Chapter 100: Chapter 100

Cane’s POV

"Daphne," I called again.

My voice echoed through the empty corridor and I waited for a response but instead of the person I expected, someone else stepped out from the corner.

It was Sapphire.

She walked out slowly like she had all the time in the world and the moment she saw me standing there she smiled like she had just found something entertaining.

My jaw tightened instantly.

Of all the people to see right now, this woman was the last one I wanted.

She walked closer with slow steps and then her eyes scanned my appearance. My clothes were simple, my dagger was strapped to my waist and the hooded cloak I had thrown on earlier was already hanging behind my shoulders.

She looked at all of it carefully. Then she raised one brow.

"Going somewhere?" she asked calmly.

I frowned immediately. The sight of her alone irritated me.

"I don’t answer to that question, Sapphire," I said coldly.

Her smile did not disappear.

Instead she tilted her head slightly like she was amused by my reaction.

But something else had already caught my attention.

I took a slow step closer to her and inhaled lightly.

Then my eyes narrowed."Why do you possess my sister’s scent?" I asked slowly.

Sapphire’s smile widened slightly.

She started walking toward me again with a smooth confident step like she owned the hallway.

The closer she came the stronger that scent became.

Daphne.

I knew my sister’s scent better than anyone.

And it was clearly on Sapphire.

My anger rose immediately.

Sapphire stopped right in front of me and raised her hand like she was about to touch my shoulder.

I moved faster.

My hand shot up and slapped hers away before she could even reach me.

She gasped in surprise.

"Don’t even think about touching me," I said in a low, dangerous voice.

Her eyes widened slightly but I could see the irritation in them.

I leaned closer and looked straight at her.

"You must think I’m like my brothers," I continued slowly. "But I’m not."

She stayed quiet.

"I am the least patient and the most hot tempered amongst Gunnar and Caden," I said firmly.

Her lips pressed together.

"They tolerate your presence?" I added coldly. "I can’t."

I watched her expression carefully."I hope that sinks deep into your memory," I said slowly.

Then I leaned even closer so my words were impossible to misunderstand.

"Because the next time you try to put your hands on me, I might snap your neck."

Silence filled the hallway. Sapphire stared at me like she was measuring my seriousness.

Then she slowly straightened her posture.

I turned away from her. I had wasted enough time already.

Summer was still lying unconscious in the healer’s room and every second mattered now.

I started walking away quickly.

But just as I reached the end of the hallway her voice came from behind me.

"I heard Summer was poisoned."

My steps stopped instantly. My shoulders stiffened and slowly I turned around.

Sapphire was still standing where I left her and she looked strangely calm.

"And it’s already been found who poisoned her," she added.

The moment those words left her mouth, something snapped inside me.

I walked toward her immediately.

Fast.

My fists were already clenched and my wolf instincts were pushing forward with anger.

But before I could reach her she raised her hand suddenly.

"Wait," she said quickly.

I stopped only a few steps away from her.

My breathing was heavy and my eyes were burning with rage.

"What did you say?" I demanded.

She looked at me with fake calmness.

"Currently," she continued slowly, "Caden is headed to your father."

My brows furrowed deeply."What are you talking about?"

"The pack might already be in uproar," she added softly.

My chest tightened."What happened?" I asked sharply.

She sighed dramatically like she was pained by the situation.

"It turned out that Summer had a meal with my husband earlier," she said.

My eyes widened slightly.

"And she ingested the poison from the food."

My mind went completely still for a moment."What?"

The word escaped my mouth before I could stop it.

Sapphire lowered her head slightly like she was saddened.

"I do not believe my husband Sebastian would ever do such a thing," she said quietly.

Her voice suddenly sounded emotional."He cannot possibly hurt that poor child."

I stared at her in disbelief.

"That is why I am going to see for myself," she continued.

My heart started beating harder."Wait," I said sharply.

She looked up.

"What did you just say?"

She blinked slowly."Which part?"

"Did you just say Summer had a meal with Sebastian?" I asked slowly.

