Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Reward Settlement
Mary pushed a wheelchair in front of the Moon Tower.
The giant, toppled statue of a god had not yet been cleared away, and fragments of white marble were scattered everywhere.
Green monster-boys were clearing away the debris while members of the Little Gangsters’ Gang helped search for survivors. The City Lord directed his subordinates in cleaning up the mess. The scene was surprisingly peaceful.
The biggest winner, a black market merchant, was outside hawking his wares. A parking lot full of new goods would earn him a hefty profit.
The reason these three factions, who should have been at each other’s throats on sight, could now sit down and work together was none other than one of the "Gods" dressed in blue work clothes.
This God, named Kim, had a bruised and battered face and was limping on one leg. It looked as if he had recently taken a severe beating.
That’s right. Mary was the one who did it.
Just one day prior, this God had appeared, carrying an unconscious Smith.
At the time, Mary had thought her father had been killed. In a fit of extreme rage, she had beaten Kim to a pulp for half an hour, nearly killing the God.
Although Kim later said it was fine, he couldn’t help but tremble involuntarily whenever he saw Mary. It was clear he had developed a severe traumatic response.
Now, upon seeing Mary appear, Kim still trembled but managed to summon his courage. He walked over to the person in the wheelchair and said, "Mr. Smith, are you feeling any better?"
Smith looked at the man before him with a blank expression and asked in confusion, "Who are you? Have we met? Also, where’s my wife? Why did I wake up from a nap and suddenly I’m an old man?"
"You really don’t remember anything? Have you also forgotten about the mysterious Eastern Qi Gong?"
"I have been to the East, and I did learn Qi Gong, but is what you’re talking about really the same thing I learned?"
Sighing, Kim said, "It’s all right. Just take care of yourself."
Straightening up, he looked at Mary with regret and said, "What a shame. It seems Mr. Smith really doesn’t remember anything. What about the other two old gentlemen?"
Mary shook her head as well. "No good. Although they’re back to normal, they don’t remember anything that happened before."
With a wry smile, Mary said, "I’m starting to wonder if the father I have today is the same person as the father I had yesterday. Then again, perhaps it was some small miracle that caused an anomaly, making him behave in a way he never has before."
"So what on earth are you two talking about?" Smith asked from his wheelchair, confused.
Kim picked up a small scanner that looked like a temperature gun, aimed it at Smith’s head, and said, "The blood clot in his brain has disappeared. The problem he had with forgetting things every day shouldn’t happen again. Of course, to be on the safe side, it would be best to bring the three elderly gentlemen to the company for a check-up. And speaking of the company, there’s something I need to say."
Taking off his hat, Kim looked up at the tall Mary and said solemnly, "I am very sorry. The company deceived you, using this place as its playground. On behalf of the Good Dream Company, I apologize for our past actions."
"You’ve explained it, but I still don’t fully understand the situation. But personally, I don’t forgive you."
"I understand," Kim said, lowering his head. "This is indeed something that’s hard to forgive. But no matter what, we will find a way to make amends."
After a pause, Kim extended a hand to Mary. "I know this is a bit brazen of me to ask, but your enemies are not us, but the other companies. Good Dream’s boss is dead, but the other companies are still out there. Sooner or later, they will notice the changes at Good Dream, and a vicious battle will follow. So, would you be willing to lend us your strength?"
Squinting at Kim, Mary finally took his hand. "Fine. Since Dad helped you, I’ll choose to trust his decision. But if you make a single wrong move, I will not hesitate to correct it."
"I hope that day never comes."
"So what are you two talking about?" Smith asked, frowning. "I feel like it has something to do with me, but I really can’t remember a thing."
"It’s okay, Dad."
Patting Smith’s shoulder, Mary said gently, "Your mission is complete. For now, just get some proper rest. The work ahead is ours to do now."
The morning sun rose, dyeing the world in a molten gold light. The younger generation took the torch from the old and began their rebellion against this false world.
The image faded. In a white room, three people began to applaud, all remarking that if they hadn’t been starring in it, the ’film’ would have actually been pretty decent.
And with the final scene over, it was time for the exciting rewards phase.
"Main Quest: End the Game (Completed).
After a thrilling dungeon exploration, your Level has increased to Level 5. Your Life Limit and Physical Limit have increased slightly.
Because this was Possession mode, you did not accumulate any attribute experience.
Dungeon Rating: Greatest Contribution (Highest Rating). Abyss Coin reward doubled. You have received one thousand Abyss Coins."
In Abyss, dungeon ratings are divided into five tiers. For each tier you go up, the Abyss Coin reward increases by 20% of the Level 1 base value, up to a maximum of double the reward.
However, the rewards for this dungeon really couldn’t compare to the last one. Even doubled, it was only a thousand coins.
But it had directly raised his Medical Skill to the Great Success level. In the future, he could pretend to be a doctor and play a naughty game of doctor with his childhood friend, Qing Mei.
Besides the experience and Game Coins, Duan Fei also discovered that the dungeon had awarded an extra small treasure chest.
"Not bad luck," the Little Fatty standing nearby said as he looked at Duan Fei’s rewards. "Your rating for this dungeon was definitely Level 4 or higher."
"Little Fatty, how do you know so much about this game?"
The Little Fatty scratched his head sheepishly. "To be honest, I make hacks."
"No wonder you know so much about computer tech! No wonder you asked me if I was hacking the moment you saw me! You’re the pot calling the kettle black!"
"Don’t make it sound so bad. I’m just a humble little programmer who profits from game exploits."
"Now that you put it that way, I understand."
As a bug hunter himself, Duan Fei suddenly felt a sense of kinship with the Little Fatty, and his affection for him increased by another 10 points.
’Congratulations, Little Fatty. Our affection level has reached 30. From now on, you’re my buddy.’
’I, Duan Fei, swear that I won’t sell you out unless absolutely necessary.’
After introducing his Profession, the Little Fatty continued, "I’ve done a lot of research on ’Abyss.’ After all, the game is only on version 0.07, but it has huge potential. Once it officially launches, getting tens of millions of players will be easy. Making a hack for it ahead of time could earn me a huge fortune. But the problem is, no matter how much I research, I can’t find a single exploit."
Duan Fei looked at the serious Little Fatty, glanced at his own Talent, and then gave the Little Fatty an expression that was both elegant and disdainful.
"Oh."
