt different instantly. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"I loved her," she said, each word clear and sharp. "And until I get my revenge, I will not rest. Not for you. Not for anyone because I freaking loved her and she was taken from me!."
I stared at her, trying to process her words.
Because something about that didn’t add up and then it hit me.
"Sapphire..." I said slowly. "Was your lover?"
She didn’t hesitate."Yes."
That answer landed harder than any of the hits I had taken earlier.
"How?" I asked, genuinely confused now. "That doesn’t make any sense."
Daphne’s gaze shifted slowly to Wendy and Wendy looked away immediately.
That alone said enough.
Daphne smiled again, but this time it was cold.
"Sapphire became my lover," she said, her voice steady, "after your stepsister here decided to dumped me years back."