She nodded."Yes."

My mind started racing. If Summer had eaten with Sebastian then the poison must have been placed in the food.

But why would Sebastian poison a child?

He was ruthless and cruel in many ways but harming a little girl like that made no sense.

Unless...

My thoughts jumped toward Gunnar.

If the poison wasn’t meant for Sebastian then Summer eating the food by accident could have caused it.

But if the pack believed Sebastian poisoned her...

Then Caden confronting him right now could easily turn violent.

My body reacted immediately.

I turned sharply and started walking toward the main hall.

I needed to see what was happening.

But then something stopped me.

A voice.

Not outside. But inside my head.

It was not someone speaking out loud.

It was my own instincts. And the words were clear.

[Head to the Tithers town first and get the antidote.]

My steps slowed.

[Do not let anything distract you.]

My fists clenched tightly.

[If you waste time now... she will die.]

I stopped walking completely. My chest rose and fell slowly as I forced myself to think clearly.

Caden could handle Sebastian.

If the pack was already involved then the situation was already out of my control.

But Summer...

She had less than seventy-two hours.

And I was the only one who could get the antidote.

I turned back slowly. Sapphire was still standing there watching me.

I looked at her coldly.

"I believe Caden will take care of it," I said firmly.

Then I turned away and walked off without another word.

Summer’s life was more important than anything else right now.

Nothing could come before that.

Not even whatever chaos was happening in the pack hall.

I moved quickly through the corridors and finally stepped outside the main chambers.

The cool air hit my face immediately. I pulled my hood up and covered most of my head.

Then I started running. Fast.

I did not want to shift yet.

Running in wolf form would be faster but it would also draw attention if anyone saw me leaving the damn pack.

For now I stayed in human form and moved through the forest paths quickly.

My mind kept replaying everything Leslie had told me.

Blood Tithers town.

The marsh.

The herb.

Seventy-two hours.

I pushed my legs harder.

I ran for a long time before the outer gates of Obsidian Veil finally appeared ahead.

The guards noticed me but they did not stop me.

They only nodded slightly when they recognized me.

Within seconds I crossed the gates and left the pack territory behind.

I slowed down slightly once I was outside.

Now I was far enough from the pack to shift.

If I ran in wolf form from here I could reach Blood Tithers territory much faster.

I stepped deeper into the forest and prepared to shift.

But just as I was about to move, a voice suddenly spoke behind me.

"I see you are leaving in a hurry." fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

I turned immediately. My eyes scanned the trees.

Then a figure stepped out from behind one of them.

It was him.

That man.

The one we had encountered the last time we entered Tithers town to rescue Riley.

My eyes narrowed slightly."Bane?," I called slowly.

Or whatever his real name was.

He walked closer calmly like he had been expecting me.

I had no idea how long he had been standing there.

He stopped a few steps away and bowed slightly."I will accompany you on your journey," he said.

I stared at him."What?"

His face remained calm."I know where you are going."

My eyes narrowed further."Are you okay?"

He nodded."Yes."

I crossed my arms slowly.

"And how exactly do you know that?" I asked.

He looked directly at me.

"You are going to Tithers town to get the antidote for the child who was poisoned."

My heart skipped slightly."How the hell do you know that?" I demanded.

Bane did not look surprised by my reaction.

Instead he gave a small smile."I am familiar with the situation."

"That doesn’t answer my question," I said sharply.

He looked at me carefully."I heard about it."

My eyes widened slightly.nI stared at him silently for several seconds.

But right now I did not have time to investigate that.

Bane suddenly stepped closer."Let us forget the formalities," he said.

My eyes followed his movements.

"We should go," he continued. "Time is important."

I remained silent. Then he spoke again.

"And I know exactly where the herb you need is located."

My head lifted instantly."Wait, What?"

He nodded." I do."

I took a step closer."What herb is it exactly?" I asked.

Bane looked straight at me.

His voice was calm when he answered."It is called the Silvarin Leaf."
