Chapter 299: Invasion (18)

Though we agreed that we needed to stop them from weakening our defenses like this, it wasn’t as if we knew how to stop it.

From the looks on the faces of the captains, it seemed that this was something that all of the captains had agreed to.

Since this was a mission that had the approval of all the captains, it seemed that there had to be something that was hidden from the others that riled them up like this.

So to try and stop this really didn’t seem likely.

It had to be something bigger than this that would be able to stop them from sending the troops.

"What if we tell them about the Abyss Demons underground?"

Yun Tian said this after a long silence and there was a difficult look on his face as he said this.

It was clear that this was a desperate suggestion since he couldn’t think of anything else to suggest. It wasn’t the best idea, it was just an idea that was considered a last ditch effort since they really didn’t know what to do. freёwebnoѵel.com

After thinking about it, I slowly shook my head and said, "No, there’s no point."

There was a look of dismay that appeared on Yun Tian’s face, but his eyes showed that he understood that I was right. After all, it wasn’t as if we had a close relationship with any of the captains in the first place.

Even if they were willing to listen to us because of what we did before, it wasn’t as if they would listen to us this time.

There was more happening under the surface that we didn’t know anything about, so it wasn’t as if we would be able to change anything. This was something that Yun Tian was very much well aware of.

That was why Yun Tian asked with a frustrated look on his face, "What do we do then?"

I didn’t respond since I didn’t think of anything at first.

Or it was better to say that I did think of something, but I didn’t say it out loud because it seemed dangerous.

Unless there was no other choice, this wasn’t something that I actually wanted to do.

But it really seemed like there was no other choice.

If this wasn’t done, then it would be the end of all of us.

So with a sigh, I said, "Let’s volunteer."

As soon as I said this, all of them looked at me as if they thought I was crazy.

However, this was the conclusion that I had come to after carefully thinking things through. It was also why I had the perfect explanation for them when they looked at me like this.

"I know that this sounds like we’re running away, but we’re not."

Yun Tian’s group narrowed their eyes when they heard this.

This was the main reason that they had been unhappy with what I said since it really seemed like I was running away from this camp to ensure that we didn’t get caught up in the ambush.

"We’re the only ones that can combat the Abyss Demons, especially when they hide themselves like this. If we’re raiding a camp, don’t you think that it would be best if we went along to help them?"

This was something that they couldn’t deny, but it did feel like there was something off about this.

"The sooner that we finish clearing out the camp, the sooner that we’ll be able to come back and protect the main camp."

Everything that I was saying sounded like it was a good idea, but Yun Tian’s group looked like they felt that there was something off about it. It was as if there was something that I wasn’t telling them.

What I was keeping to myself was the faint suspicion that there was a traitor among these captains.

For there to be a camp that appeared at such a time, it seemed like it was too much of a coincidence. This kind of report seemed like something that would be planted by someone with high enough position to convince the captains to move.

It was likely that it was even a captain that did this.

Which was why I couldn’t stop that slight suspicion from appearing.

Yun Tian’s group were veterans of the Abyss Guards and they were people that believed in the mission of protecting the human race.

If it was just for their own benefits, they believed that any of the captains could move. However, they didn’t think that someone that could become a captain in the Abyss Guards would betray the human race.

Which was what sending defenses away at a time like this would be.

After all, this would trigger the Abyss Demon’s invasion of the human race’s world.

Eventually, they agreed with what I said and we went to meet the captains in secret.

With the influence that we had with them, we were at least able to volunteer to go with the group clearing out this camp. In fact, it seemed like they were happy to send us along as if they wanted to do this all along.

It was as if they wanted us away from the camp.

It naturally wasn’t that they wanted to protect us, it was more like they were wary of us... fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Or it was better to say that they were wary of my power to detect the Abyss Demons since they kept bringing it up.

Though this wasn’t enough to believe that someone had betrayed the Abyss Guards, it did raise my suspicions even more since it really seemed like there was a traitor among them.

But at least, we had accomplished our goal of being assigned to the team.

From now on, it was getting closer and closer to the end game and we had to play this by ear.

All that mattered now was taking care of the Abyss Demons in this camp they were clearing as soon as possible.
