Chapter 703: Dao An’s Secret (3)

Cheng Xuan answered directly: "The boss has an appointment with someone and will be back in ten minutes."

This was what Dao An instructed Cheng Xuan to say before heading to the meeting room.

Before going to the meeting room, he had waited for more than twenty minutes and didn’t attend the meeting.

The meeting required his presence for a part of it, but since Gu Yuan was still on her way, Dao An instructed Cheng Xuan that he would return in ten minutes.

"Alright, I’ll wait for him in Ann’s office."

Jane tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and stepped into the office.

Cheng Xuan hurried to prepare the fruit tea that President Gu wanted.

...

Upon entering, Jane immediately saw Gu Yuan seated on the sofa.

She had an undeniably striking aura and a stunning appearance.

The past few days, the appearance of a certain actress had captivated Ann, usually so indifferent, causing Jane to be very jealous. That actress had an exceedingly sweet appearance, which shouldn’t have been Ann’s type according to her understanding. In Jane’s view, Ann should prefer a woman like her—talented, educated, beautiful, elegant, and intellectual.

She came over today intending to talk to Ann about this matter, to find out what exactly was going on between him and that actress.

Upon entering, yet another unrelated woman appeared.

Why unrelated? Because Jane often appeared with Ann in the same settings and frequently visited Dao An’s place, and she had never seen this woman among those faces.

At this moment, Gu Yuan sat on a black leather sofa, a book on her lap, casually flipping through it.

Upon hearing the slow clack of high heels, she looked sideways.

During the few seconds of eye contact with Jane, Gu Yuan instinctively recalled Dao An’s girlfriend, as mentioned by Sheng Yi.

Could it be her?

Jane walked in, stepping on her stiletto heels.

Gu Yuan set the book on her lap aside and slowly stood up: "Hello."

Jane approached and stood before Gu Yuan, extending her hand proactively: "Hello, I’m Jane."

Gu Yuan smiled: "Hello, Miss Jane."

Gu Yuan extended her hand to shake Jane’s, knowing that it was Dao An’s English name.

Jane asked, "Are you looking for Ann?"

When asked by the other, Gu Yuan nodded: "Yes, I am looking for Ann."

The handshake failed because Jane suddenly withdrew her hand, leaving Gu Yuan’s hand awkwardly suspended in mid-air.

"Sorry, I have to take a call." Jane withdrew her hand, avoiding Gu Yuan to answer the phone, not acknowledging Gu Yuan’s presence at all.

Gu Yuan was not embarrassed and calmly withdrew her hand from the air.

She sat down again, picked up the book she had before, expecting Dao An to return in a few minutes, waiting patiently.

Jane’s phone conversation lasted about half a minute, conducted in fluent English, with a brief exchange. She put her phone away and turned around, regarded Gu Yuan, who was sitting there composed, with an elegant smile on her face and apologetic words, but her demeanor was very high-handed.

Gu Yuan continued to casually flip through the book, without lifting her head, she casually asked: "Miss Jane, are you an investment officer?"

Jane’s expression revealed some surprise, but she didn’t ask how the other knew, guessing that perhaps some related words from her conversation had been overheard. She then generously and calmly introduced her profession.

She was a top talent, a graduate from an Ivy League school, and the most outstanding chief investment officer of a capital management company. In the capital market, she was well-known, and her name, Jane, on the famous Wall Street, would soon be recognized by everyone.

Jane believed that if this woman was an outsider, she probably would not know much about her, or perhaps she wouldn’t understand much of what she had just said.

In fact, Jane’s assumption was not inaccurate; the woman merely smiled faintly and didn’t pursue further discussion.

Indeed, she seemed to be an outsider.

Subsequently, Jane spoke of her experiences fighting alongside Ann, highlighting a merger case from the first half of the year, a case that almost shook all of Wall Street.

Gu Yuan was certainly aware of it, yet she still did not engage in the conversation, only responding with a mild smile.

To Jane, her smile suggested someone from outside the industry, unfamiliar and uninterested in investments.

At this moment, the office door opened, and a man strode in, his three-piece pinstriped suit now missing the jacket, likely left in the meeting room. The business vest enhanced his tall and handsome figure.

As the man entered, Gu Yuan remained still while Jane had already advanced: "Ann, is the meeting over?"
