Chapter 48: He’s more amazing than she thought.
Lucius looked at him. "What don’t you understand?" he asked.
"This," Jake said, showing him one of the questions. "A fossilized magical convergence tool emits sound waves inward, which ends up creating a ’Filling’ effect inside the rock surrounding it, causing you to experience what’s called a ’Convergence Explosion’ when you break the fossilization. Why?" he said, pointing to the answer.
Lucius tilted his head. "And what do you want me to say? I don’t understand your question."
"I mean, why is the answer to that theory ’...It creates sound waves inward before breaking the fossilization to prevent the explosion’? Why does that effect occur, or what makes you think that effect exists? As I understand it, the Convergence Explosion is caused by the cursed energy accumulated inside, not by sound waves."
Lucius nodded slightly. "Your understanding isn’t wrong, but we’re not trying to figure out what the Convergence Explosion is—we’re trying to figure out why it’s created."
Jake nodded. "Of course. Because of the cursed energy, right?"
Lucius shook his head with a smile. "No, it’s actually because of sound waves. Do you know what a convergence tool’s main function is?" he asked.
"Its main function is to allow the use of multiple tools at the same time and to share information between people. At least that’s the theory—I’ve never actually used one," the professor replied.
"Exactly. Now think about it: How does it share information between devices that aren’t physically connected? The tools can’t connect to The Link, but there must be a way to share that information, right?"
"...Radio waves?" he asked.
"Do humans have antennas to receive radio waves?" Lucius rolled his eyes...
Jake then realized his mistake. "Are they sound waves?" frёewebηovel.cѳm
"In fact, they are. That’s why convergence tools are so valuable, but at the same time, almost no one knows how to create them. Everyone wants one for training and learning, but no one would want to use one in battle because they’re easy to intercept."
"The depth of this theory lies in the creation of convergence tools capable of transmitting information via radio waves. Since these travel so fast, they’re impossible to intercept. But where would a human receive the information? Internal chips? Explosions happen, and they die. The system? We’d have to wait for an update..." Lucius shook his head, realizing he’d digressed a bit, and decided to get back to the main topic.
"What I mean is that the sound waves in the convergence tools remain active even when the tool itself has been almost completely destroyed and fossilized. Therefore, if you want to avoid death, you must counteract that Convergence Explosion with what creates it: sound waves."
Jake nodded... "I had no idea about that."
Lucius simply replied, "Few people know that." And he went back to grading exams.
Only Clara remained in the room, watching everything from a distance.
’He’s capable of teaching a renowned professor like Jake Lakeside about magical theory and tools...’ Clara couldn’t help but be impressed by the immense abilities this boy constantly demonstrated.
Who on earth was he?
Amid unanswered questions, Lucius and Jake finished grading the exams. They discussed a few more topics before going their separate ways.
On Monday, the training program Lucius had outlined would officially begin.
"What do you think of them?" Clara asked as she approached Lucius in the hallway.
"In theory, they’re fine. Some are better than others, and there’s one who stands out from the rest, but they all have a good theoretical foundation. It’s not unusual at all. Even in Rank F, when it comes to creating tools, they always have a solid theoretical foundation," he replied.
She nodded and asked, "Do you think they can translate that theoretical knowledge into practice?"
"It’ll be difficult, but with training, anything is possible. This weekend, I’ll teach you, step by step, what I’ll be teaching them. So come with me," said Lucius, and he began dragging Clara all over the academy and then throughout the city.
In the Iron Suburbs, he headed toward Old Kevin’s inn.
"An inn?" She was perplexed to see that they had arrived at an inn...
What was going on?
Her body trembled.
After Lucius knocked on the door, a man came out to greet them. He looked greasy, and his clothes were dirty.
"Young Master, it’s you." The man greeted him respectfully and then looked at Clara. "Is she...?"
"Clara Thorne," Lucius said as he entered the building. "She’s a friend from the academy. She’s a toolmaker." He introduced her to old Kevin.
Clara was nervous as she entered; she didn’t understand why Lucius would bring her to an inn, but when she saw what was on the other side of the door, she was even more stunned and confused.
There wasn’t an inn... rather, it was a huge workshop under construction.
"This..." She looked at another older man arriving and finally at Lucius.
He smiled at her. "These are Old Garen and Old Kevin. Kevin owns this place, and this is my personal workshop. I told you I’d teach you everything, right? We’ll start working in this workshop while we’re building it, and I’ll teach you the basics you need so you won’t be lost starting next week."
"This is Clara Thorne; she’s my classmate who I told you would be helping us."
Old Garen nodded. "Thorne... It’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone from that family. You can call me Old Garen."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Garen..." Clara was still confused, but she introduced herself.
The interior of the inn had already been partially demolished and was being rebuilt using special materials to create a huge workshop spanning two floors. There were many recently repaired tools and brand-new ones being used by the two old men as they worked on the repairs.
During the day, some hired workers would come by, but they’d left just an hour ago, so the place felt empty now that it was more spacious. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"You... have you been building your own workshop?" Clara asked, completely baffled.
Lucius laughed. "Of course. Do you think I’d invest so much in the academy if I didn’t have other motives? I’m not as heroic as those kids think I am."
She nodded... "So you want them to work for you."
She swallowed hard as she looked at Lucius’s impassive face, which confirmed her words.
’He’s always several steps ahead. He always tries to go a little further than the rest.’
She felt more and more that Lucius was simply too amazing, but that created a veil around him that made him feel farther and farther away.
’There will come a point when he won’t need me.’ It was a fleeting thought that crossed her mind...
