Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Facts Speak Louder Than Words

"President Shen, I... I misunderstood Assistant Jiang just now..."

Pan Baoshun’s forced smile was more painful than a grimace. He scrambled to pull the dumbbell back.

But!

His hands seemed to be glued firmly to the dumbbell. No matter how hard he tried, it was no use. His face flushed red with panic.

"Director Pan, you’ve already committed. Why bother making excuses?"

Just then, Jiang Xinghai dropped his cigarette and instantly relaxed his fingers.

He had merely released a sliver of True Qi, binding Pan Baoshun’s hands firmly to the dumbbell.

CLANK! CLANK!

CRASH!

The next moment, the momentum sent Pan Baoshun, who was still trying to pull the dumbbell back, stumbling to the floor with a heavy thud.

"President Shen, as you instructed, I came to the security department to observe their work. But I never imagined I’d walk into a scene like this." Jiang Xinghai stepped to the side, gesturing toward the workout room.

Inside the workout room.

The air was still thick with the stench of smoke and alcohol.

And the mahjong table was especially conspicuous!

The scattered cigarette butts and liquor bottles on the floor were a disgusting sight.

When Shen Lingxue saw all this, her expression grew even colder, and she stumbled back a step.

"Sis, does the company even have a game room?" Shen Lingyin was also seething when she saw the scene.

"The company does have a game room," Shen Lingxue snapped, "but this is the security department’s gym!"

"President Shen, we know we were wrong."

"President Shen, we..."

Only then did the security guards truly realize their mistake. They hung their heads, wanting to defend themselves but rendered speechless.

The facts spoke for themselves.

What defense could they possibly offer?

"All of you joined the company when my father was in charge. At the time, not counting various benefits and bonuses, you were still making a monthly salary of six thousand. Correct?" Shen Lingxue’s anger gradually subsided as she walked into the gym, enduring the stench of smoke and alcohol.

The guards nodded one after another.

"Later, the entire company got a raise. You now make nine thousand a month, correct?" Shen Lingxue asked again, her expression impassive.

The guards nodded again.

"And you, Director Pan Baoshun, you’re on an annual salary of one hundred and eighty thousand, not including the year-end bonus. Am I mistaken?" Shen Lingxue walked over to some of the fitness equipment and looked back at Pan Baoshun.

Pan Baoshun, still slumped on the ground, silently nodded.

"It’s safe to say that the salaries the Shen Group pays you are in the top three for the entire security industry in Jizhou. You’re all aware of that, aren’t you?" Shen Lingxue said, enunciating each word as she scanned the guards.

Guilt was visible in the guards’ eyes as they continued to nod.

Shen Lingxue wiped her hand across the surface of a piece of fitness equipment and held it up, covered in dust. "You should know, the Shen Group isn’t even a publicly traded company, yet your monthly salaries surpass those at two-thirds of the companies that are. I can say with a clear conscience that we have done right by you."

"President Shen, we really know we were wrong."

"We’re sorry, President Shen. We didn’t appreciate how good we had it."

"Sigh... I’m such an asshole!"

A few of the guards began to slap their own faces, admitting their faults and apologizing.

Shen Lingxue’s words weren’t some string of pearls.

They were simply the unvarnished truth.

It left them too ashamed to face the Shen Group’s immense generosity and support—too ashamed to face the Shen Family!

"Now, I can give you one chance. This includes your colleagues who are not currently on duty."

"Either you resign now, and I will have HR and Finance process your paperwork and settle your final pay."

Shen Lingxue looked coldly at the guards. "Or, you can stay and do your jobs, on the condition that you pass an assessment to keep your post. Those who succeed will receive a 0.5 percent share of the year-end bonus. Those who fail, please leave. Your examiner will be Jiang Xinghai... the soon-to-be-appointed Minister Jiang, head of the Security Department."

She had no choice but to grant Jiang Xinghai another title.

Jiang Xinghai had no objections.

The guards were thrilled to hear this.

They really didn’t want to leave!

They would just have to pass the assessment!

And they would even get a 0.5 percent year-end bonus!

That was equivalent to more than half a year’s salary!

"As for you, Pan Baoshun," Shen Lingxue said, waving her hand dismissively, her face a mask, "I’m afraid our humble establishment is no longer a good fit for you. Find employment elsewhere."

’Pan Baoshun had actually tried to bash Jiang Xinghai’s head in. How could she tolerate that?’

"President Shen, I..." Of course, Pan Baoshun didn’t want to leave.

But with Jiang Xinghai glaring at him like a tiger stalking its prey, he didn’t dare say anything more.

"Please escort Mr. Pan out."

Jiang Xinghai suddenly turned to the bewildered guards.

The guards had no choice but to haul their former director, Pan Baoshun, out of the room.

"Jiang Xinghai, this is all your fault!"

As he was being hauled toward the lobby, Pan Baoshun roared in bitter resentment.

He seethed internally. ’I can’t just swallow this humiliation!’

’Fortunately, his cousin was a heavyweight in the criminal underworld!’

"It won’t be long! We’ll meet again very soon. Just you wait!" he roared again.

But Jiang Xinghai’s figure had already flickered and vanished from the spot.

’Letting a tiger go back to the mountain only invites future disaster.’

’And that wasn’t his style.’
